Our Readers' Favorite Iceland Resorts of 2023

"A sleek, stylish property whose overnight guests enjoy exclusive access to a private bathing lagoon (open daily from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.), offering a quieter, more intimate experience of the island’s famed geothermal pools. Rooms command a premium (starting around $650 per night), and many readers called the splurge worthwhile for the seclusion and amenities." - Brad Japhe Brad Japhe Brad Japhe is a journalist specializing in food, beverage, and travel. Review of Silica Hotel, Iceland Silica Hotel, nestled in the heart of the Reykjanes Peninsula and just a short walk from the world-famous Blue Lagoon, offers an extraordinary blend of luxury, tranquility, and natural wonder. This serene retreat is perfect for travelers seeking a more intimate and exclusive Icelandic spa experience, with a level of comfort and service that truly sets it apart. The hotel’s design is sleek and minimalist, blending beautifully with the surrounding lava fields. Rooms are spacious, modern, and filled with natural light, offering stunning views of moss-covered volcanic landscapes. Every stay includes access to the hotel’s private, mineral-rich lagoon — a peaceful and secluded alternative to the often-crowded main Blue Lagoon. Floating in its warm, milky-blue waters is nothing short of magical. Service at Silica Hotel is exceptional. Staff are warm, professional, and always attentive to detail. The included breakfast is fresh, beautifully presented, and served in a calming lounge space that reflects the overall ambiance of the property. Guests also enjoy premium admission to the Blue Lagoon and a reserved time slot, ensuring a seamless, elevated experience. Silica Hotel is ideal for honeymooners, wellness seekers, and anyone wishing to unwind in luxury surrounded by Iceland’s raw, untouched beauty. It’s not just a hotel — it’s a sanctuary.

We stayed here a day/night as soon as our 10+ hour flight landed. It's a great way to relax after a long day of travel. We booked a Moss Deluxe room, which was adequate. It's spacious enough, simplistic in an IKEA-nordic way, and has complimentary soft mini-bar. Breakfast spread was also decent, with cold cuts, some basic hot food, and pastries. But the best part of staying here is the exclusive access to the Silica lagoon, which is available to hotel guests only. There were never more than 6 people in the lagoon during the time we were there. When we went to check out the Blue Lagoon, it was crowded and somewhat chaotic. It's so much more tranquil at Silica. Staff was friendly and helpful.

Lovely calm hotel, loved the extended access to the lagoon at the hotel. Package include access to the Blue Lagoon next door. Breakfast was great, staff were welcoming and really friendly, would definitely stay here again if we returned to Iceland.

The staff are engaging and attentive. The rooms are immaculate and quiet. It is a great place to get away from it all and to be as private or not as you wish. We found it a brilliant end to our holiday in Iceland. The daily pass into the Blue Lagoon is definitely worth taking advantage of. It is a lot busier there, but there is a lot of room in the lagoon itself, and it is easy to find yourself a spot to suit you. The lagoon at the Silica is smaller and cosier. It is hotter, too (not that the other is cold!). With only 35 rooms, the Silica hotel nor its lagoon are ever overcrowded. The breakfast is delicious and is eaten in the hotel. All the other meals are served in the restaurants in the Blue Lagoon. If you haven't got a car to get around in, you will need to eat there. Check out the menus on their site.

“Definitely a once-in-a-lifetime must-stay hotel.” We were so blissfully soaking in the Blue Lagoon, sipping champagne while watching the sunset. At night, we opened the door to a view of Iceland’s unique moss landscape, and looked up to see a sky full of stars. It makes you feel— life is truly beautiful.

We stayed here for one night near the end of our 9 day Ring Road trip, and this was exactly what we all needed! The hotel is built right into the lava fields, and has its own private geothermal lagoons connected to the same waters of Blue Lagoon. We did walk the 5 minutes over to Blue Lagoon to check it out, and had dinner at Lava Restaurant. If you can stay the night and don’t mind spending a little more to have your own private lagoon, this is your place! The breakfast buffet was the best on our trip, the beds were very comfortable, and the lounge areas overlooking the lagoons were a great place to curl up with a book and glass of wine. Very friendly staff and totally serene, calm atmosphere.

This was one of then highlights of anywhere I have stayed, EVER. The staff was incredible ... very professional, yet friendly. The food at the restaurant was wonderful, as was the wait staff. The room was delightful and we absolutely loved the attached lagoon to The Silica. Everything about The Silica and The Blue Lagoon was first class, absolutely outstanding and worth every penny.

We stayed in room 9 for one night on our recent Iceland trip. Loved this hotel! Easy walking distance to the Blue Lagoon. We also loved their lagoon too. Essentially same thing but way less crowded. Breakfast spread was great. Bed was by far the most comfortable the whole trip. Pillows were actually decent too and that’s hard to find for hotels. Highly recommend!
