The Cheapest Places You Can Fly to From All 50 States

"October’s cheapest domestic option is to Denver for $68 and the October international listing is a generic Canada fare at $559. I arrived 13 minutes early to my flight and was met by the attendant boarding the flight, Dawn. She approached my question, if I could still board the flight, with an immediately rude response, not making eye contact and raising her voice while explaining that she had made the announcement to board and the doors are shut. I understand her upholding company policy of gates closing 15 minutes prior to flight time but was immediately put on edge by her response. As an adult, I do not get yelled at often, and do not appreciate that as an immediate response from a representative of a company that I have paid for transportation. I would expect to be treated as a human, with respect and dignity. I asked to speak with a supervisor and Tammy, the MOD (manager on duty), who was helpful in explaining my next steps while deescalating the situation. I truly appreciate her help and made her aware of Dawn’s response, to which she replied that she would speak with Dawn. You cannot have team members who create a negative experience for your passengers. This could have been a simple change of flights, due to my error, but I was never afforded that opportunity. It is a shame that your passengers are met with this hostile environment when a mistake is made. We need to do better by our peers.

A big THANK YOU to Ben Maxwell SMP Security. We had a visitor from Norway who arrived late at night. He luggage didn’t arrive. She went to the Delta deck and the person there didn’t know how to fill out the form. She left her name address and phone number with the information on who she was staying with. The next 2 days we called Delta several times and went on line. No one would help us. We called the security number we found. Ben Maxwell walked to the delta desk. Again they said they couldn’t help us. Then he walked to where they keep the luggage and after describing he said it was there. We made the 60 mile drive to Sioux Falls. Ben Maxwell was there to meet us. Thank you Ben for listening to us and helping us out! We really appreciate it!

Update Mid February 2025..., nice airport. Note for fellow aviation crew, there is no KCM. But I will have to say I love the art displayed throughout this entire airport. From all the art hanging on the walls to the cool statues.

Google
The airport is very nice, bright, clean and easy to maneuver! The reason for the low score is only because of TSA. We have traveled with a small blender cup, Peanut butter powder, and TSA approved multi tool, all over the US and Carribean for years and have never had a problem. In all other airports they always open these items, exam them and then send us on our way. At Sioux Falls airport, the blender cup was taken, as well as part of the multitool. My husband was then searched again, after already passing the xray screening and treated like we were smuggling something! It seems like there is always trouble at THIS airport that we've never fought elsewhere...

Wow it's like a step back in time. Major airlines fly into this airport but everything about this airport, including the parking areas and the terminal areas, is miniature compared to the airports I'm used to. I've flown out of the Atlanta airport and Detroit Metro many times. When I pulled up here to pick up my son, oh my gosh there were only eight cars lined up in front of the exit. At other airports it would be a fight to the death to get a spot, because there'd be 40 to 50 cars. It's really great, it is SO not crowded, that you don't have to show up 2 hours before your flight, or wait in long lines. However, I have a bad feeling it's going to change very soon. Sioux Falls is growing so fast it reminds me of a gold rush town. They're actually building a huge parking deck right next to the terminal so obviously they're expanding pretty quickly.

8/13/25 Had missed my flight due to my own time management. While trying to get another flight american airlines (i did not plan on flying with them) was really worried about me being able to find another flight with the airline i orginally booked. They were very kind the entire time i was trying to rebook with an agent and even after i secured a new flight they still checked in on me due to their concern. Very nice ladies and would be open to flying with this airline some time because of their kindness. People should be nicer to the staff i witness one of these ladies get berated due to having to call out prechecked bags before those in line. They're just doing what they're told to do by their employers.

AK Smith

Google
One American Airlines agent and tons of passengers with problems. The airport needs people to check bags outside and or make people print their own bag tags. I'm probably going to miss my flight. Get with it. It's 2025!

Google
This is the worst airport I have ever been in. Rude workers and everytime we come they change things like we are supposed to know what to do. They get angry because we don't know. Things are done so differently here than any other allegiant airport. The gate lady act like she hated us because we were military. I detest this airport!!!!!!!

