Meet the First Noodle of China

"The playful decor in this newcomer one block from the beach features a large upside-down blue-and-white noodle bowl as lighting fixtures and colorful plates depicting black-and-white landscapes in the center. Opened in May in Pacific Beach Marketplace, Silk Road offers four noodle shapes for about $15 at time of reporting, and add-ons include soy-marinated egg and extra beef or noodles." - Sharon McDonnell

Google
The ramen were excellent and a pleasure to watch them made to order, whatever shape, tenderness, or thickness you like. I got the medium, which I guessed is the most popular. The waitress was extremely helpful and pleasant-Thank You! I’m no expert on Ramen, but I have tried several. This was tied with my favorite Zushi in St. Louis which is impressive! The hand made while we watch is very fun!

Craving some delicious hand pulled noodles after a swim in the Pacific Ocean? Right across from the road to the beach (next to Ralph’s) is Silk Road. Opened in may 2025 this place is the go to for some Chinese comfort food. My friend and I went to try this out and was happy we got to meet one of the owners, Phillip. He let us take a video of the hand pull noodles at the window and recommended his favorite dish. The langzhou beef noodles. You get to choose the thickness of the noodles. The pricing is so worth it and the broth is an everything. Thanks to Phillip for taking care of us. We can’t wait to come back again.

1️⃣I've heard for a long time that PB has opened a new Lanzhou noodle restaurant. Finally, I found some time and went with my friends to try it out. It's located right next to Ralphs supermarket, and parking is very convenient. There's a two-hour free parking in the underground garage. Note: If you want to park for a longer time and take a walk on the beach, it's not recommended to take the risk. It's said that if you exceed the time limit, your car might be towed. As soon as we entered the store, the owner greeted us warmly and handed us the menu. Currently, the menu is still relatively simple, mainly featuring noodles, fried noodles, fried rice, along with a few side dishes and lamb kebabs. The owner said that more items will be added later. 。 We ordered the signature ramen ◎, fried noodles, beef dumplings and lamb kebabs. The owner highly recommended their secret chili sauce, emphasizing that it was "imported by sea from China", and it was indeed amazing - the aroma was very rich, but the spiciness was quite mild. It added a lot of flavor when mixed with the noodles. The lamb kebabs were also a highlight - the fat and lean meat were evenly distributed, and they were grilled to a fragrant crisp. The store was clean and bright. Soon after we sat down, it was full of people, including many Chinese faces and foreigners who came for the reputation. It was very popular. The owner told us that they plan to open a store in the north in the future, which is great news for us residents in the north! This store is very popular in China, and the taste is indeed very authentic. I highly recommend everyone to give it a try! 2️⃣I want to recommend this Lanzhou Hand-Pulled Noodles restaurant again. The location is indeed a bit inconvenient, but the flavor is authentic and excellent, and it offers great value for money. This week, for the Mid-Autumn Festival, they have a reunion special: from October 6, for one week, the Lanzhou Beef Noodles are on special offer at $8.99 (original price $14.99). They also offer two hours of free underground parking. When my friends and I went, we were given complimentary mooncakes with our meal. The service was very warm and attentive—when we finished the side dishes, they provided free refills. The owner is also very sincere, making everyone who dines there feel right at home. I’m looking forward to them opening a branch in the north soon!

Google
This noodle place is fantastic! It is real handmade noodles and they are totally different from other noodle places. It’s authentic Lanzhou style, the beef broth you can tell that they boiled long time to make it. I love the white pepper taste in the broth too. I would recommend to everyone for the noodle. If one bowl of noodle is not enough, you can also add noodles with cheap price. The second picture is the half of the added noodles(I ate half before I remembered to take a picture) Staff members are very friendly and welcoming. 拉面确实可以,推荐推荐(别点炒饭)

Really great service. Waitress was very nice and attentive. She had great recommendations! Fresh hand made noodles and tasty broth. Beef was tender and with chili oil added… chefs kiss. I will definitely come back when I am in PB.

