How to Plan a Ski Trip to Waterville Valley, New Hampshire

"A cozy, alpine-style inn a short drive from the slopes that emphasizes a warm, welcoming atmosphere with complimentary breakfast, afternoon tea, and a fireside lounge—an ideal, slightly quieter choice for couples or small groups seeking relaxed, homey accommodations." - Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca Stacey Leasca is an award-winning journalist and co-founder of Be a Travel Writer, an online course for the next generation of travel journalists. My partner and I stayed here on our way to Franconia Notch and it was the most delightful stay. The beds were very comfortable, our room was nicely decorated, the tea selection was exceptional and the service was supreme. The breakfast was delicious, I’m still dreaming of the scones. I cannot wait to return to this inn.

The room was dated, a lot of the breakfast food was cold, location was within walking distance of everything. We got charged a ridiculous amount for taxes and fees on top of the high room charge. They also would not give the discounted rate for the wedding. I would choose another place in the area over here in the future.

Positive: The hotel is comfortable, convenient and has multiple choices for breakfast options. Negative: The door needed to be forced to latch (rm 128). Also, the dining room opened late on Sunday, thankfully my event started later in Sunday than it had on Saturday.

We are staying here right now. We booked because there were NYE fireworks in the town. After the fireworks, we came back and the room key wasn’t working. There was no longer an attendant at the front desk, just a number to call. We called a dozen times as well as another number for the location and no answer. My husband has hotel experience, reached into the desk area and reprogrammed our key. If he didn’t, we’d be sleeping in our car tonight.

Stayed here for 3 nights with a tour group. This property is an old Best Western Hotel and it doesn’t appear to have had many improvements since the new name change. It is a convenient location if you are there to ski. If not, it is very inconveniently located 10 miles off I-93. The rooms are nothing more than a standard motel room. The bathroom is extremely small with an old style shower curtain versus new glass doors. The towels are very low quality as are the bathroom amenities. The soap bar is literally like a Catholic host. The rug had worn areas and the walls need a good new paint job. There are no refrigerators in the rooms; merely a community fridge on the 3rd floor. The only ice machine is on the 1st floor. The positive is that I did find the bedding to be very comfortable. Unfortunately, I need more than a good bed to want me to ever return. I travel to Vermont/New Hampshire 6-8 times per year and there are so many other great options. Do your research!

I stayed three nights here during a recent hiking trip. The staff were all friendly and professional. The rooms are a little dated, but clean and well kept. I was impressed with the breakfast, which was more than a standard continental and had at least two proteins every day. Overall not a destination in and of itself, but a solid value for lodging in Waterville Valley.

We went here for a hockey tournament and they were fabulous. It was cozy and it was just what we wanted for our team to bond. The breakfast was good along with local mad river coffee. They have a nice fire place to warm up in front of. The 3rd level had another seating area as well so families or groups could spread out

Rooms were clean, hotel is safe and makes you feel safe. The hotel is a little dated but you get your money’s worth! At the time of our stay we got a freedom pass for the resort, when we booked our hotel, that was awesome and worth at least $100 due to the free rentals and activities! My largest complaint is I wish the doors were a little thicker, there was decent noise transmission from the hallway. Over all, we got our money’s worth

Yelp
If you are looking for a comfortable nights sleep after a day of hiking or skiing, DO NOT stay here! I will start by saying the area where the hotel is located is beautiful and the lobby area was lovely and cozy. We never met any of the staff during our stay as we didn't check in until 12AM as we attended the Scottish Festival in Lincoln all day snd evening, and there was no one at the desk when we checked out at 11 AM. Breakfast is over very early at 9 AM. We felt that is too early for breakfast to be over as we didnt get to sleep until 1 am so we missed it. The room was large, clean, but outdated and had no mini fridge for the leftovers we had so we had to discard them. Our biggest issue were the beds. When I say they were the cheapest, most uncomfortable beds I have ever slept in I'm not exaggerating. It felt like a thin layer of cardboard over metal springs. When I first laid down I couldnt believe how uncomfortable it was. I could feel metal springs poking me all over my body. The floor would have been more comfortable! We tossed and turned all night and got a horrible sleep and woke up exhausted, sore and in pain. For $200 a night, it's not worth it to stay here! Please purchase new mattresses! At the very least if you are too cheap to do that, buy a thick, memory foam mattress topper!

Yelp
* Clean Comfortable Rooms! * Amazing, Friendly and Accommodating Staff! * Short ride to mountain, restaurants and shops! * 4:30 Wine and Cheese was splendid

Yelp
Four days before planned arrival, we had to cancel a two night reservation we had made for a relative because of newly issued state COVID travel restrictions to NH. I asked for a credit for a future stay (not a refund) but was told we would be charged for the first night. Disappointing given the circumstances. · Reply · 1m

Yelp
Very clean hotel with friendly staff, 3 adorable cats, and the best continental breakfast I've ever had! Minus one star because the beds were not comfortable, but I heard they will be replacing mattresses soon. If this is the case I will definitely go back for the next time I ski at Waterville valley.

Yelp
Not sure if this is still a Best Western but it was a very great place to stay! Rooms were clean, hotel clean, staff very very nice. Also, it had a wonderful real breakfast buffet that could accommodate any diet needs. The chef offered to make eggs fresh if we didn't want the crustless quiche. Super close to everything to Town Square. They gave us a Freedom pass that gave discounts/free activities which we really enjoyed. I went through booking.com but if I had go through the Waterville Valley we may have gotten a few more things for the same price. Very very happy with our choice and we would go back. Just FYI- NH charges a 15% resort surtax over regular 9% tax.

Yelp
Such a great place! Very clean, and all of the staff are very nice and helpful. They have 3 friendly cats roaming around, which is fun. One is Logan, the fattest cat ever. So cute. There is a wine and cheese reception which is very nice. My husband and I enjoyed that by the cozy fire and met some very nice people. Breakfast in the morning is included and much, much more than a continental breakfast. Delish. And the view from the dining room is spectacular! It's very close to Waterville mountain and the village and there is a place to store your skis. We loved it and will definitely be back!

Yelp
This is the perfect spot for a fall weekend getaway in the White Mountains. The rooms are adequate and the beds very firm. The wine and cheese hour and gourmet breakfast are a nice touch! My favorite part about the Silver Fox Inn was the free mountain bike rental. This was a great way to explore the trails and downtown. The service and extra touches made this place feel more like a Best Western Plus.

Yelp
We had a very comfortable and homey stay here. The staff were warm and friendly, the room was cozy, and the homemade breakfast and afternoon wine and cheese reception were delightful. In the common areas, there were board games and books that guests could borrow. There were also a few cats that wandered around the hotel. We particularly enjoyed warming up by the fireplace in the evening and sitting inside and seeing the beautiful views of the mountains in the morning. This is a phenomenal place to stay.

Yelp
Wonderful, friendly service. The whole place was beautiful and cozy, complete with a fat car curled up in front of a fireplace. Great homemade breakfast included with outdoor seating available on a large deck. Check out the coyote grill within walking distance across the street, it was fantastic as well!

Yelp
Excellent hotel experience and customer service. It's essentially a chain hotel that's run with a bed and breakfast approach. People who run this hotel cook up a gourmet breakfast and overall are very personable to hotel guests. There is also wine and cheese with other tasty treats at night. Rooms are clean and tidy. The hotel itself is really cozy. It has several large areas: one is for reading and has a fireplace, another area has a big tv. My family and my experience has been great at this hotel. I highly recommend it.
