12 Best Ski Resorts in Colorado

"A destination for backcountry purists, this mountain forgoes crowded lifts and groomed runs in favor of a single-lift, hike-after-you-ride experience with guided and unguided options; heli-skiing single-run and full-day packages expand access to extensive alpine terrain. The environment demands avalanche gear for all participants, and the nearby town's coffee shop and local brewery provide straightforward breakfast and après-ski options like burritos, tacos, pizza and desserts." - Brandon Perlman Brandon Perlman Brandon Perlman (also known as Mr. Luxury Ski) is one of the world’s foremost experts on luxury travel, specifically the upper echelons of ski, alpine culture, and outdoor lifestyle. A Guide to Silverton, Colorado

"The opposite of Kendall Mountain is Silverton Mountain, an extreme-skiier’s paradise with both guided and unguided skiing and snowboarding. A chairlift transports riders to the ridge, and from there, it’s either a visit to the helicopter pad for heliskiing and boarding, or a hike to a secret stash of powder — of which there is no shortage. The mountain has become so popular that they're in the process of adding a second chairlift, which they hope will start running sometime this coming winter." - Travel + Leisure Editors

Not much to look at from the base. Muddy parking along the road. An old double lift, a school bus converted into a rental shop. A barely functioning school bus shuttle.. But the terrain from the top of the lift is phenomenal! And the heli skiing is a must-do.. What a ride!

Wow! What an amazing place. Skiing in its purest and most difficult form. Any superlative you can think of applies. Big Mountain. All Backcountry. No frills. Mandatory training before you even get on the one single old 2 person chairlift. They don’t even rate the runs. They start at Double Black EX and go up from there. Want bigger? Hop on a heli for a run or 6. Every run involves a hike ranging from 10 minutes to a 90 minute slog. The Mecca of skiing. 🎿

Absolutely amazing experience, the guides are top notch and the helicopter pilots are absolutely professionals! The slopes are steep and the pow was deep! Love this unique place 😍

Roof is the man! Roof was our guide for two days and 3 heli drops. We saw way more terrain than we ever could have on our own. Roof put in extra work to make sure wind didn’t interfere with our heli experience. Roof is one of the people giving Silverton its unique character. Can’t wait to shred with him again next year!

Rad place! Extreme terrain! Not for learners or the faint at heart. You have to hike and work for your turns. Awesome!

I've been multiple times and will continue visiting in the future. This is not your typical ski resort experience. Make sure you're in good shape if you want to get your money's worth. Riding in the helicopter is novel. The ticket tent can be a bit of a cluster in the morning, so sign your waivers ahead of time.

Great guides. Really steep terrain, it's not for beginners. Tons of fun and adventure. Be ready to hike at 12k feet, not too much hiking, but it's awesome. It's very local and like ski areas used to be 30 years ago. They do an amazing job.

Unreal, unforgettable skiing. I will remember this place for the rest of my life. Spent two days skiing the best untracked powder. Even with days old snow, we found amazing glade and bowl skiing. Not for the faint of heart. Respect the mountain, respect your own skills and only do what you are comfortable with. This place is no joke.