Google
This restaurant surprised me, it is super authentic and delicious. The flavor is really close to the noodles I had in LanZhou. The soup, and the noodle texture are very delicious. I saw the chef was making the hand pulled noodles through the kitchen window. The hand pulled noodles definitely taste different than the machine made ones. The beef is super good as well. The flavor, the tenderness and the chili oil poured on the top, it is perfect. If you are looking for some halal and northern west style Chinese restaurant, this is the place to go!

Absolutely love this place! The food is always fresh and flavorful — the broth is rich, the noodles are perfectly chewy, and the portions are generous. The staff are super friendly too. Definitely my go-to spot whenever I crave Lanzhou noodles!

Google
Stopped by during their soft opening. I was surprised. The handmade noodles were fresh and had a great chewy texture. The chili oil was flavorful with just the right amount of heat, not overpowering, but still packed with taste. The lady who welcomed us was incredibly friendly and provided excellent service, which really added to the experience. I’m looking forward to coming back once they officially open and trying more from the full menu. Definitely a spot to keep an eye on!

Yelp
Lanzhou Beef Noodles: 10/10 Very good. I got the wide noodles and they were phenomenal. This definitely has a sort of pho-esque flavor, but is definitely in its own world. The beef was tender, radish not too mushy, and noodles were perfectly chewy. The chili oil here, which is on the side, is mild and has a deep chili and smoky flavor. You can ask for a sort of green salsa hot sauce (it really does taste like salsa verde) that is decently hot, but not spicy to me. Very balanced bowl of noodles, I recommend Shredded Carrot and Potato Salad: 9/10 I was expecting the traditional sour style of shredded salad, but this one was different! It had a lot of spices I don't associate with the dish. I mean this in the best way, it tastes like how dimsum restaurants smell. A bit oily, but everything was seasoned perfectly. Purple Cabbage Salad: 7.5/10 Decent, it's sweet and sour. I was kind of afraid this was going to be like a rebranded Costco salad, but it wasn't. I wouldn't pick it again but if you want something with a fresh veggie crunch, this might do it for you. Spicy Seaweed Salad: 9/10 I liked this a lot! It actually was not too fishy or ocean-y and had that signature mala flavor I love. The most flavorful of the side dishes that we had today.Minced Beef Pie: 8/10 Thick crispy dough with layers of beef. It tastes like a hamburger. These are not my favorite style of buns since the inner layers tend to be dry and doughy, but if you dip it into the soup it is perfection. I prefer this over a youtiao any day.Minced Beef with Bean Dumplings: 8/10 These were okay too. I like a thicker skin, boiled dumpling so these were a plus for me. The filling was kind of whatever. It was a bit tough and the "beans" are salted black beans. It's a more unique filling but I didn't feel like it was very good nor bad. Ambiance: The interior is nice and new. Just by the nature of the food, it might not be good for a fancier occasion, but why not. It really reminds me of those new style restaurants back in China. Service: Getting seated took some time because there was only 1 waitress, but food came out fast. The order that the food came out was a little odd (cold dishes, noodles, dumplings, then pie way later), but that's usually with most Chinese restaurants. Parking: You park at the Ralphs underground parking. Easy when you know where to go. When you put in your GPS directions, go to Ralphs.

Yelp
- parking available in the ralph's underground parking - open, modern, and beautiful space - super friendly and attentive staff! the service was also extremely quick - the lanzhou beef noodle with thin noodles was so so yummy and comforting. the broth tasted clean and flavorful packed with beef and some spices. the broth also clung to the noodles very well!

Yelp
Truely authentic Lanzhou noodles. Their spicy sauce on the side is also made by them and absolutely needed in my life. Great place, awesome location with Free 2 hour parking below Ralphs and the Restaurant. And literally a walk to the beach.

