We had the best family trip to Silver Falls State Park, and I can honestly say it’s such a fun, kid-friendly spot.
The park is known for the famous Trail of Ten Falls, and seeing all ten waterfalls in one place feels pretty magical. We chose the South Falls section (there’s both a north and south side), and I’m really glad we did. The South side felt much more manageable for the kids — still adventurous, but not overwhelming.
One thing I’d definitely recommend: wear tennis shoes or hiking shoes. We saw a few people trying to do the trail in flip-flops, and they were struggling once the path started climbing and turned into stairs. Some parts get steep, and good shoes make a big difference. Some hiking shoes or tennis shoes will do well. Make sure they have traction, if you want to do the longer trails.
We stayed in one of the cabins, and they even have handicap-accessible options. Cabin #7 was perfect for us because it’s closest to the bathrooms and showers — which, trust me, matters a lot when someone has to go in the middle of the night and you don’t want to trek through the dark. Also, there are raccoons around, so make sure you lock up your food and anything scented.
We went in June and had an amazing time, but if I did it again, I’d probably choose April or May. The cabin was a little warm at night — not a dealbreaker, just a personal preference.
Overall, it was such a special trip. Waterfalls, fresh air, happy kids — we made the best memories there. 🌲
