"I also recommend the Silica Hotel for a Blue Lagoon–area stay in Reykjanes, but note that it, too, is already booked for the eclipse with only the possibility of last-minute cancellations." - Stefanie Waldek

Our Readers' Favorite Iceland Resorts of 2023

"A sleek, stylish property whose overnight guests enjoy exclusive access to a private bathing lagoon (open daily from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m.), offering a quieter, more intimate experience of the island’s famed geothermal pools. Rooms command a premium (starting around $650 per night), and many readers called the splurge worthwhile for the seclusion and amenities." - Brad Japhe Brad Japhe Brad Japhe is a journalist specializing in food, beverage, and travel. A Review of Silica Hotel, Iceland | Hotel Above Par

"Set a short walk from the main Blue Lagoon complex but emotionally galaxies away, Silica Hotel feels like a quietly lunar, minimalist wellness retreat embedded in the Illahraun lava field. It opened in 2005 as a medical clinic for psoriasis patients and was reimagined in 2016 as a 35-room retreat with a new mission of fewer bodies, more breath. Low-slung buildings blend into the rock and interiors of pale birch, warm textiles, and clean‑lined furniture keep the views front and center via floor-to-ceiling windows; the rooms are spare but considered — concrete floors that never feel cold, thick linen curtains, a moody black-and-white photo, and a terrace facing the lava where I watched the moss shift from weathered charcoal to neon green. Bathrooms were larger than expected with waterfall showers, stone tile, and Icelandic spa products (I would’ve liked a bathtub, but underfloor heating compensated). Breakfast felt like a highlight: fresh skyr, soft‑boiled eggs, still-warm rye, cured fish, and coffee — take a second cup to the lagoon-view lounge and sit. The private Silica Lagoon (same geothermal water as the Blue Lagoon) is the real reason to come: peaceful, warm, late-open and uncrowded, and the hotel complements it with a small gym, concierge-recommended hikes and hidden trails, Northern Lights wake-up calls, and concierge-arranged activities; it’s about 45 minutes from Reykjavík and 20 minutes from the airport." - Jordi Lippe-McGraw

LOVED this hotel! Has its own private lagoon which is almost a better experience than the blue lagoon. It’s really quiet and peaceful and open at anytime with no crowds. We went during the holiday times in late December and really enjoyed. It’s a short walk from the blue lagoon. The hotel can also call you a shuttle. A major selling point is that your room includes a ticket to the blue lagoon. Even the basic rooms have a beautiful view.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Silica Hotel – A Truly Unforgettable Iceland Experience. Our stay at the Silica Hotel was nothing short of exceptional. The location is perfect—just under a 10-minute walk to the Blue Lagoon—yet the hotel feels peaceful, private, and beautifully secluded. One of the absolute highlights of our entire Iceland trip was the hotel’s own private lagoon. It has the same relaxing, otherworldly vibe as the Blue Lagoon but without the crowds. The privacy made the experience feel incredibly special. The hotel also provides complimentary masks, and you can even request different types, which added such a fun and luxurious touch to the soak. The staff was amazing across the board, but I especially want to recognize the lady working in the breakfast restaurant. She was managing everything on her own yet remained efficient, warm, and attentive—truly impressive. Beautiful scenery, serene atmosphere, outstanding service, and a stunning private lagoon—Silica Hotel is an easy 5 stars and a highlight of our trip. Highly recommend!

Came here to celebrate my sister receiving a CEO award at work. We stayed here for one night and it was an incredible once in a lifetime experience. We had the lagoon to ourselves almost the entire time and loved that they provided a huge bowl of their silica mask to put on when entering the lagoon. They had a gorgeous breakfast with fresh fruits, pastries, juices, and coffees. I would highly recommend this hotel for a celebratory experience-honeymoon, baby moon, anniversary, promotion, birthday, etc.!

I had an amazing one night stay here, guests get free access to the lagoon and a free drink ticket. There was also a free shuttle service to take you to the blue lagoon (which is only a few minutes away). There was also a path connecting this hotel to the blue lagoon so it was only a few minutes walk. The Silica hotel had its own spa indoor and outdoors available. The only thing I would recommend is too book restaurant accommodations in advance if you want to eat at any of the restaurants because there are limited food options in the area and when I was there they were all booked last minute. The hotel room designs are spectacular and the lobby free breakfast was also great with many options. I would definitely stay here again.

Silica Hotel was *fantastic*! Room 28 had an amazing lagoon view and the first time we stepped out into the patio, my boyfriend proposed. Needless to say, this will be such a special place for us going forward! The staff were so courteous and polite. They provided us with an early check-in and late check-out; Iceland was the last leg of our 4-country vacation so it was a much needed accommodation to be able to just relax and rest as soon as we got there. We had reservations to Moss (highly recommend!!!) and were driven to and from the restaurant by the lovely staff. We were there during rainy weather and regret not being able to take advantage of the private lagoon although we were at the Blue Lagoon for hours early in our trip. As a hotel guest, you get an included upgrade with the robe, 2 free drinks of your choice, 3 masks, and discount off Blue Lagoon products. Breakfast was included with the stay and was absolutely excellent. We will definitely be back here again and hope to make it a yearly trip!

It’s not a cheap place, but it’s absolutely worth it. Your stay includes access to the Blue Lagoon, but their private lagoon is actually much better. The food at the Lava Restaurant was incredible. Breakfast was included, very complete and delicious. Be careful with your hair when getting into the water — it can get ruined. Use plenty of conditioner or avoid getting it wet.

It was very nice and relaxing in the start, but quickly became falling apart as they had many errors! I was surprised they fell short of making up for their mistakes, no offers for the inconvenience it caused me that they gave me the wrong wrist bad and it was a small issue that held me up at blue lagoon. Then I had a bad skin reaction with a red blotchy, itchy rash that lasted all day from using their silica mask given at silica hotel soaking area. I wish they had a sign or someone had told me it’s not best for sensitive skin! They told me after the fact. I had bought a face skin kit before arrival and when I realized my sensitivity and their scam of skin care products, I asked for a refund and to return them. They said we’ll talk to management and see what we can do… then I got to repeat myself to management and they gave a refund but they she was really weird to tell me, we normally give a makeup gift when you leave, but we aren’t since you didn’t like our skin care products. I said I could gift the makeup to someone I know, I’ll take it and the lady said no we won’t. She was weird the whole way through, I really didn’t appreciate how I was treated by her. As if I was making up my skin sensitivity for a refund! It’s weird to mention the makeup gift and not give it to me! If it’s given when you leave!

Your own private silica lagoon just steps away from the comfort of your room—this is really what you’re paying for and for me the privacy alone makes it 100% worth it. We didn’t even bother going to the actual ticketed Blue Lagoon even if the admission comes with your stay because the private lagoon in the hotel was so private, peaceful and secluded. We opted for a late afternoon flight so we could enjoy the full morning in the hotel even whilst we were checked out already. Breakfast spread was fantastic as well!