Yelp
Newly open hand pulled noodle spot is an underwhelming example of needing to know your context and your audience. As Chinese Americans that have tried a variety of dishes I would say the flavor seemed way too salty or not thick enough of a broth. It definitely had this strange mix between over seasoned and way under seasoned. I would say my fried rice with shrimp was more like shrimp pieces and not like any of the pictures in the menu or advertisements and you'll see in my pictures. The vegetables look like they were frozen or like from cup a noodles. The fried chicken wings were over fried two and not as crispy surprisingly and the taste was very off. The meat portions were not satisfying at all. They came in much smaller varieties and I think we left hungry still. The lamb skewers were dry and the beef was good, but not enough. With the dishes, we ordered for two kids and three adults. It came out to about $90. I will say the store is very well decorated and clean. They just opened recently and the. Hand pull noodles were chewy. They had deals like $10 off a meal if with a coupon or if you're a UCSD student you get 10% off your meal. I literally think this is way too far for UCSD students to go to---once again your audience is PB bar, hoppers and beachgoers and younger people. The two stars are for the good service and the hot chili oil they had which seemed to be homemade.

Yelp
This spot just opened in May. Amazing location a block from the beach and right next to Ralph's. The workers are so friendly and helpful. Amazing great service. The noodles are hand pulled and you can even watch them do it from your seats. Great flavor. I like how the vinegar is in a teapot for easy pour. I got the Lanzhou beef noodle soup. You get to pick the kind of fresh noodles you want. I opted for flat and wide. They freshly pull it for you. Also tried the dumpling and they were good. Noodles had amazing texture. Meat was very tender. Broth was flavorful.

Yelp
Silk Road Lanzhou Beef Noodles debuted right before the Memorial Day holiday in the Pacific Beach Marketplace along the main drag near the beachfront. It replaced a short-lived Mexican snack and dessert vendor. The shopping plaza is anchored by a Ralphs supermarket that featured an underground parking structure dedicated for all of the businesses. This was a terrific benefit as I couldn't imagine looking for curbside parking so close to the ocean which would be a nightmare. That being said, I found it interesting such an Asian eatery decided to set up here because they seem too specialized to fit the taste of most beachgoers. A popular boba tea chain operating in a suite across from Silk Road did not survive more than a few years. When I visited during the early days of the soft opening period, a 50% promotional discount was applied to my check. The menu spanned across three pages with a total of less than 20 offerings. Only two items were available because the menu was not fully ready yet. The Pan Fried Beef Dumplings were served as eight pieces even though the menu listed it as a six-piece appetizer. Perhaps the kitchen added a couple of dumplings as a soft opening goodwill gesture. They were fried nicely and had good crispy edges. The signature Lanzhou Beef Noodles came with six slices of meat. The noodles were freshly hand pulled as you could see a chef going through the motions on the other side of the kitchen window. Four thickness options were offered, and I selected the Medium Thick variety. The broth was not spicy at all while the noodles were terrific. Silk Road Lanzhou Beef Noodles would seem to fit in the Convoy District, however there's already plenty of competition in that neighborhood. It's a bold step for them to establish a presence near PB's waterfront. I hope they can sustain sufficient customer volume to succeed in this spot.

Yelp
Unfortunately did not meet expectations. The noodle texture was solid, but the broth was pretty bland. Dishes did not look like the photos in the menu. Protein portions were small. Dumplings had filling that were not authentic (peas and carrots???). Prices were reasonable. Probably will not come back here