Yelp
For a small airport, Sioux Falls has it all. It's a fairly new airport, so everything seems new and clean. While it's small, it has all the amenities you can want; shops to buy stuff and get a bite to eat. Most seats have power outlets and there are plenty of restrooms. One nice feature, especially if you're a local, is they have a 5 level parking garage, keeping vehicles out of the sun or snow.

Yelp
Great airport to fly out of. The staff was actually very friendly and not condescending. The security checkpoints went quick. They have a decent selection of restaurants and snack areas. Prices are better than other airports in my area
google avatar

Joe S.

Yelp
This is a smaller regional airport. It is super easy to park, get through security and fly out. They have a new parking ramp and inside has been renovated. The staff is nice.
google avatar

Tom G.

Yelp
This airport is small and easy to get to the gates and rental cars. My only complaint is that the hallways and gates get very crowded and it is hard to get through the crowds when a gate is about to board.
google avatar

Yelp
A small airport with a nifty decor & some dining. Quick & easy to navigate. Car rentals are on site - easy peasy all around.

Yelp
Hey Sioux Falls Airpot is awesome!! Staff at American Airlines were very efficient and helpful! Traveling with a firearm to hunt was very easy with TSA. Very clean airport and the restaurant has great food!! All around fantastic experience and easy 5 Stars !!

Yelp
Great parking options and covered parking garage. Great dining option and menu choices. Nice ,clean and quick baggage claims.

Yelp
Sioux Falls Regional Airport tries to be world class but when you think its getting there another issue. Several years ago on approach after 23hrs of travel and an international flight over 12hrs, the runways lights tripped and we had to divert to Lincoln, NE and stay the night. Not easy with a 3 yr old and 4 checked bags! The airport is easy to get in and out of with rentals and parking your car. Free internet. A few new shops and hot food. The remodel was completed 10-15years ago with another minor remodel happening. They seems to be lacking common staff. There was an issues with the fuel truck and now our flight is delayed because the only remaining fuel truck is fuelling another airline.

Yelp
I live in the Sioux Falls area. Every time I fly into FSD at night, we're always forced to wait at least an extra 30-45 minutes on the tarmac because there is another plane in our gate. One time we even had to wait over 2 hours. I don't understand why this continues to happen, it has never happened at bigger airports that I've flown into. Please figure it out FSD. Otherwise it's a nice little airport.

Carol M.

Yelp
Check-in was very slow w only 2 agents and one that handled a single person while another handled at least 8-10. TSA officers were rude. Entry officer mumbled and when asked to repeat grumbled at me. There was no place to empty liquids at conveyor belt so I emptied into a trashcan that already had liquid. The officer rudely chastised me twice. The person behind me had to go outside security to empty his. It was no common sense not to allow for liquid disposal at the belt. I am originally from SD and find most Midwesterners to be kind and friendly--not so at the FSD airport. Finally, the limited number of direct flights is disappointing. When I started flying "home" 45 years ago, I had direct flights from LAX. Attempts should be made to reinstate them.

