"A dedicated training program for performing mermaids where aspiring performers learn breath-hold technique, underwater movement and facial expressions. One student enrolled in June 2016 and, after four terms, became a certified performer who now appears at children’s parties and corporate events with her pod. Training and performance demand handling heavy, custom tails (about 10 kg when wet; resin scales on neoprene bases with silicone flukes), mastering roughly 45-second performance breath-holds, and about 15 minutes of hair and makeup preparation; performers also practice safety and showcraft for special venue appearances." - Vanessa Tai