Yelp
'Silk Road,' was a network of ancient trade routes which facilitated trade between China and the Far East to the Middle East and Europe. The Silk Road primarily facilitated the exchange of goods like silk, spices, precious stones, and other commodities between East and West. 'Lanzhou,' is among the largest cities by population in northwestern China. Silk Road Lanzhou noodles is the regional signature dish. The restaurant is part of the plaza which is anchored by Ralphs market, which has ample parking. Whoever set up this business Yelp page neglected to include the hours. I spoke to one of the restaurant staffers Jessie, who confirmed the hours of operation as: Sunday-Thursday 12noon-2pm, 5pm-10pm Friday-Saturday 12noon-2pm, 5pm-12am I send Yelp these hours so they can update edit this business Yelp page. This restaurant opened last week and is still in its soft opening stage. I stopped in for a late lunch to try their signature Lanzhou beef noodle soup. I was greeted cordially and welcomed to select seating, which only indoors. I sat in a comfortable booth. The interior was clean, decor was simple and minimalistic but with tasteful hints of Chinese red color throughout. The menu offered limited selections but I ordered the signature dish: the Lanzhou beef noodle soup. The noodles are hand made in house and was served in clear broth, along with slice turnips, green onions and sliced Wagyu beef slices. Additionally, I ordered more beef slices and a marinated egg. Service was quick, attentive and courteous by waiter Joe. The broth was delicious but since I had visited the Lanzhou region during my China travels, I know to add the roasted chili oil into the soup to add essence of dept making it wonderfully delish. The thin Wagyu slice were well marbled and semi melted into the soup and in my mouth. I wanted to try the braised beef which are chunky cube shaped but was informed the kitchen was out and would have more by next week :( I chose the thin noodles which were a little more Al dente than I prefer, but also very good. Will wait a bit until the restaurant settles into stride and will consider revisiting it for the chunky cube shaped braised beef, which is what I remember the noodle soup I had in Lanzhou included. Wish I could have enjoyed that dish here. The Beef Noodle soup was nonetheless did warm my soul and Silk Road is a worthwhile visit. Recommend

Yelp
Ugh, really wanted to like this place, but there was just wayyyyy too much MSG in all of the dishes. Made all of the dishes taste extremely salty and interfered with the natural flavor. I could see the individual MSG crystals sprinkled on the lamb skewers, which was quite concerning. In general MSG is not bad if used in moderation, but this place just overdid it. I even Ubered all the way from Point Loma to try this place. Had to grab a big 1 litre bottle of water from Ralphs nearby to rehydrate. Would not come back unfortunately.

Yelp
Came here after seeing a blog post on mmm-yoso. We had hoped to make it to the soft opening but had just missed it (and the 50% off deal). No matter, as my crew and I are always up for trying Asian noodle places. They have expanded the menu from the soft opening but we all ended up ordering the chef Lanzhou noodle soup recommendation because they had run out of the braised beef. I got medium thick noodles which were just a bit thicker than the thin ones. They had a great texture and just the right amount of bite. The broth was very light. We added the chili oil and vinegar that were on the table. I didn't add too much vinegar though it was a good addition. The chili oil isn't spicy but it had good flavor. The meat is tender but we weren't a big fan of the seasoned egg. It was a bit too overcooked which led to a chalky yoke. It was an entire egg though! The service is good. Our server didn't hear our order for lamb skewers but we were pretty full after the noodles. We will have to come back to try other options!

Yelp
This restaurant was perfect on a cold, rainy day in San Diego. We tried a bunch of different menu items. The Lanzhou Beef Noodle soup was delicious and so comforting. The broth had a beef flavor with herbaceous undertones. Noodles are hand pulled to your desired thickness. I chose medium thick and they had the perfect bite back. The cooked radish in my opinion was the star of the dish! Utterly wonderful! We also tried the beef and bean dumplings and they did not disappoint. The server was very knowledgeable and attentive. Overall a wonder experience!

Yelp
New spot in the area! I hope it sticks around... the flavors were fabulous. The broth in beef noodle soup was SO good. The egg and sauce was my favorite part of my fried noodle dish. Great prices for the portions you get. Staff is super kind and attentive. We will be making this place a regular for us!! Don't think they serve alcohol though...