Yelp
First time flying into FSD airport, one of South Dakota's regional airports. The other I've flown into was Rapid City (RAP), which is the closest to Mount Rushmore and other area attractions. This time around, I needed to be closer to Lennox, SD, so it was basically flying into Sioux Fall, SD regional airport (FSD) and was reasonably priced versus flying into OMA or even MCI and making the drive up. With that in mind, first impressions was that it is a tiny airport with 8 gates. It's like a small arm of SFO or ORD or even ATL. Small regional airports like this are awesome but can be cost prohibitive if there's not enough demand for air travel here on any given day. Thankfully there is enough to give the city of Sioux Falls, SD to have a nice area to have an airport, so I don't need to drive from another major city to get here. The airport itself is very easy to get in and out of. You can get out of the airport within 10 minutes if you are in a hurry. They have all the latest amenities and restrooms are cleaned daily, if not hourly. It's almost like a small wing of a shopping mall, but with airplanes. It's cute and quaint but a good place to fly into if you need to get in the area and don't want to drive long to get here. They have a small but limited food vendors outside TSA security and assorted rental car companies to fit your needs. Not sure how active Uber and Lyft are in the area, but obviously airport service almost guarantees opportunity for them too. The enjoyment factor is good and hope to fly again here soon if my future travels permit me to do so. The overall experience here at FSD regional airport was quite nice and pleasant. It was cool that there was a Subway restaurant kiosk at the airport (outside TSA security) and I was able to mobile order my lunch while deplaning the aircraft, so once I got to the Subway kiosk, it was grab and go from there. Gotta love technology these days. I enjoyed the small town vibe that comes from these small regional airports. No real hurry but still need to be on time for your flight out of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. For the most part though, it was a clean and simple process. You don't really need the two hour standard for flights here, but it's typical just in case. You can get in and out of the airport within 15 minutes, assuming no long lines thru the security check points on any given day. Everything is modernized and optimized for the traveling public. It's great that they have this airport here for those of us who need to fly here to Sioux Falls, SD on any random day of the week. It's nice to visit other parts of South Dakota and here I am doing just that. I enjoyed my short time here wandering around the small terminal inbound and out bound trying to shop for souvenirs. Hope to be back sometime. Sioux Falls regional airport is Sioux Falls, SD airport that's located just outside the city limits. The merchants that do business here accept major credit cards, as well as cash. They have the major car rental companies here as well for your travel needs after your arrival. I didn't need one on this trip since I have a local friend in the area and was gracious enough to accommodate my transportation needs. The airport has a cell phone parking lot for those who need to wait there to pick up friends or family or in some cases, business contacts. Whatever your reason to come to Sioux Falls, SD or the surrounding region, best to fly into FSD. Takes the pressure off of driving long hours to get here when the scenery can be as plain as a white window. I think there is also commuter parking for those who park their car here before jetting off. Overall, can't complain. It's a nice airport that is complimentary to the region it serves. Fly here if you can, it's quite lovely. 5.0 stars for the overall experience. Support local! A+

Yelp
Reached airport and wanted car rental. Wayne Stotts was extremely helpful and nice. Proceeded with all paperwork quickly and effortlessly. Airport id very clean, baggage took some time but no complains.

Yelp
It's not bad for a small airport. Parking is horrible here. There isn't much so don't come super early. This is the worst airport I have been to as it comes to TSA checkpoints They are super picky and it's super slow so make sure you allow extra time as it can take 25 minutes or more to complete the screening. After security there is one restaurant/bar one newsstand and kids play area and a small dog relief area. This airport is horrible if you are majorly delayed as staffing is light in all aspects of this airport.
google avatar

Bill U.

Yelp
I personally had a great experience here as my flight was direct from DFW. In and out quickly and without delay. There is construction in the pickup area for vans going to nearby hotels but it was pretty much hassle-free and easy for this small airport.
google avatar

David M.

Yelp
This is a good airport. Due to its small size and efficient operations, it is easy to get in and out. The staff is nice and there are a few options to eat.
google avatar

Joe M.

Yelp
Nice airpot. Small and easy in and out. a few places to grab a drink and food.
google avatar

Julianna L.

Yelp
This airport is connected to the Aerostay Hotel, it's about a 10 minute Uber ride to the downtown area. This airport has awesome artwork and sculptures too. Subway is located on the bottom floor, feel free to grab yourself a drink at the bar next door before your flight! TSA was friendly and fast! Will visit again soon.
google avatar

Harrison G.

Yelp
Very Nice airport. Highly recommend it. The staff here was very helpful and the place was very clean

Yelp
Super easy and fast - except for the ticket queues.

Yelp
I was sold on this airport as soon as I saw a yoga room. Granted, the yoga room was small in size, but the fact that there are yoga mats available for borrow is a plus in my book! There aren't a lot of airlines at this regional airport, but enough to shop around for the best deal. Security is easy peasy, not crowded upon departure or arrival. I can't speak for security during the holiday rush. Staff members are nice. Lots of plugs and such for all your electronic needs. Limited options on food, but I've learned to just stop by some where and bring my own before going to the airport. Overall, I had a pretty good experience.
google avatar

Jay W.

Yelp
We found this airport to be super nice. The ticketing area was clean, spacious and comfortable. Getting through security was a breeze. Once through security, we stopped at the first restaurant. Most of the tables were dirty so we cleaned our own but what is, is. Our next stop was down to gate 5 where Kyle was working the gate. I so disagree with a previous review about him. He was fantastic. He was friendly, efficient and super helpful. We were there through the storms and he was constantly updating us. Plus, he pulled out a snack cart filled with all different kinds of snacks and drinks. For such a stressful time with weather canceling flights, it turned out not to be as bad as it could have been.
google avatar

Sunil T.

