I was extremely impressed by this local theatre. The set was beautiful, the performers gave the audience a real show. There’s a bar with drinks of course and some snacks. The parking in Shirlington can be tricky on a nice evening, but there’s a convenient parking garage.

Google
I went to see Play On! It was fantastic! The staging, music, costumes, scenery, and fabulous cast were so enjoyable! The gracious staff helped me find my digital tickets. I had floor seating which gave me a comfortable view. The Parking was easy. It was a fun Sunday afternoon activity.

Google
I just saw the play Play On at the Signature theater in Shirlington VA It was fantastic. Everyone of the performers were professional and entertaining. The play was vibrant funny historical about Harlem and topical. Every act was well though out and eventful. The live music and singing and dancing was intoxicating and you wanted to jump up and join in the fun on stage. Don't miss this. It should be on Broadway or Kennedy center

Constanza Vergara

Google
The play in the heights was great, the theatre is small so you have a good view from every seat. They do not sell anything sweet, only cocktails and soft drinks at their cafeteria

Google
Came for Funny Thing. First time in dress circle upstairs, but we are mezzanine people. Singing was really good, very funny. Pseudolas was a woman and it was great to see the gender swap, it worked well. Erin was a very physical actor and they were clearly having fun trying to break one another. A great time Off Broadway once again. Are you not entertained? Yes we were.

Google
Very intimate theater. We came to see In the Heights. The set was immersive and puts you in the middle of all the action. There are snacks and drinks you can get before and during intermission. Parking is great as it's shared with a large grocery store.

Google
Great place to see an off Broadway show. Just saw plau On! and it was incredible. Will go again every time I am in the area.

Google
Great, great space and almost always great productions. I have removed one star (temporarily I hope) - I did not care for (the play) Job. I also was not pleased with how Signature handled missing cast members for HAIR last summer. ==> I am looking forward to In The Heights and Hedwig in 2025. While Signature is not perfect, the best Signature shows (esp. the ones for an established show - like HAIR or Cabaret), are great! Often you sit so close to the actors, if you stuck your legs out, you might trip them! Particularly if you are in one of the first two rows, it is very immersive (something you do NOT get at Kennedy Center). If you come early to eat at Ali's bar, you will see some of the cast members filing-in to the dressing room area! The cafe and bar have a light selection that changes for every show. You can order ahead for intermission. Lots of free parking; Harris Teeter market around the corner, drug store, and countless places to eat (including a great tapas place) nearby. I have seen many shows multiple times at Signature - and in all, probable about 50 different shows and 90 performances. The best of all time? Easy! CABARET - With TWO talented Broadway actors and a production that almost matched the Broadway cast recording of 1998, it was fantastic. If CHICAGO EVER stops playing on Broadway, I am sure Signature will present it with aplomb. Here's hoping Signature will do a production of Oklahoma! - as was done on Broadway in 2018/2019. Sunday, June 30 2024 was the first time (I have seen over 90 shows) a show (HAIR) was ever canceled. It was a particularly poor first experience for one group of four who had travelled an hour for the show. The show must (should) go on!!! Also disappointed that the final HAIR show did NOT have a really capable Claude; all other roles (including those filled by swings were fine); Understudies must be capable - be good actors AND LOOK THE PART! Signature insists on doing challenging and relatively new works, as well as established shows. That is the id of Signature. With free parking, first-rate acting and directing, close-in seating, this is a great, great institution.

Yelp
Wonderful experience all around. We got there pretty early, but with the cafe and the merch store, there was plenty to do. The theatre itself is intimate, but also feels very large, in terms of stage space. And ALL the production values for the show (set design, costumes, musicians, sound reinforcement, props) we first rate. They had a sign saying something like "The best place in the country to see musicals," and they weren't kidding! It was sort of a rock musical, and we felt the music AND were able to hear every word throughout. KUDOs all around.

Yelp
The Signature is my favorite theater in the DMV. The shows are excellent, parking is easily accessible, there's not a bad seat in the house, and tickets are affordable. A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum was excellent, such a fun show with a fabulously talented cast.

