Stayed here 10 years ago, and the room I got looked very much the worse for the years. My traveling companions got a lovely room upstairs, while mine, an ADA room on the first floor (first problem, we were promised they would try to give us adjoining rooms, but when we checked in were told that isn't possible with ADA rooms, which are all clustered together at the end of the hall.) was dreadful. Filthy looking carpet, CRT tv which felt like I was looking through a screen door, ripped and shabby curtains. Room had a distinct pet odor. Two tiny pillows on the bed, and one dusty comforter/bedspread in the closet. There was a huge unscrewed bolt hanging out of the headboard, which snagged my hand more than once. We were told there was a fridge and microwave per room but this is not true-neither were in my room. Once we checked in we were told there was a communal fridge upstairs. The 'snack machines' were locked up at 9:30 pm, as was the downstairs ice machine. Leaving the room to go upstairs for ice was NOT comfortable, as all the empty rooms were left ajar, and sketchy people were entering through the side door all night (I assume to use said rooms) and there is NO front desk service past 9:30. Given that there are few food choices open for breakfast in town, the breakfast choices were poor.
The bathroom was immaculate, the bed comfortable (and thankfully NOT so high I needed to vault in) and the housekeeping staff very helpful and friendly. The front desk person was super rude to my nephew, yet polite and solicitous to my niece. Requests to the desk were usually handled quickly and politely, however, it felt very much like they had told us one thing on the phone, and the reality was revealed only when pressed.
Bottom line...not safe, poor communication (lack of truth), poor upkeep of the room, really poor amenities, which are important in a town which locks down at dark!
