We selected Simpatica to cater our wedding because of their reputation. Everyone told us we would be in good hands if we chose them, so we decided to pay a premium and go with a caterer that we can trust. Brett, the events director, was professional and prompt in our communications. Our concern was planning an outdoor reception in a park without a kitchen, but Brett said he had worked this location before so we didn't anticipate any problems. At our first site visit, Brett realized that they had mistakened our site with another site at the venue, and that our site lacked the adequate electric and water hook-ups, but they ended up accommodating us. Little did we know that we would be punished for that.
After that point, Brett became increasingly passive aggressive. In many conversations I felt as if I was inconveniencing him. We didn't have a choice but to have them coordinate our rentals through The Party Place, which charged us exorbitant fees on top of the 25% rental handling fee we paid Simpatica (just to have them mishandle our rentals). I never felt that Brett advocated for us in finding cost effective solutions -- to be frank, he simply did not care about our wedding or that we were handing him our hard earned savings. By the end, our bill was almost twice the estimate.
After the event, my wedding coordinator informed me that several items on the rental order either wasn't delivered, or the wrong product was delivered, and that there were items on the rental list that we didn't even need. I brought this up to Brett and he admitted that he made errors along with a list of excuses on why he made those errors, but we still had to pay for them.
I was by no means a difficult client. I made changes to our menu a few times but nothing unreasonable. I repeatedly caught mistakes on the rental order and had to keep watch on items and always found errors, but I was always polite even with the growing costs and attitude. I'm glad that other people had such a great experience working with them and I don't understand why we didn't deserve the same treatment. I almost feel like we were discriminated against in some way. The entire experience put a damper on what was supposed to be a happy time.