Yelp
I am SO impressed with Signature Theatre! I was lucky enough to see In the Heights and Hedwig and the Angry Inch here recently. The theater for In the Heights was so immersive- I loved the way all of the aisles were used and how there were signs recreating the neighborhood hung all around the theater. Hedwig was in a more intimate space that was just as immersive and cool, where we felt so close to the cast. It was one of the most fun shows I've ever seen, the performer playing Hedwig had so many hilarious riffs on local politics and occurrences and had such great audience interactions. For both shows, there wasn't a bad seat in the house. I was in the absolute last row and still felt like it was a great experience. The quality of the productions is fantastic and tickets are so reasonable- I also think it is such a nice touch that you can swap your seats for another night if tickets are still available!

Yelp
Always reliably good productions. We've enjoyed our subscription for several years. It also has a cafe for pre theatre dining or intermission chocolate chip cookies

Yelp
Saw Into the Woods and In The Heights here. The two best regional performances I have ever seen. The casts are just so amazingly talented. What stands out to me is how well they focus on the little details. Between costumes, scenic design, music, and acting, it is so clear how they all take the time to make little decisions to take the performance from good to great.

Andy S.

Yelp
This place is great I just watched the The Untitled Unauthorized Hunter S. Thompson Musical. As always the acting and choreography was on point. This is a great theater with excellent shows. There is also a bar in the lobby if you was to grab a meal and a drink before the show. This is one of my favorite theaters in the DMV.

Yelp
We went to see something funny happened on the way to the forum, a musical comedy today. The staff are very helpful and accommodating and friendly. The performance was excellent. This is a theater that has terrific seating and it's hard to have a bad seat in the house. We were off to the far right in an orchestra seat but still had a good view of the stage.

Yelp
TLDR: do not trust the theater to be responsible in age appropriateness recommendations--they'll sell "family tickets" to your 6-10 year old kid to see a half naked guy in a bondage suit whipping people, dry humping objects and other people, and mimicking fellatio on stage. Took my kids to see A Funny Thing Happened on the way to the Forum--what a mistake--and let me tell you, this is NOT appropriate for kids under 16yo! Shame on Signature theater for downplaying the level of raunchiness in the show. I understand this is one of Sondheim's more edgy musicals, but this play is on another level and should have been rated more like PG-14 or Mature Audiences. The play dialed up the raunchy level to 11 out of 10. Signature's ticket sale site offered "Family Tickets" for a 2PM performance and states kids must be at least 6years old--Family Tickets are to make it more affordable for families with children per the website. It's listed elsewhere (not at the screen for ticket sales that sexual innuendo is present and they recommend 10years old and above). We'll let's see if you think this is cool for a 10 year old: -There's more than a few S&M references--a man dressed in bondage leather suit cracking a whip, -two male twin prostitutes half naked sniffing each other's crotches; -at least 3 couples dry humping (Hero and Phillia repeatedly doing so), -a guy dry humping a marble column, -and suggesting he had ejaculated in his toga after trying to hide an erection -female lead pantomiming fellatio -most male characters overtly gesturing to their crotches or penises -guards vigorously stroking spears in a suggestive manner -bondage guy bending over and presenting rear end We had to leave an intermission and did not go back. Look, I know what this play is, but expected the jokes to go over my kids head. But the sexual innuendo was incessant. Selling family tickets to 6 year olds, for a day time show with just these instances in the first act is not cool. And the warnings in a completely Different location that show appropriate for age 10+ still not sufficient. The play was funny as hell for adults, and singing and acting, music, and sets were top notch. I'm not a prude or killjoy. But it's definitely NOT for kids and surprised/disappointed the Signature theater that I love did not do enough to warn parents.

Yelp
WOW wow wow. I love musicals and Wicked on Broadway has been my favorite since I saw it in 2006. But this performance of HAIR at Arlington's Signature Theatre just took the top spot for me! Sooo much talent on one stage. And I was lucky enough to see it from a front row center seat! Plus, what a fabulous venue. There really isn't a bad seat, because it's a small, cozy place. I was also happy to get snacks at decent prices. Their chocolate chip cookies and brownies were awesome! This was my first visit but it definitely won't be my last.

Yelp
Finally, Signature management has gotten the sound engineers to do what they should have been doing all along: Balance the singing loudness with the orchestra loudness so that we could actually hear/understand what the actors were singing! Soft Power, their latest fun production (Sept 2024) is absolutely worth seeing and had the best sound production values yet in that I could hear every word sung and also enjoy the orchestra. Comfortable seating in a very nice location. The building, tho, is starting to show its age (with understairs lighting that's starting to droop), but otherwise looks great.

