"If there’s a brand that embodies the safari gold standard, it’s Singita, which runs 19 lodges and camps across South Africa, Zimbabwe, Tanzania and Rwanda. Ebony Lodge, overlooking the Sand River in a private concession in the leopard-rich Sabi Sands Game Reserve, was the one that started it all, back in 1993."

Singita Boulders Lodge was recently refurbished.||With new earthly tones and majestic views, it is ideally located along the Sabi river creating a serene and peaceful environment.||Guests are spoiled for choice with dining and relaxing loungers overlooking the watering hole and many of the big 5 passing by.||Fantastic pool area, beautiful spa in the bush and a small but quaint wine cellar. There is no longer a boma at Singita Ebony lodge.||Love the Villa which caters for families. Comes with a pool, your own small private boma and kitchen area with a butler.|The decor is beautiful and traditional.||Service is outstanding and the cuisine and beverages were superb.||Would highly recommend Singita Ebony Lodge.

Having just come from Lebombo, which I loved, I was a little disappointed when I arrived at Ebony - the main lobby area is much less open and feels a tad gloomy, and my room (10) also felt a little dated (like Sasakwa,I felt the bathroom in particular needs updating), made worse by some pretty unappealing lighting (which was also quite confusing to control). The outlook also isn't quite as impressive - Lebombo has really fantastic views of the surrounding landscape, whereas Ebony is closer to the riverbed (a bit like Sweni), which, especially from the rooms, wasn't quite as nice - though I suppose that's a matter of taste. The main pool is a little separated from the lobby area - quite insecty, very cold, and more or less abandoned despite the lodge being pretty busy. The rooms pools are heated, but mine at least was surrounded by enough shrubbery that it was also pretty popular with insects most of the time, so I ended up not using it.||My biggest disappointment with Ebony was definitely the food - I thought it was pretty consistently bad (not just the meals but also the game snacks, which were basically bar snacks out of a packet like roasted nuts, vegetable crisps etc), so I had small portions of everything and was pretty hungry most of the time. I was also pretty confused by the fresh juice on offer, as it really didn't seem freshly squeezed to me although I could be wrong (if it was, that's pretty confusing as it tasted pretty bad and the fruit in Africa is top notch).||Still, the staff are lovely (as has consistently been the case at all the Singita properties I've visited) and the area is beautiful with lots of opportunities for viewing wildlife. In particular, I saw far more rhinos than anywhere else I've been on safari, but this might have just been luck of the draw. It's not a bad lodge by any means, but for the price I'd expect a little better. I checked out Boulders (Singita's other lodge nearby), and it seemed quite similar, it's not obvious which is better. On a next visit to Sabi Sands I'll probably check out Ulusaba.

We have been visiting South Africa since 1998, and have been to the Sabi Sands on several occasions. I would say without a doubt this is one of the best lodges in the world. What makes this place special is the great staff. Let’s start with the lodge that was completely remodeled this year and looks amazing. It offers different areas to gather and have dinner indoors or outdoors overlooking the river. They have a great menu but you can request anything that you like and they will make it happen. The lodge has an incredible wine cellar with the top wines from South Africa and they’re all included. The manager Daniel, who is from South Africa came back after working in different luxury hotels in Dubai and the Emirates. |Our ranger Jonathan was extremely professional and passionate about the bush, one of the best I’ve had in Africa. The rooms are beautiful overlooking the river and you can see many animals right from your room or the lodges lobby. This is our 9th trip to South Africa, we had been to Singita Boulders in the early 90s but this trip was the best! There are many great lodges in South Africa, but what sets Ebony apart is the staff to guest ratio and how accommodating they are. The game viewing is almost the same across the Sabi Sands.

This Lodge is fantastic, we didn't want to leave! The staff were all wonderful and felt like family. The guides were all extremely knowledgeable and went out of their way to help us see all the wildlife possible during our stay. The villas are beautiful, well furnished and equipped and very private. We watched herds of elephant and cape buffalo from our deck. Food was great. This was our favorite safari lodge of our whole trip.

The most amazing experience of my life. The most amazing resort I’ve ever had the pleasure of enjoying a week. The views, the private reserve, the veteran tour guides, and the exceptional hospitality and service. All of the staff truly cares about your enjoyment, preferences, and comfortability. You ask for it, they will find a way to get it. Private chefs create daily menus, mixologists craft specialty drinks, and an extraordinary spa which will help you truly escape in nature. I don’t think I could ever consider staying elsewhere should I return for a future safari. You will see the “Big 5” animals, and more! Cheers!

Have been to Singita’s lodges a few times over the years. Standards have slipped a little, so more difficult to justify the premium charged vs other safari lodges. Amazingly refurbished lodge, game drives are as great as ever with an excellent guide, but food and service are not what they have been in the past. Some of the special touches (e.g. breakfast in the bush) have gone as well. So all in all, really good but not as good as it has been in the past or as good as it should be for the cost.
