On the Grid : Silo coffee

"If you like good coffee, you should stop at Silo coffee. They take coffee very seriously and that's why it is incredibly delicious. I also highly recommend their breakfast, the poached eggs are so tasty! But be early or expect some time to wait, it's always crowded! It's just a few steps from Boxhagener Platz in the heart of Friedrichshain!" - Nadine Roßa

"Berlin's Newest Coffee Obsession in Friedrichshain Silo is one of the newest coffee spots in Berlin , opened by two Australians. The atmosphere inside is one of the best (and most spacious) and their beans are among Berlin 's finest. Filter coffee specials and blends are among the most popular choices."

9 Best Brunch Spots in Berlin | Condé Nast Traveler

"Even in the brunch-heavy neighborhood of Boxhagener Platz, Silo stands out, thanks to its flavorful Australian-influenced offerings. The baked eggs with chorizo are one of the cafe's most-loved items, with bits of egg peeking out from a blanket of rich tomato sauce, paired with grilled bread from Sironi, an incredible Milan-style bakery out of Kreuzberg's Markthalle Neun. Want something a bit healthier? Brekky greens, which have previously featured ingredients like broccolini, avocado, pickled beet, and wombok, will do the detox trick. And if you're looking for the perfect avocado toast, that brunch-time staple, you'll find it in its highest form here." - Krystin Arneson

Travelled across the city to brunch here. Small but lovely menu (allergens clearly marked). Great vibe. Friendly staff. The gluten free bread is incredible (nearly sent it back as I thought it must be ‘normal’!). Would thoroughly recommend ♥️

I had a fantastic experience at this café! The service was absolutely amazing—friendly, attentive, and made me feel right at home. I ordered the French toast, and it was easily one of the best I’ve ever had—delicious. The coffee was just as impressive: rich and smooth. Whether you're stopping in for a quick cup or a relaxed brunch, this place is a gem. Highly recommended!

Google
Super nice breakfast/brunch place. The food is excellent, prices are good, hosts are very nice. Overall a super nice place. It may be a little bit crowded if you come at high peak times. If you’re around stop by to grab something to eat. A+

The place is packed but obviously for a good reason. We got a table quite quickly and the waiter was incredibly gorgeous! The food was delicious (unfortunately didn’t catch a good photo) of this delicious beef sandwich. I gave 4 starts to the atmosphere because it was very hot inside.

I had brunch at Silo Coffee and hands down 🙌🏻 the food was really good, especially the bread! The coffee was great too, and the staff were super friendly and welcoming! ❤️ I recommend it for the food and vibe, especially for brunch. Just a quick tips: it’s better to reserve a table in advance, so you don’t have to wait 😊

Silo Coffee was such a gem! Although it only opens at 8:30am—which feels pretty late for a coffee shop—it seems to be a Berlin thing. I really enjoyed it here. The matcha was good—not the best I’ve ever had, but definitely better than most in Berlin (which seriously needs to sort out its matcha game… if it’s muddy brown, maybe just don’t serve it!). The avocado toast, though, was excellent. Really generous portion, super flavourful, and reasonably priced. The radish and Swiss cheese on top were great additions that made it feel a bit special. The staff weren’t overly warm or welcoming, and I had to initiate the conversation a bit—but that might just be part of the Berlin vibe? Hard to tell, especially since they were Aussie behind the counter. Either way, I’d still definitely recommend Silo for both the food and the matcha.

Google

Google
15€ for 2 eggs, thin slice of bread, smashed avocado with no flavour, 1 potato and half, dry bacon and definitely too much ketchup (served holding the dish with the nail in it). They brought one of the 2 back, after asking how it was, and we decided not to order something else but they put it in the bill anyways, with waitress hiding after bringing this receipt. Don’t get the hype for this places to be honest. Really wanted to try it but very disappointed also for the menu

Yelp
This place does not deserve the one-star reviews left by people who didn't even get to taste their food, which is actually really good. The sour dough bread they use is pleasantly tart, smashed avocado is fresh and citrusy and their house-made hot sauce is a flavor bomb. Highly recommended for weekdays when it is still busy but there are no lines.

Yelp
This place is just what was needed after a long trip. The avocado toast was fantastic and very fresh. Pancakes, eggs, and coffee was exceptional as well. The environment was lively and fun.

Yelp
Disorganized queueing system. (I understand that it js popular and busy but you must have a system). Long wait for the food and in mg case they gave our order to another table which shows the level of competence of the staff.

Yelp
Silo was a great host, they had amazing food and coffee. We got the Silo special and it's was the prefect breakfast for a Sunday morning.

Yelp
Outdoor ambiance was nice, waiting for our table for 40 minutes on a Sunday morning meanwhile drinking a Cappuccino took time but completely understandable. Once seated we ordered right away, within 5-8 minutes our food was served. "The Silo" which had perfectly poached eggs, bacon, roasted potatoes and fresh avocado was excellent. The kimchi mayo was a pleasant addition to the toast which was a bit tough. Luckily once you cut those perfect eggs with a beautiful orange color oozing out, it turned the bread into a lovely sponge to clean up your plate. "The Mushroom on Toast with Truffle" had my nose sniffing for that amazing aroma and had to steal a bite to try, I was not disappointed despite the quantity. All in all satisfied except for the service which was mediocre and nothing memorable... Pricing was a tad bit high but with organic and clean produce such as these, it is worth it. Give this place a try! Great spot to eat alone, with friends, family (not ideal for hungry children) or your partner/lover.

Yelp
Food never disappoints! And it comes out really fast - don't have to wait for the food - just to the seated! Coffee is not the best and sometimes over roasted, but the food is worth that. Some of the regular team are amazing, but there are some inconsistencies in service. Definitely worth the delicious food!

Yelp
Absolutely a spot that holds up what it promises. Wonderful coffee in a decent street with a cool crowd...