Yelp
I couldn't recommend seeing a play at Signature Theatre enough! Firstly, parking was a breeze because there is a parking garage literally right next to the theatre with plenty of available spaces and an elevator that puts you out a short walk away from the theatre. Secondly, the themed meal and alcoholic beverage that was served at the bar before our play was EXCELLENT! Not only was it a nice touch that helped to immerse us in the entire experience, but it was affordable and tasted great too! Thirdly, the theatre where the play took place was intimate in the sense that you're so close that you can almost reach out and grab the actors (I wouldn't advise that). In our case, the seating map online for our play was very deceiving because it made the theatre look much bigger than it actually is. I can honestly say there is no bad seat in the house (at least for Sweeney Todd), and that a seat further back might actually be better so you can take in more of the play. Lastly, the staff and cast members were extremely friendly and personable. The bar staff was knowledgeable, and a leading cast member even did a meet-and-greet after the show and we got a picture with him. 10/10 experience and will definitely be going back for another show!

Yelp
I saw Disco Fever with some colleagues last night and it was crazy fun! The singers are AMAZING (both of them had incredible range and wow, that falsetto ) and the band were killing it, every musician was vibin' and clearly had a love for the genre. Yes, there were lots of people there who were reliving their disco days but IT WAS A FUN CROWD! I was pretty young when disco hit its stride but I have lots of nostalgia about this music being in my house during that time. If you are looking for a fun time singing and dancing to some amazing singers covering everything from The Bee Gees, Diana Ross, Gloria Gaynor, to Earth, Wind & Fire, you need to check this out! Don't forget your satin, sequins, platforms, and get ready to boogie!

Yelp
Signature is one of the foremost regional nonprofit theaters in the country, and is the world's preeminent producer of the works of Stephen Sondheim. The largest theater here has barely more than 250 seats (it varies by show), yet each season they produce large-scale plays and musicals, sometimes with 15-piece orchestras, in this incredibly intimate space. Such shows often attract both performers and audience members to travel to DC from New York and other parts of the country, and for good reason. Not only are the productions works class, but the whole experience is as well, with comfortable seats, free parking, and over a dozen restaurants within a few blocks' walk. Signature is unquestionably one of DC's treasures.

Dia H.

Yelp
The theater is nice, clean and the staff is friendly. Some really good shows there this year and the theater is just the right size. Every seat is a good seat.

Yelp
For a special treat for our 20th Wedding Anniversary, surprised my wife with coming here to see RENT. Really appreciate the COVID protocol here. You need to show proof of vax and mask-up the entire time. No problem from me. Seating was easy and ushers were on top of things. Theatre is small and was set up "in the round", you are right on top of all the action. The actors were incredible, really felt like NY Broadway, just on a smaller scale. Powerful vocals for this well done musical. Greatly told story about sad early day of AIDS. It's great not having to go to DC to see quality performances, will be back soon.

Maureen N.

Yelp
Omg! I have seen 2 productions here. Sweeney Todd and recently Hair. The plays are seriously Broadway quality in terms of lighting, sets, music, sound quality and of course the acting! There is not a bad seat in the house, free parking in the garage next door, and restaurants up and done the little street. HIGHLY Recommend!

