This was my first time staying at Sentosa Island while visiting Singapore, which I've done close to two dozen times in my life.
I had to book two rooms across two hotels on that trip since it was last minute: one for my stepmom at the Moevenpick Sentosa, and when we couldn't find anything else reasonable in the area for my husband and I, we opted for the Siloso Beach Resort.
Next time, we'll be planning ahead and staying at Moevenpick Sentosa if we ever stay in Sentosa again. Or anywhere else, really.
:::: [ THE LOCATION ] ::::
This hotel is located on Sentosa, a small island with beaches made mostly of reclaimed sand bought from Indonesia and Malaysia. It offers golf courses, a number of hotels, and the Resorts World Sentosa, where the Universal Studios Singapore is located. Sentosa is rather removed from the rest of Singapore (about 20mins away from Orchard Road, which is a bit long when you consider the relative size of Singapore), and entrance into Sentosa costs S$2-S$6 depending on what time of day & day of the week, though most hotels on the island including the Sentosa Beach Resort do provide guests with a free pass to use for taxi rides into Sentosa.
This hotel is right on Siloso Beach, which is great if that's what you're there for. We, unfortunately, were not.
:::: [ THE AMENITIES ] ::::
This hotel is probably the dirtiest and most poorly maintained hotels I have ever stayed at in Singapore. While the bathrooms (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/siloso-beach-resort-singapore?select=cy8YjUkgs2wFbuBr9k8biw#cy8YjUkgs2wFbuBr9k8biw) in the hotel rooms are somewhat modern, the public spaces and actual sleeping areas are in dire need of both restoration and renovation.
Their best feature might just be their pool. It's rather large and has slides and waterfalls, which I'm sure is a major plus for families with children. Well, as long as you don't care about the floating bugs and pieces of bark floating around.
Breakfast is a combination of Asian and Western food, including porridge, noodles, rice, pastries and omelettes. In Asia, a larger selection of food at a hotel breakfast is pretty standard.
:::: [ THE ROOM ] ::::
The room felt bare and pretty small, even for Singaporean standards. The lack of light (both natural and artificial) probably didn't help too much, either. Some of the lamps were also a little crooked. I recall wondering whether it was the last guests' fault, or if it had been a while and housekeeping never noticed. The bed was squeaky and uncomfortable.
When we checked in, the bed sheets were crumpled (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/siloso-beach-resort-singapore?select=h6Io2sluOVxJox8_y-SSzw#i-ga2iqqMJdjC87BslwZ4w) and the chair had towels laid on top of it (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/siloso-beach-resort-singapore?select=h6Io2sluOVxJox8_y-SSzw#oF3ZGeXkl6GqyGvytgca1g). The bellman saw this when he helped us with our luggage, but didn't react as though this were at all unusual. I nicely asked a member of the housekeeping staff if the room had been cleaned for the day and whether or not the towels on the chair were dirty. They too didn't find anything in the room unusual.
