Best Beaches in Key West, Florida

"To find Simonton Street Beach, head to the end of the street of the same name, on Key West’s Gulf of Mexico side. People set off on fishing and island-hopping day trips from here, rolling their boats down ramps and into the turquoise waters. There’s a beach concession stand that rents chairs and umbrellas should you wish to spend time ashore sunbathing." - Travel + Leisure Editors

I absolutely love coming here to swim and watch and sunset. It’s such a cool little spot to chill and right next to Lagerheads which is great!

Jenny Hansen

Google
It's a very small beach and I definitely wouldn't want to visit in midday with so many people there. We came for a swim right after sunrise and had the beach to ourselves. As others have mentioned, the water is very clear and the sand is quite nice. The swimming was fantastic. I'd recommend a visit in the early morning or evening, when it isn't crowded.

Google
Small easy beach access. Plenty of chairs free to use, the lounge chairs are $15 for entire day. The “hut” is Lagerheads, they have broad menu with food and drinks. Sometimes there is live music. A bit crowded when cruise ships are docked nearby.

Perfect beach to enjoy the clear water with family! The sunset is gorgeous. My daughter loved it

Google
Water and beach were both very crowded. Fortunately there was a little bar with beverages and snacks. Also the water was nice and cool. It was walking distance from the cruise. It was very nice to be able to get off the cruise and have a quick dip in the water though.

Beautiful creature how come I didn’t run into you sooner? Great tiny beach, water is beautiful. Lagerheads Bar and Ross the Bartender got your needs. Feels a world apart from Duval Street and sometimes, that’s all one needs.

Great cozy little beach perfect to catch the sunset from.

Yelp
When you visit Key West don't even put so much effort trying to figure out which beach to visit and just come here! This beach is located in a very convenient place. Its literally in the heart of the island so you can plan your day doing something before or after without driving far or you can just simply walk anywhere. They also have some great option for snacks, food and drink and you can stay here to watch the sunset. Thats what we did and really had a fun times!

Yelp
A curiously small beach worth having a looksea. It's definitely not the swaths of beach you'll find on the other side of the island but it's a nice beach spot in the heart of downtown. Serviced by Loggerheads so there's chairs and umbrellas and libations on offer. They also have counter seafood eats and have been super friendly, helpful, and nice whenever we've stopped in. Imagine you could get some pretty good beachie sunset shots here.

Yelp
Our first time at this beach. Has lounge chairs, $10 for the day, about 30 of them, comes w/ umbrella and a plastic table. Also has tables and chairs that are free. Nice area to swim and also a concrete pier. A beach bar & cafe is conveniently there with very reasonable prices on both food and drink! Many cocktails, some frozen are 8.50. Beers are also 8.50

Yelp
Key West does not have great beaches but this has to be the best beach with decent sand and the clearest water in Key West. However, that really doesn't say much: it is super short and narrow, right by the Hyatt Hotel and other establishments, so it lacks privacy. The poor excuse for a beach to lounge on is embarrassingly small. There's Lagerheads bar right beside the beach to get your drinks at. There's a paid parking lot nearby.

Yelp
Shhhh this is a secret and I will share with you because you are reading it on Yelp. When you are in Key West and are Downtown where's the beach? So you have to get back in your car and drive to the other side of the island right? No this hidden gem is right in Downtown! Seems last week when I was in Key West for the day the secret got out. There is a very small parking lot next to it or find street parking $$. I parked on the street and the master meter gets $4. an hour in the Downtown area. So you head on over to the concession stand get a drink and a snack. You can rent chairs here too! Note if you are actually going to go in the water wear sand shoes it tends to be very rocky here as well as you don't know what some has unfortunately dumped here. Enough said, this is one of my favorite stops in Key West to rest and unwind.