Yelp
I saw No Place To Go at Signature Theatre for the local "Theater Week." The show was very good, but I'm not sure how much a venue's review should be about that. Signature Theatre turned out to be a great venue. The show I saw had a script that hardly pushed the limits of tech and crew abilities (it was a mostly one-man, with an onstage band, one-set show), but the set was nice, they used better lighting capabilities than many theaters have, and the sound (it was a musical) was very good. Every seat in the house had a perfect view. My wife and I got the last of the cheapest tickets they offered and, while near the edge of the last row, felt like we were right in front of the stage, and our view was straight-on and totally unobstructed. The staff were great. Friendly. Helpful. Professional but not uptight or snobby. They have a pretty respectable bar. In addition to a standard menu of drinks and snacks, they have a food and drink special for each show. I got the "red planet old fashioned," which was the cocktail special for the show we saw, while my wife got the special inspired by The Color Purple (the other show playing at the same time). Both were solid drinks. Both cocktails and a bottle of water came to $30... Not cheap, but not the biggest theater markup. Even though they were busy, the bathroom was very clean. They have a small but interesting gift shop where the prices are as low as you'll find for such a place. They currently require face masks when you're in the theater area, which might annoy some since it's been awhile since masks were widely required. They do as well with implementing that as a place can do. They don't require it until you enter the direct theater area... which makes some sense since you're generally not close to people until then but are in seats that are close together afterwards. They have masks to offer those who don't have them. They enforce the rule on everyone so that there's compliance but don't make the enforcement a distraction from the show. They still let people bring food and drinks in and are fine with people lowering their mask to take a sip or bite. Signature Theatre is also conveniently in Shirlington. Free or cheap street, lot, and garage parking are within a few blocks, as is a diverse range of good restaurant options, etc. It makes for a great dinner-and-a-show date night. I'm already planning my next visit to Signature Theatre.

Yelp
One of the best hidden gem theaters in the DMV! The shows are consistently broadway caliber, which makes their Regional Tony Award all the more understandable. The lobby is spacious and beautiful, and the staff are extremely friendly. Stop what you're doing and buy a season subscription!

Yelp
I absolutely love Sig Theatre. 1) They're local. Especially to me. It's nice getting home after a show in 10 minutes. 2) They have great shows. They have the big name shows that are crowd favorites, but it has also introduced me to very much lesser known shows that I've always enjoyed. 3) They have pretty stairs 4) I don't think I ever realized how cute their gift shop is. She Loves Me was also playing at my most recent visit and they had two themed She Loves Me shirts. 5) They have a legit bar and food menu. Shirlington has a whole list of pre-show dining options but I would recommend just grabbing a bite in the lobby and you wouldn't be disappointed. 6) They have TEACHER DISCOUNTS (ok that might be just helpful for me) but they also have rush tickets too. YAY AFFORDABLE THEATER FOR ALL!!! 7) Because my OCD makes me want to end my list on a happy number 7 and not 6.

Yelp
Despite previously living up the street from Signature for 2 years, I visited here for the first time this past Sunday on a solo trip to see RENT. Just a HUGE heads up in advance during these times, you must wear a mask throughout the entire show and in public spaces AND you have to show full proof of vaccination against COVID-19. Currently, it did not appear they have food or beverage options; however, there are an abundance of places nearby to stop in. I really appreciated the ticketing process online where you could choose your seat after viewing what the stage would look like from it. It is a VERY small theatre, so I would imagine nearly every seat would provide at least a decent view. It was interesting because I chose a $66 seat ($70 after fees), but for this show, I was seated practically in the action next to the pay phone (for the set) and had actors within a hands reach of me. I'm not sure how it was only $66 vs. the most expensive $108 but I'll take it! I didn't use the restroom on this visit, so I'm unable to comment there. The ushers were very friendly and helpful as were the ticket scanners and vaccine card checkers. I'd be happy to return to see another show here in the future!

Yelp
Beautiful, intimate theater. I was here recently for their Rent production. It was an amazing show with so many great singers. My friends and I sat at the top level and had a great time. You get an awesome view wherever you're sitting. The chairs could be a little more comfortable and they also need more bathrooms on the top level. Free garage parking. There are plenty of restaurants in the area, but they do get pretty busy so if you want to grab a bite to eat before your show, go early.
google avatar

Elvin M.

Yelp
Very nice local theater seats are close to the stage. They have a nice bar and they also serve and sell food. They would nit allow me to enter the theater with the drink i purchased but i noticed other guests enter with drinks. Also we were required to have our vaccines and show proof of vaccination but they required all the guests to wear masks which became uncomfortable after being in the theater for almost 2 hours.