Yelp
We came here for their soft opening where only the signature dish Lanzhou beef noodle soup was served with a side of pickled veggies. The inside is small but efficient and bright with decor that gives off a mix of modern and traditional Chinese. Parking is super easy! Yes in PB! Because this place has an underground parking structure shared with other shops in the plaza. So don't fear to come here! What we had was delicious. The broth is flavorful and light and sliced beef was tender and noodles were perfect texture. A small kink was we all received different amount of beef but I'm sure that'll be more consistent once the restaurant is more established. I love that a traditional Chinese restaurant stepped out of convoy area but it better serve extra servings of carbs to those hungry surfers nearby! Can't wait to try out some more on the menu!

Yelp
We were visiting the area and we're looking for a spot to eat with our 3 kids. We settled on this spot mainly because of the video on their website showing the man stretching the dough to make handmade noodles - so cool! The restaurant itself is in a easy to get to spot and it's very clean. We sat down in a nice booth and ordered the lanzhou beef noodle soup for everyone (we all shared 2 bowls) and we also decided to order the steamed dumplings - they make them to order! The server highly suggested the shrimp and mushroom and the beef ones. The soup was super good - simple but savory broth and the noodles were very good. The dumplings - the beef ones were good but the shrimp - amazing! So much flavor! They were so good that we ordered another plate of them. Overall we enjoyed our experience and would highly recommend.

Yelp
Known for their Lanzhou style beef noodles, but their braised beef noodle is also top tier. Saying this as someone who lived in Taiwan and has had to suffer extended years of no decent beef noodles in this city - this place is 100% legit. Super friendly staff as well. Convenient parking in the Ralph's parking lot. Please come here and support them so that they can be here for a long time!

Yelp
It's delicious, and I'll definitely come back next time. It tastes so authentically Chinese - the noodles are chewy and the soup is really flavorful.

Yelp
the food was really good, broth was great noodles were perfect and definitely the best noodles i have ever had, the meat was good to and the service was attentive and friendly i really enjoyed it

Yelp
While you usually think of PB as a place for burritos, burgers and beer, Silk Road Lanzhou offers a break from the usual fare. In a small restaurant in the Ralph's plaza, you will find one of the most authentic Chinese restaurants West of Convoy! This is not American Chinese. It is both authentic and delicious. The beef noodle soup comes with your choice of noodle sizes. I chose medium. (You can watch the noodle crafter making them behind Plexiglas as you wait!) We also ordered homemade dumplings, cool sesame noodles and a plate of four different types of veggie appetizers. The servers were attentive. (They let us in a little bit early, before the restaurant opened, and were quick and helpful serving us!) I can't wait to return! Delicious noodles and dumplings steps from the beach!!

Yelp
Excited for the new spot in the neighborhood. Finally tried it tonight. We got 3 entrees. Lanzhou beef noodles, Braised beef over rice and fried noodles with beef. (For take out). The soup was SO SALTY however had no taste at all. It was like hot salt water with a few little slivers of green onion. I couldn't finish it. Fried beef noodles was basically a yakisoba you'd make at 3am after a night out, also really salty, but it was the best out of the 3 dishes. I submitted a picture of what the Braised beef was supposed to look like and what I received. I added beef noodles for my son so it wasnt so dry. It was 6 cubes of dry meat on plain white rice. ‍ It only had a few customers inside, staff was working hard and the front counter guy was nice. Out of all 3 dishes the beef is what really made me write this review not even the salt water bland noodles.
google avatar

Mike S.

Yelp
Great hand pulled Chinese beef noodles! You can pick the thickness of the noodles, very good texture. Soup is a nice clear beef broth.
google avatar

Yelp
I heard of the hype of this restaurant. And I finally decided to order it try it out. Honestly, this is not the Lanzhou Noodles I expected. The noodle isn't chewy, and the broth is super tasteless. I'm kinda disappointed.
google avatar

Vincent C.

