Travel Guide to Perugia, Italy

"A grand, late-19th-century hotel that feels like a time capsule with antique-filled rooms and oil paintings; highlights include a formal wood-paneled restaurant (complete with a vintage telephone booth) and an indoor pool with a glass floor that reveals Etruscan ruins beneath the property." - Laura Itzkowitz Laura Itzkowitz Laura Itzkowitz is a writer and editor based in Rome. This hotel is in a beautiful location but it feels a bit run down. When we were there it was very hot and the air conditioning was not working well. One of our rooms had a musty smell in it. ||The front desk was hit or miss. They had two gentlemen working there that were fantastic ( one very tall), but the others were just ok, and seemed somewhat uninterested in helping out.||The breakfast buffet was ok, the room was very nice and the staff friendly. ||The location is great for exploring the historical part of Perugia.

We stayed at Hotel Brufani in Perugia for 10 days. The location is truly beautiful—right in front of the main piazza in an historic building. However, this property falls far short of what you would expect from a 5-star luxury hotel, especially when compared to international standards such as Belmond or similar establishments. The overall feeling as soon as you enter is that the hotel has been left behind. The furniture and interiors are old, worn, and not properly maintained. Cleanliness is questionable, and you can sense the effort to cut costs. Despite being high season, the rooftop bar—one of the most beautiful features of the hotel—was always closed, and so was the main restaurant inside. This gave the hotel an abandoned atmosphere, with only the outdoor bar operating. The pool is nice, but the spa facilities are very disappointing. The sauna and Turkish bath are outdated, almost broken, and smell unpleasant. The gym is frankly unacceptable for a hotel of this category: just five machines, three of which are broken, all crammed into a ridiculously small space. Breakfast was completely unacceptable—closer to what you’d expect from a three-star hotel in Italy rather than a 5-star luxury property. As for the staff, with the exception of one person who was truly helpful and professional, the rest honestly seemed lost and unprepared, as if they had no idea what it means to work in a luxury hotel. In summary: a fantastic location and some potential, but very far away from true 5-star luxury standards. The management urgently needs to invest in proper maintenance, staff training, and services to bring this hotel back to life. My suggestion: remove the "5 star L" classification to this hotel, give it 4 star and guest will arrive with the right expectations without being disappointed.

Was there during Umbria Jazz 2025. Classy elegance with British old world flavour, please keep preserving this jewel of high-end hotellerie! Service is courteous effective easy, informal, breakfast plentyful and delicious, and the setting is such that you will feel loke a movie star. Room spacious, clean, spectacular views over the roofs, the valley, the hills. Will gladly come back.

We can’t say enough about this lovely hotel. It is elegant in an old world way. Our suite was very comfortable and in keeping with the old world charm. When we arrived from Boston, we were very tired. Our room wasn’t ready, but knowing how tired we were, they offered us a room to rest in until ours was ready - that is way beyond any hotel experience we’ve had. That type of service extended throughout our stay. That night we decided to stay put and eat dinner in their gorgeous dining room. The entire experience, including the service, food, and the pace, was incredible. One of the best restaurants we have ever eaten in. So if you want to visit Umbria, which we absolutely loved and heartily recommend, you would be wise to stay at this impressive 5-star hotel.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Had a wonderful stay at SINA Brufani. The room was spacious, and the balcony offered breathtaking views over the rooftops and towers of Perugia—magical by day or night. The underground pool, framed by ancient stone arches, felt like a hidden spa carved into history—elegant, peaceful, and memorable. The only reason I’m not giving a full 5 stars is the breakfast selection, which could use more variety. That said, the breakfast service team was truly outstanding—warm, attentive, and full of kindness each morning. Also worth a shoutout: the front desk staff was top notch—professional, helpful, and always ready with a smile. Overall, a great experience with standout service, beautiful design, and unforgettable views. Would absolutely return. 📸 I post quiet corners and cultural highlights like this one on Instagram: @postcardsandcoordinates

we have been travelling through Italy since June 26. We decided to end our holiday with the bank. This hotel certainly did not disappoint. Luxurious hotel with great value. Perched on top of Perugia Umbria. Staff are super friendly and accommodating. The rooms are renovated. The bathrooms are incredible. Unfortunately we are leaving before Umbria Jazz festival, but you should come during that time if possible. Beautiful vibe in the hotel and around the city. The breakfast is fantastic.

Excellent hotel. The spa was so lovely and breakfast was excellent. The family room is two adjoining rooms and was perfect for our family of four. Gracie mile!