Yelp
After seeing Signature's epic performance of Ragtime, I am convinced this is the best theatre company on the planet. What they do with the space that they have is nothing short of phenomenal. I look back on that spring afternoon in April of 2017 when I was at The Historic Ford's Theatre and I witnessed what I thought then was the greatest performance of live theatre I have ever seen and this includes the hundreds of shows I have seen on and off Broadway. The staging, the use of visual media during the handheld picture movie book scene. The enormous cast, movement, and rousing musical number over this expansive space. A sight to behold indeed. Well Signature just did their own version of Ragtime on a stage one fourth the size of the Ford Theatre, and it was nothing short of magical. Every song was resounding and moving. The setting was so reminiscent of this period, and the entire production took place on what appeared to be the halls of an imagined Ellis Island immigration station.  The staging was out of this world. How these actors never collided or bumped into each other during these intricate dance scenes is a rousing testament to the dance captains and choreographer. I sat in the very far back on the right and I could see perfectly, and I am blind without 20/20 corrective lenses. There is not one bad seat in the house, seeing that the seats are elevated on permanent risers, and this gives each patron ample leg room. The ushers were efficient and very friendly and took me right to my seat. I did not try the food, but they had a very appetizing pre theatre Ragtime themed menu that featured their own version of turtle soup. The lobby is clean and airy and spacious, and you never feel like you are on top of other patrons. There are places to sit in the lobby and at tables. The first floor where you pick up and order tickets has plenty of comfortable seating, and outside in the courtyard, there are plenty of places to lounge and people watch before showtime. I guess at this point, Maggie Boland, the managing director, should be considered a genius. She has had the privilege to oversee the Titanic in 2017, and now this. She gets the money, and she finds the talent. Signature never disappoints. I know when I see the season lineup, I will be going to at least two shows, and this year is no different. Please support and give to this theatre generously. They put on big budget big time shows with high-quality professional actors, and they are a regional theatre! However, they sure do not act like it. Signature is  a five-star theatre putting on a five-star performance. I am a fan for life!

Yelp
Went here to see A Chorus Line and it was wonderful! They have a little cafe with drinks and small plates and they even let you take drinks into the theater! The ushers were nice and helpful as well. And the show was lovely! Great acting and singing! I really enjoyed my time here and I want to come back for another show! It doesn't hurt that the theater is located in the cutest little town with lots of shops and restaurants. You can really make a whole day of it!

Yelp
Signature Theater in Shirlington, VA not only has two NYC-class performance spaces, it also has a stylish bar / dining area / lobby, where you can relax and have a bite to eat before / during the show. There is always free parking nearby. Many restaurants and super market in the area. You are always close to the action; In the 'Max' space you can sit balcony or stage level. Signature tailors the seating area in the Max space for each show. The sets are, out of necessity, always a bit sparse, as Signature has very limited backstage space. This makes it easier to see all the action. Everyone who goes to Signature a lot has their favorite shows! My favorites: CABARET CRAZY FOR YOU CHORUS LINE BEST LITTLE WHOREHOUSE IN TEXAS A FOX ON THE FAIRWAY GYPSY COMPANY CHESS INTO THE WOODS Cabaret and Crazy For You included several NYC-based cast members. Much innovative staging; Cabaret had 'standard' seats, tables, and a working bar - as in the 1998 NYC production (with Natasha Richardson).

Yelp
This is one of my favorite theaters to go to. There's always a wide variety of shows to choose from. The theaters are small, but intimate. There's not a bad seat in any of the theaters. The staff is friendly and accommodating. The Shirlington area the theater is in is beautiful. There are plenty of parking garages (be sure to read the signs of the garage floor you're on because they will tow you if you're in the wrong area!) and a plethora of shops and interesting eateries to patronize before or after the show. Signature also has a bar area upstairs with drinks and food. I've seen four shows here (Hairspray, Freaky Friday, Titanic, Midwestern Gothic) and I plan on returning.

Yelp
I had the pleasure of visiting the Signature Theatre on the opening night of, "Jelly's Last Jam." This multiple Tony and Drama Desk award winning musical will be playing at this theatre from August 2nd - September 11, 2016. It's the story of the legendary Jazz musician and composer, Jelly Roll Morton aka Ferdinand Joseph LaMothe. I highly recommend this musical, because it boasts a cast of extremely talented actors. This intimate and welcoming theater is absolutely beautiful. Small tables are in the front of the venue, as well as seats on the upper and lower levels. Depending on the seats you choose, the audience will be apart of the performance. We sat at Table V and we were in the mix of the entire performance. For this particular performance, the front stage had a walkway/catwalk stage that connects to a stage in the center of the room. It's a very interactive theatre and depending on where you're seated, it keeps the audience turning around in their seats to view the performance. I can honestly say, there aren't any bad seats in the house. The show can be seen from any spot in the theatre. Although food isn't allowed inside of the theatre, they have a small café where you can purchase food and eat in the lobby area. Beverages can be taken inside of the theatre. A small store is located outside of the stage area with snacks and items to purchase from the performance. Plenty of free parking is located directly behind the theatre. This is definitely the best theatre I've ever visited, plus the location is perfect. Directly in the middle of several restaurants and shops. It's cozy and very clean, with a classy vibe. I'm planning to make sure to keep an eye out for future performances that interest me at this particular theatre.

