Silver Dart Lodge

We had a nice stay in the Silver Dart one bedroom McNeil House suites. Clean and spacious. Odd bathroom setup, but this was not a big issue. Very close to town, so able to walk everywhere. The front desk hosts were friendly and provided good info about the area. The little giftshop in the lobby was quite reasonably priced.|We did not eat here, so have no info about the restaurant.|We did not have kids with us, but it would be a wonderful family place. Lots of lawn, a playground and nice pool. Laundry available for guest uses was clean and well maintained. We were glad that we chose this place while in Baddeck.

October 4, 2025 - Travac Tour made a reservation at McCurdy's restaurant. There 4 steps going down to the dinning room area, glass windows on 3 sides bringing in natural light into the dinning area, seating 30 to 35 people or a little bit more. Each of the waitresses took a little bit longer to bring out all of the prepared dishes, hopping from table to table. For people with some mobility issues the Silver Dart Lodge in Baddeck, Nova Scotia is a good place to stay. Inside the building it gives you a nice cozy feeling with a bit of aviation feel to it. I think there is a handicap button to open the door to walk-in and the reception dies is straight ahead with nice friendly employees. I was pleased to see that this establishment has ramps on the main building, and a dinning area for people who may not be as mobile as other people are. The ramp on the left is carpeted (beside the reception desk) connects to the bottom floor, where you will find a nicely finished handicap washroom with light paint on the walls, 3 picture frames and 2 lamps above the sink making it feel cozy. There is a nice gift shop on the right side. > The is 1 thing that needs your attention... the 4 steps going down to the restaurant needs to be extended. Longer steps to avoid falling or put in a ramp in for the waitresses to safely go down to the dinning area.

We had an incredible stay at the Silver Dart Lodge before starting our trip around the Cabot Trail. We were greeted by extremely friendly and attentive staff who went above and beyond to help ensure our needs were met. The rooms were comfortable and clean with everything you may need in the room and on the property, which had absolutely stunning views. We enjoyed a walk through the trail at the back of the property before dinner at the restaurant on site. We stopped by the pool on our way and were pleasantly surprised how clean and warm it was even in mid September. At dinner the seafood chowder was amazing! We went back for breakfast in the morning and were lucky to have the same amazing server and delicious food with a view. This was hands down our favourite stay on our trip around Nova Scotia. We’ll definitely be back!

Mark checked us in and gave us all the info we needed for our one night stay. He was quick, efficient and very friendly. Although a bit dated, the McNeil House room 301 was very clean. If we’d been staying longer it would have been perfect to cook some meals and enjoy the local area too. We had a lovely view of the Bras D’Or Lake from the deck directly off our room. Shower was hot with good pressure. I didn’t like the smell of the toiletry products so used my own. Nice that they were provided though. Bed was super comfy. We didn’t use the outdoor heated pool but other were. It looked very clean. Location was perfect and you could walk to the local venues to enjoy the small town.

We received a warm welcome from the reception staff. Didn’t meet any other hotel staff. |Silver Dart Lodge is showing its age in a few ways. The exterior woodwork is beginning to peel and the floorboards on the balconies were occasionally worn and needed new paint. The screen doors onto the lake-facing balcony were wonderfully old fashioned but very noisy to open and close. The room itself looked tired and in need of some TLC. Wallpaper starting to peel, old fashioned bathroom decor, low ceiling that felt claustrophobic. There are not enough powerpoints in the room and they are all hard to reach, hiding behind furniture or down very low on the wall. There was no grab handle in the bathroom, making it harder to get in and out of the, fortunately, low silled bath. |We spent two nights and enjoyed the views from the balcony outside our room, second floor in the main lodge. The bed was comfortable and we were warm enough with enough quilts and pillows. There were enough towels and toiletries provided in the bathroom. Since we were out and about all day, we didn’t need much more than a good bed and a hot shower. |Recent reviews about the breakfast put us off so we ate elsewhere. |Overall, it is a pleasant enough place to stay.

Great place to stay if you're visiting Cape Breton. The lodge is spread out over a large area with a nice pool. Staff were very friendly and accommodating. We were at the lodge with a view of the water. The room was spacious with all the necessities. Plenty of parking space. There is a restaurant within the property and the town is a 20 minute walk. Highly recommend if you're in the area!

