**This review is only about the customer service at the Newbury Street store, and not about the quality of the glassware or anything else.**
The customer service at the Newbury Street location was so bad, that I'm compelled to leave a Google review about a glassware store. For context, I've worked retail jobs in suburban malls during the holiday season, so I think I have a decent understanding of just how stressful and difficult it can be. That said, this was probably the worst customer service I've experienced at any business in over a decade. I stopped by late morning on a weekday and was the second customer in the store. There were three staff members visible, only one of whom appeared busy, ringing up the only other customer. I approached one of the staff, who was standing in the middle of the store, empty-handed, not walking anywhere, and therefore presumably not too busy, and asked if they had a particular ornament in stock. The staff member pointed to the back of the store, saying only, "Our ornaments are back there," and then walked away from me behind the registers, where she began socializing with the non-busy staff member. After having reviewed the ornaments, I went up to the registers (where all the staff were) to ask whether there was any additional stock not being displayed. The two younger staff members actively ignored me, at first looking at me, and then looking away, chatting about their college classes and then looking everywhere but in my direction. I had to wait until the third staff, who I think was the manager, finished checking out the other customer. At least this staff member answered my question, but was apparently annoyed that i might need any additional assistance. I am a clean cut, middle-aged, white collar professional who is fortunate enough to have the means to buy overpriced glassware and also maintain an appearance that I can do so. In other words, I look like the kind of person able and willing to buy an $80 ornament. However, I was treated by the staff at this store as if I was an entirely unwelcome loiterer who didn't belong. Ultimately, my age, attire, income, or other physical attributes shouldn't have any affect on how I am treated, as I was a paying customer. Unfortunately, if these staff are a representation of the company, I will likely never buy anything from Simon Pierce again.