Yelp
Found discount tickets on Goldstar. Attended a production on Sunday evening. Found free parking nearby, will call had no line and short wait at bar. Cocktails were $10-$13; beer $6-8, trail mix $3. Food is not allowed in theater. Great view and acoustics in theater; seats were comfortable enough. Would return.

Yelp
This was my first visit to Signature Theatre. The friendly and welcoming staff was a pleasant surprise. The drink prices are comparable with other entertainment venues. The main theatre definitely puts you up close and personal with the actors! We can't wait to go back for the next show!

Yelp
My gosh I love this place! I came all the way from Brooklyn, NY just to see their latest production of Titanic: The Musical because I didn't know when they would revive it on Broadway and boy was I beyond satisfied! The moment I came in on Friday, Dec 16 I was greeted by a lovely gentleman at the box office who asked me if I needed to pick-up tickets, which I did. Then he said wow New York and I told him I traveled just to see this show. I'm a Broadway enthusiast and have seen over 100 shows, but never got a chance to see Titanic. The moment I got into the Max theater I was in awe. The set design was perfect, completely immersive and made me feel as if I was on the ship. I was given a boarding pass and program and waited for the show to begin. The show was beyond my expectations. The actors were phenomenal, the score as perfect as the original recording and the orchestra sublime! Needless to say, I was staying in Virginia for the weekend that I decided to purchase a ticket for the Saturday show and see it again. Again, I was floored! This wasn't Broadway, it was beyond Broadway. Really hoping I get a chance to come back and experience another production here. I'm hooked!!

Yelp
I have heard so much about Signature Theatre. It was about a month ago when I actually made it to the location. I was actually performing at restaurant nearby called Aroma Indian Cuisine which is just two blocks down the street from S.T. Funny thing, facebook sent me a notification that a friend of mine who is a talented musician and singer was nearby so after I finished performing, I went over to surprise him. I was impressed with the facility. Really cool layout and in the pefect spot for entertainment. While I was there, waiting to see him I bumped into some other people (fans and supporters) and we began chatting about what goes on at the S.T. and I was told that I can't mis the upcoming production, "Ain't Misbehavin." I put it on my calendar...I made it... Confession: I went into this soley as to support my friends who were in it. I didn't do my background on this musical until during intermission. So quite naturally, I have changed my views but for now, I'm gonna say, I liked it! In the beginning I was somewhat lost because the music and the scenes were all moving soo fast, it was difficult to keep up and put a story together. I wasn't sure if I was supposed to be drinking (I was drinking an Irish Coffee) and getting a buz in order to enjoy the show or if I should just go with it and let it flow. Act II was more of my pace, the music was more versatile. Finally, after reading about the musical (big fail before the show), I then began to realize that this music was a collection of stories and snippets that highlighted a booming lifestyle of the Manhattan nightlife. Showcasing five amazing vocalists with a phenomenal pianist (Fats Waller) and swing ensemble giving us everything you can imagine that goes on in a nightclub: Raunchy music and humorous lyrics and dances. These comments take nothing away from the talent that was displayed in tonight's production. Ain't Misbehavin is all about raw and pure talent and a good time to be had by all. If you're looking for an escape to an alternative to the conseervative side of things this musical production is your prep to a night of fun, and when it's all over, you'll be ready for your own "misbehavin." Hehehehe. I really like the diverse entertainment this venue has to offer. I plan to go back for more. The quality of talent displayed here is top notch.

Yelp
Love this local theater because it's fairly new, has a great layout and the staff is very friendly. I've seen the following plays here.. -Hairspray -Miss Saigon and many others to keep track of I've even gotten something to eat at their cafe ahead of time and had it waiting for me during intermission. Their grilled cheese bacon is pretty good I must say. Will definitely be back to support this local theater!