Staying here was a treat. Our room had the most beautiful view of the Bras d'Or, as do all the rooms. We were on the second floor of the main lodge with a shared balcony that was actually very private. We had a large, comfortable, king-size bed. The room was well-appointed and clean. |The Lodge is located close to the center of town in a quiet area. Parking was plentiful and secure. |The bar and restaurant were comfortable and welcoming. The staff was so friendly and pleasant. Particularly Jill and Jo, who managed the restaurant and bar with tireless humor, hard work, friendliness, and professionalism.

We booked this via Hotels.com and upon check in were advised that Expedia has put us in the East lodge bottom room not facing the lake. When we booked this was not advised as I would not have continued. The first clue should have been the dehumidifiers in the hallway and room. This was like staying in a basement that time had forgotten. My wife immediately smelled mustiness and did not sleep that night. |The laundry facility and swimming pool were the highlights of the property. Location to town is good but saw many other properties that we would have booked instead of this one. If you get a lodge on the hill it probably is better but beware the east lodge. |Cannot recommend this place at all.

This is one of the worst hotels we have stayed for our Maritime tour. If I could give 0 stars for this place, I would have. We were welcome by Donna (staff) and there's nothing welcoming about it. She hurriedly talks about the hotel info but it's more of a mundane task for her instead of being an enjoyable part of her job. Downsides: Accommodation -We were placed in a room that is dated, dingy and smells moldy/musty. -Floors have several stains in them (see pic) and the carpeted floors were uneven and makes squeaking/creaking noises when you walk on it. -We were informed that we have a waterfront view which is partly true. When you're in the lower level rooms, your view will be obstructed by trees /shrubs so it is very unlikely you will see a full view of the Bras d'Or Lake. -Outlet plugs were limited and situated in very hard to reach places. If you didn't bring a power bank, your electronic devices will be nowhere close to you. -Washroom is very small and taking a shower is very unpleasant since it's slower to drain and basically you're standing in water. Dining -Place is very remote, not a lot of places to dine and no shops close by. It will take you more than 20 mins to walk to the nearest restaurant and 5 to 10 mins by car. -That left you with no choice but to dine in their restaurant called McCurdy Dining Room that has limited choice of menus. Food is mediocre and very expensive for a rural place. Seafood chowder is watered down, not a lot of seafood in it and a little bit spicy. Their Seafood Pasta is bland and has more noodles than sauce/seafood. Same goes with their Chicken Parmesan Pasta. You also have to wait for a long time for your food as they're understaff and trying to accommodate more customers that they can handle. -Breakfast was included when we booked our room. It's a buffet style and you get the basic breakfast of eggs, sausage, toast, etc. Upside: Nothing good about this hotel and wouldn't even recommend this to my worst enemy!

We headed to the eastern coast of the Canada for the first time ever this summer. It was a fabulous trip, and a highlight of it was visiting Cape Breton and Baddeck. We were lucky enough to stay at the Silver Dart Lodge in Cape Breton. What a wonderful location. Overlooking the the lake, and each room has a small patio and chairs to sit and enjoy the views. The folks at this lodge were so friendly and helpful as well. East coast friendliness is definitely evident here! :) Beds were comfy and rooms were well appointed. Separate sink area from the shower/toilet room. Ample closet space. 2 comfy chairs to watch a flat panel tv and free wifi. This hotel also has a great dining room and is not far from downtown Baddeck and other attractions like the Alexander Graham Bell museum.

We stayed at this resort for 2 nights and it was amazing. We had two rooms on the West Lodge. If I am not wrong, all rooms have a lake view. The restaurant is amazing for breakfast and other meals. There are free bikes available to explore the resort. We did not have enough time to go into the heated pool.

Touring Nova Scotia in June and ended up staying the night in Baddeck. All I have to say is what an incredible place to stay. The view is incredible, the staff is friendly and helpful, and the food was fantastic!

Chelsea and Marlene made our stay unforgettable. We were in a car accident and they went over and above to help make us comfortable. They were so generous and the room was great. A cozy king bed, a great waterfront balcony, a delicious bottle of wine and a hearty breakfast! We had such a awful day but they made it so much better. We were so grateful. Thank you ladies! Highly recommend this hotel!

We stayed in one of the nice duplex cabins in the back of the property. These were quiet, updated, and had comfortable beds. Plenty of room to move around in, plus a handy and spotless kitchenette. Be sure to walk down to the water via the short trail across the street. There's a nice gazebo down there, a tiny dock, and a green lawn that's perfect for a picnic.
