I camped at Silver Lake State Park this past summer and it was delightful! We camped in the part of the campground that is on the opposite side of the road from Silver Lake and the campground spots were a bit smaller than we were accustomed to at other State Parks, but understand that it's probably because this park is one of the more popular, highly trafficked ones given all the activities that can be done here!
There were tons of people here with their ATVs/ORVs to climb the dunes, which was something unique! There's a series of small town shops around the Silver Lake area that you can patron at if you want to stay close. Overall, it's a great spot to come to for day trips, but I don't think that I'd ever camp here again. Instead, I'd probably look for a cute AirBNB or something nearby to stay at for a little more space to vibe, but visit the state park for the dunes and hikes! I'd also probably visit here in a non-summer month as well so it's not as many people because the beaches we went to were definitely chock full of people, so much so that we decided to go to a different part of Silver Lake State Park (not the campground area) to lay out by the lake.
We didn't try to summit too many of the dunes this time, especially given the hot weather, but know that there's acres upon acres still left to be explored!