Yelp
Got a complimentary ticket to see "Ain't Misbehaving" wonderful show with talented, beautiful singers and nice seating. Parking is heaven and they sell wine inside! My type of event! Iyona Blake was exceptional her voice is breath taking. Thank you Signature for the experience and free ticket! I'm a def a subscriber! I look forward to more shows with my family.

Yelp
Last night, I went to go see Les Miz at the Signature with 2 friends. It was absolutely fantastic. Even though the space was obviously much smaller than a traditional venue for a show like Les Miz, it was expertly done and the expansiveness of the set really made it feel like it was bigger. They used the space very well and it definitely enhanced the show experience. The Signature is also great for its (relatively) cheap eats and drinks. Their wine is catered by the Curious Grape (a few doors down - LOVE them) and they have some good-lookin' food that doesn't cost as much cash as bigger venues would. My friends and I were just a little hungry before the show, so we shared a hummus platter. Nothing too special, but the hummus was good and hit the spot. I'm looking forward to my next show at the Signature!

Yelp
I came here to see Jesus Christ Superstar with my boyfriend and family. The show had been recommended by a coworker and I kept seeing advertisements on the Metro, so I figured why not? Ordering tickets online was a simple process, and I was excited to learn they have an ongoing military and teacher discount. When using that discount, you have to pick up the tickets at the box office, but it wasn't an issue at all. I'd never been to Signature Theatre before, so I was really impressed when walking into the modern, open lobby for the first time. I was also surprised to learn that they let you bring your drinks to the seat! No chugging drinks here, as an usher playfully told me :) The bar also has a cool feature where you can order your drink for intermission ahead of time so you don't have to wait in line. The seating was arranged in an intimate circle around the stage - not a bad seat in the house. I love a good show at the Kennedy Center or any other large arts space, but it's pretty cool to have the actors being within an arms reach! I don't want to get too much into the show itself, but it was fun and gave us lots to talk about during intermission. As we were walking out, we looked into some of the upcoming shows... we'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Last week, I went to a weeknight performance of Miss Saigon. I was really impressed by what the show was able to do with the Max Theatre. They did a fine job simulating the helicopter scene! I really enjoyed the quality of the performance and this is coming from someone who was skeptical to watch this show at a local theatre. They proved me so wrong. As soon as I walked into the Signature Theatre, I was impressed. The decor is industrial yet inviting. There is a bar area and they allow you to bring in your drinks into the theatre...bonus! They served some cafe food too but I didn't get to try it. They also provide an order ahead service so you can order and pay for your food so that it'll be ready at the intermission. While the chairs were comfortable, the Center seating is set up on a system that is similar to stadium bleachers so you can kinda feel everyone walking. Overall, I would love to go back to see another show. I highly recommend that you do too! It's located in the The Village at Shirlington so there are plenty of places to walk around, have a nice dinner *nudge nudge wink wink...date night material!

Yelp
Saw the Signature's production of Titanic and WOW. I was so impressed. The location of the theater is really neat, kind of on a corner with a two story look from the outside. The lobby was spacious but felt energetic with everyone waiting to go in for the show. There was lots to look at and they had a "red carpet" kind of iceberg you could pose in front of which was cool. The production itself was fantastic. We bought "limited view" tickets because they were much cheaper but our view was really just fine! I can only assume it was because of some of the set pieces that came across your sight line, but action happened on those pieces so I didn't view it as an obstruction at all. Anytime you go to a theater in the round there are always going to be parts of the show you don't have a perfect, front facing view of, but that is part of the experience. The actors were amazing and I can't speak highly enough of the set and the music. All around it was an awesome show and some of the more challenging aspects of the story to portray on stage were represented very creatively. I loved it. The only thing was that the upstairs bathroom only had three stalls which made for a long line at intermission. No big deal though, I still got to use the restroom before the second act started. Overall a great evening out!

Yelp
Warning: Do not go here if you have asthma or CPOD! Signature Theater is a small venue, and they allow cigarette smoking on stage during their production of Billy Elliott. This can be life-threatening if you have breathing problems. Many actors smoked during numerous scenes. I'm still trying to recover from the assault on my lungs.