Yelp
Service and flavor was great. The restaurant itself was a bit warm. Also wished they gave more beef in their bowl - pieces were thin and small but flavorful, noodle weren't too bad. Overall, wouldn't care for coming back, but would recommend trying out once. If I do come back, would be willing to try their classic beef noodle soup or fried rice.
google avatar

Yelp
Had some delicious pho on a cold day! But be warned, that black liquid in the white tea kettle on the tables is not soy sauce, it's vinegar! Don't make the same mistake me and my husband dead and pour a bunch of it into your soup thinking it's soy sauce! lol. Great restaurant, staff was all really nice

Le H.

Yelp
They need to update their hours on Yelp. Got here on a Wednesday only to find out they are closed.

Rena C.

Yelp
So good! The hand-pulled noodles are super fresh and chewy, and the beef broth is full of flavor. It tastes just like the real Lanzhou noodles I've had in China. Friendly staff and fast service too -- definitely my new favorite noodle spot!
google avatar

Blake D.

Yelp
Soft opening right now: they served their simple beef noodle. The noodles were delicious, soft and chewy, freshly made in the kitchen. Very clean inside, polite and quick service. They open next week for a hard launch with many noodle options, excited to go back and try more. Nice to see a beef noodle shop opening on Pacific Beach! Was too excited to eat, forgot to take a photo of the food!

Yelp
Came here to try something new. These noodles are delicious and a very unique restaurant for PB. We are used to Thai or Pho style restaurants in the neighborhood. The noodle soup has a delicious broth and the noodles are made fresh behind the glass window. I also had the dumplings which were my kids favorite, and finally the chow mein style fried noodles which were great. The free parking garage makes it easy to visit this restaurant and the inside was clean. This seems to be a family run business as the servers are married.

Louis L.

Yelp
I love their beef noodle soup with their homemade chili oil. Service is great as well. The waiters and waitress come by multiple times to check

Taste B.

Yelp
Noodles had great texture and very satisfiyng. Got the beef noodle soup 1st day and recently ordered the Stir fried beef noodles. Booth were very tasty. Service both times was great the place was nice and clean. The Problem I have after crafting such good noodles and cooking such tasty food why do they disrespect thier own dishes by scimping so much on the portion of beef. Both the soup and the fried noodles only had 4 small pieces of beef. Complete the dishes for a home run add MORE BEEF: BRING IT HOME GUYS!!!!!!

April L.

Yelp
Amazing handmade noodle soup, so tasty and fresh. Will definitely be back again soon. We also tried the beef dumplings, which were tasty as well

Jenny C.

Yelp
Went for the soft opening so meal was comped and just had their signature noodle soup dish. Pretty solid -- noodles were quite tasty, portions sizes good, and service fast. Glad to see another decent restaurant open up in PB and happy to see more variety!

Otis R.

Yelp
Great service, Food was excellent, and they even helped me out when I was given the wrong thickness of noodle! Certainly will be coming back.

Darrell K.

Yelp
Delicious. Everything hand pulled noodles should be, delightfully chewy and extra long for good luck. The braised beef was a standout. The beef was soooo tender, the broth was rich and hearty with chunks of carrot and potato. Pacific Beach needed a place that dares to stand out from the usual beach fare.

Kristian R.

Yelp
Absolutely fantastic food and outstanding service! The noodles are simply out of this world--honestly the best I've ever tasted! You absolutely must give them a try if you're in the area!

Amanda T.

Yelp
this place is really good and the workers are so friendly. they don't rush you and they are super nice and explain everything well. i have been here 2x this week because its so good.

David L.

Yelp
Very good and authentic, you get to see them make the food. Soft opening and they were very generous with what they offered with their beef noodles. Would highly recommend

Anqi M.

Yelp
Soft opening! Noodles were perfectly cooked, not overdone or undercooked, soup base was amazing. Very authentic (as a Chinese) not many good noodle places in SD worth coming!!