Yelp
Not sure if this little tiny strip of sand qualifies as a beach. Seriously, I think it can only hold about 30 people. From Mallory Square you walk down all the way to the end of Simonton and you will end here. There is a dock and a small bar that rents out beach chairs for 10 bucks. Was kind of disappointed as soon as I we got here. Sure there is metered parking but not a lot. Water wasn't all that clear either. Most of the people that were there weren't even swimming. More like wading. So if you come here, just hang out for a bit and take some pictures then get on your merry way. Yelp 2019 Review #20 761 overall

Yelp
This beach runs parallel to Duval Street, north end of Simonton Street and is rather a small beach with tons of small boat docks. I wouldn't come here to dip in the water or sun bathe but rather pay a visit if you want to sunset watch. There's a small dock and I see people fishing now and then and it's really just a romantic scenic view at night to observe the horizon. Parking is very limited.

Yelp
There's not a lot of beach option in Key West, cleanliness and water murkiness are varied. This is a small beach in a busy area for shopping, eating, walking and boating.

Yelp
This gulf side beach is surely one of key west's finest hidden gems. This beach has its own pier, soft, white sand, & a groovy beach hut for drinks and food. A must see during the sunset!

Yelp
Nice little beach that was a short walk from our hotel. Really pretty and clean, white sand and clear blue water. We went around 11 am on Tuesday and there was no one there. Lots of water front lounge chairs that can be rented for $10. I would give this beach more stars but it's just soooooo small, I can't imaging what a busy time here would look like, but I definitely recommend checking it out if you have the time.

Yelp
This is not what I picture when the word beach is used. This is an ultra tiny piece of sand at the end of a street. I have come down here to watch the boat races before, and it is a good spot to do that. I would not choose to beach here, there are better options in town.

Yelp
My husband and I visited here yesterday for the first time and loved it. It was a nice change from the coral rock landscape of Fort Zach. We scoped out Higgs Beach first earlier in the morning, and it far outweighed the venue with the grassy wash and darker water washed ashore from the Atlantic that Higgs had. Since her grand opening about a year and a half ago, this quaint little beach has developed a nice reputation around town. This is a modest beach (about 80 feet wide), with a small boat launch to the right of the pier. The beach faces towards the western gulf side providing a nice view of water adventure groups, yachts and small water craft heading in and out of the harbor. WHAT YOU GET - - Lounge chairs with umbrellas available for rent. $20 gets you two chairs and an umbrella - Casual round tables and seating - You can bring your own sand chairs and sit along the water - Food, beer, daiquiris, and other libations for sale at the accompanying Lagerheads beach bar on premises - Bathrooms and changing rooms - Metered Car Parking - get there before 11am to ensure a spot - Scooter and bicycle parking available - Less coral rock and more sand than Fort Zach - Clean, well maintained beach area - Open in the early evening to catch a glimpse of the sunset - Kids can fish off the pier (within reason) There is a buoy chain in the water designated for children, though adults are able to swim passed that as long as you stay inside of the channel marker. OVERALL - A terrific little beach. We can't wait to visit here again. LOCALS - No discounts on beach chairs. Ask at Lagerheads for food and beverage discounts. Local ID required.

Yelp
What a gem! I found out about this place from locals. Key West don't have traditional beaches. The sand is brought in from the Bahamas. Beware it's a bit rocky when you walk in the water but that's the only down fall. You can rent chaise from Lagerheads Beach Bar for $10 and get drinks and snacks. Other beaches in a key West sometimes has a sulfur smell and tons of seaweed but not this place. Love it here!

Yelp
The beach is tiny but clean, BE CAREFUL with beach shack renting out chairs on the beach - they sell beach chair use for $10/day but have no problem re-selling your chair if you look away without any remorse.

Yelp
such a cute place to cool off! perfect place to grab a drink at the beach bar, which is right on the shore! you can take a dip and jump off of the little board walk or sit on the each of the bridge and watch the sunset as the boats drive off

Yelp
Great small beach. Water was clear and beautiful. It was a little rocky, so some may want water shoes! Lagerheads is a little booze shack with food & a bathroom. Everything you need!

Love S.

Yelp
Really really tiny beach not worth going to. The write ups on it are very misleading. This part of Key West isn't the best for beaching - need to go to the other side. This beach is roped off. Love the white sand. Be super careful to avoid sunburn.