Yelp
Getting there: The website directions are very thorough-we didn't get lost once on our way down there. Parking is free and very close to the theatre (one block.) Yay for free parking! The space: The foyer is sleek and modern with plenty of seating. The theater itself has no bad seats: the three of us got tickets when there were but 8 tickets left, so we got the upstairs, left side. The view was absolutely fine, so don't worry if you can't get front and center. The one problem: I bought tickets of Goldstar.com, which uses another ticket service. When we arrived the seats that were on the ticket were already taken. Apparently, the website had told the theater that we had bought three tickets, but told them the wrong seats. However, the girl who took care of the problem was very apologetic, very quick to get us other seats, and remembered to find us during intermission to apologize again and see if there were any problems. So that was very nice. The show: "The Visit" with Chita Rivera, mostly because I really wanted to see Chita Rivera, who was amazing The whole production was excellent, from the acting to the sound and props. I haven't seen anything else there, but after this good experience, I will be on the lookout for another show! A cool perk: you can order your intermission refreshments beforehand. Write it on the form and give it to the bartender. When you come out for intermission, your drinks await! This is very cool and saves time so you can sit and enjoy your illy coffee instead of waiting in line. It's also close to a few restaurants and cafes if you're hungry after the show. Overall: A great, easy, quality night out. The tickets might be a little pricey, depending on the show, but see if you can't find cheaper ones on Goldstar or something. Dress code: Sort of casual, but nice (mostly sundresses, jackets, skirts, short heels, and pressed khakis, and in general, a well-groomed crowd.) A few (like me, who is perenially overdressed) kicked it up a notch with higher heels and some bling, but don't get out the cocktail dress for this place. Also: would be a great spot for a date.

Yelp
I saw Sunset Blvd this past weekend, 1/29/2011, and it was a wonderful musical. The Signature Theater is continually attracting top of the line productions and has become on of my favorite venues to see live theater. Two tips: 1) head to the box office 1 hour before the show time and you can purchase tickets at half price ($30 instead of $60). 2) do not buy tickets that are considered "obstructed view". The percentage of the stage that is "obstructed" can be very frustrating and does not allow you to fully enjoy the ambiance of a small theater.

Yelp
A beautiful and cool spot in Shirlington--they won a Tony for best regional theater (or something). Just want to correct another reviewer who said that "public transportation" is not an option. It is. Take the ART 77 bus from Courthouse or Clarendon metro weekdays every 30 minutes--or the Metrobus 10B any day, also every half hour, from Ballston.

Yelp
We just saw "crazy for you" musical here and it was terrific. Very high energy, lovely costumes and some super singing. It's a smaller theater so you see everything no matter where you sit. And you can park for free nearby!

Yelp
This theater is wonderful! It's nice and clean and quaint. So intimate that I don't think there's a bad seat in the whole place. I have seen quite a few wonderful productions there and definitely recommend it to any theater fan.

Yelp
Best little suburban theater EV-UR. DC is replete with wonderful theaters, but Signature has to be my favorite. I love the theater, tho, so this is a very tough call for me. Kind of like picking my favorite kid. Wait, I don't have any kids...but if I did, I'd totally pick the smart jock one. We loved Signature when it was housed in a renovated garage, and we love it even more now that it's in its new, beautiful, state-of-the-art space in Shirlington. Everything Signature produces is wonderful. I am a Les Miz freak, I've seen it a dozen times with various companies and in various venues, plus the original Broadway soundtrack is never removed from my iPod playlist. But Signature's version last year was one of the best I have seen anywhere. Because of the smaller, more intimate space, this production was totally innovative and different. Plus, at the premiere showing of "Saving Aimee," a play written by Kathie Lee Gifford about one of the first modern day evangelists, Aimee Semple McPherson, we actually SAW Kathie Lee glugging cocktails at intermission. There's no other way to describe her except "toothpick-legged wastoid sporting an age-inapprorpriate miniskirt," but it was a crazy awesome C-list celeb sighting nonetheless. Love you, Signature.

Yelp
Here to see "Crazy for you," as a Xmas present. Second time here for me. Great theatre, with good set up to view the play. Not really a bad seat in the house. We have orchestra left seats this time. Musical was wonderful, exceptional performances by all!!
