I love pies. I celebrate pie day. And British pie week. I think pie is one of the greatest gifts Britain has ever given me.
So I was quite happy to find Simon the Pieman. I will even disregard the fact that it sells more cakes than pies (I don't like cakes but if you're into sweet things this is probably a good place to go!).
First, it's quite a lovely little restaurant/tea room. They even have a fireplace! It's just near the church, very good place to stop for lunch if you're visiting Rye. Plus it's fairly cheap. Pies are £6.95 if I remember correctly, then add £2 for chips or £3 for salad (they don't kind with the salad, it's like tomatoes and salad and corn and peppers and alfalfla if I am right about what alfalfa actually is). They serve local beers and good smoothies (and also orangeade but it's not homemade and I do not recommend it AT ALL, it's just some kind of Fanta and it made me sad).
We had fish pie (delish, with fresh fish and some leeks inside I think! Yum!) and chicken-bacon-mushroom pie with a really crunchy pastry.
Not the most amazing food I've ever had but very good value for money, charming place and good flavours!
