Travel Guide to Perugia, Italy

"A grand, late-19th-century hotel that feels like a time capsule with antique-filled rooms and oil paintings; highlights include a formal wood-paneled restaurant (complete with a vintage telephone booth) and an indoor pool with a glass floor that reveals Etruscan ruins beneath the property." - Laura Itzkowitz Laura Itzkowitz Laura Itzkowitz is a writer and editor based in Rome. We stayed here for 4 days in October. The room we had was upgraded to a suite so was really good. Fantastic views over Perugia and the surrounding countryside. The service in the hotel was excellent as was the food we had. The staff were really helpful at all times. Thank you all.

I had to change rooms twice to get to something acceptable. 1st room had the toilet unit ripped out from the wall. 2nd room, the air-conditioning wasn't working. The 3rd room was much smaller but at least everything was working. Quite disappointing for a 5* hotel.

This was the best possible experience we could have asked for. The hotel looks as nice in person as in the pics, the staff is super friendly and helpful, and the cuisine is outstanding! A perfect location to travel around Umbria or simply explore Perugia!|We look forward to going back!

This hotel is in a beautiful location but it feels a bit run down. When we were there it was very hot and the air conditioning was not working well. One of our rooms had a musty smell in it. ||The front desk was hit or miss. They had two gentlemen working there that were fantastic ( one very tall), but the others were just ok, and seemed somewhat uninterested in helping out.||The breakfast buffet was ok, the room was very nice and the staff friendly. ||The location is great for exploring the historical part of Perugia.

We stayed at Hotel Brufani in Perugia for 10 days. The location is truly beautiful—right in front of the main piazza in an historic building. However, this property falls far short of what you would expect from a 5-star luxury hotel, especially when compared to international standards such as Belmond or similar establishments. The overall feeling as soon as you enter is that the hotel has been left behind. The furniture and interiors are old, worn, and not properly maintained. Cleanliness is questionable, and you can sense the effort to cut costs. Despite being high season, the rooftop bar—one of the most beautiful features of the hotel—was always closed, and so was the main restaurant inside. This gave the hotel an abandoned atmosphere, with only the outdoor bar operating. The pool is nice, but the spa facilities are very disappointing. The sauna and Turkish bath are outdated, almost broken, and smell unpleasant. The gym is frankly unacceptable for a hotel of this category: just five machines, three of which are broken, all crammed into a ridiculously small space. Breakfast was completely unacceptable—closer to what you’d expect from a three-star hotel in Italy rather than a 5-star luxury property. As for the staff, with the exception of one person who was truly helpful and professional, the rest honestly seemed lost and unprepared, as if they had no idea what it means to work in a luxury hotel. In summary: a fantastic location and some potential, but very far away from true 5-star luxury standards. The management urgently needs to invest in proper maintenance, staff training, and services to bring this hotel back to life. My suggestion: remove the "5 star L" classification to this hotel, give it 4 star and guest will arrive with the right expectations without being disappointed.

We stayed here four nights. Perugia is magical and this hotel is the perfect location. The staff was wonderful, and accommodating. Breakfast was also outstanding. All in all a perfect hotel for all of our needs.

I lived in Perugia a long time ago so I loved returning and staying at this beautiful hotel that probably has the best views of any albergo in centro storico.||The suite was amazing but did have a few minor maintenance problems but when you can step right out on Corso Vanucci, get a fine breakfast, and people in the reception are kind, I’m not going to complain about anything!