Yelp
A nice, clean, small airport. Before going through security, there is a small food court with a subway and a restaurant/grill. If you're checking in a back, expect to spend maybe 15 minutes in line, at most. Going through security was fast, especially with TSA precheck, though there was nobody in the regular line so it wouldn't have been a problem otherwise. After going through security, there's another cafe and bar. Being a small airport, there are only six gates with a gift shop halfway down the terminal. The snacks and beverages in the gift shop were actually reasonably priced, which is surprising for an airport. Overall a nice small airport which is convenient to get in and out of.

Yelp
Siouxfalls Airport has the worst staff at check in baggage ever! The lady that was on the United airline counter was so rude!! Throwing my stuff on the belt like she doesn't give a f*** if it'll get damaged or not. Like WTH lady if your not ready to come to work then you should've called in stay your ass home. Don't come into work with an attitude.

Yelp
We were at this airport to rent an SUV and liked what we experienced. Sioux Falls Regional Airport, also known as Joe Foss Field, is a regional public airport and military use airport owned by the Sioux Falls Regional Airport Authority. The airport is located northwest of the business district of Sioux Falls, South Dakota. We headed over to rent an SUV (Costco Travel Rental Cars had the best prices.) to get back to Minneapolis-St Paul airport and the smaller size of this airport made our lives much simpler! We were able to pull in to the rental car area, located near baggage claim on the inside of the building, and within minutes our vehicle was pulled up to the curb and we were off and running. Having rented a lot of cars over the years as a Road Warrior, this location was one of the simplest to reserve, check out and get on the road. They had lots of selection from the various rental companies and were well stocked in larger vehicles like crossovers and up to full sized SUVs. If your looking to rent a vehicle after a flight or in general, this is a good airport for that.

Yelp
Small, but sweet. I've only really been to bigger airports--which can be stressful and intimidating. FSD was easy to navigate, quick, and clean. There was a few great dining selections, a small gift shop, and a bar area. Going through security was quick and painless, and the security was great and helpful, turning a generally taxing process into a simple process. There was plenty of seating, lots of outlets, and clean facilities. I especially loved the beautiful mural piece that is hanging among the terminals. It a wonderous piece of local South Dakota that was great to see before I departed.
google avatar

Yelp
Slow and overzealous TSA at this airport. Every damn time I'm here they are picking apart my carryon luggage. I purposely pack dirty clothes in this one on my return trips to Phoenix because of this. They check things like my baseball cap and pull apart my shoe dress horns. It's ridiculous no other airport in the US does this. They also have been known to take over an hour because of this with people waiting. I hate flying from here.
google avatar

Frederick D.

Yelp
Great little airport. Was able to get in fairly quick. However, the return flight was weather delayed which meant my connecting flight was also missed. Alas, not the airports fault. I picked up some expensive refrigerator magnet souvenirs while I waited for my work colleagues. Struck up a few good conversations with other runners.
google avatar

Todd S.

Yelp
Love this airport but 20% or more are not wearing masks and no one is enforcing it. Another 20% are wearing theirs as chin straps.
google avatar

Wind A.

Yelp
Kyle in American Airlines should be fired as a manager. You are called to help customers at the front desk and after 40 mins you are still a no show!! Terrible. Also this kid at American Airlines needs a shower and a new job. Shoutout to the girl in the pic from Delta who was able to help us with the flight plans American Airlines messed up.
google avatar

Austin S.

Yelp
Sweet regional. Rental cars and all the usual amenities. Subway downstairs and ticketing. Can sit around for your friends to arrive. Or just people watch/observe airplanes. Coffee downstairs also, believe it was Caribou. Lines have always been quick for me if any. Security. Ticketing. Boarding etc. in the past it seems this airport has had staffing issues. An important thing to note is most airlines, practically all except for SW contract out a lot of work. Gate agents, baggage handlers, rampers, fuel trucks, and deicers. That means that a majority of the time you are not even dealing with Delta, American, or United airlines employees! Arrival and departure boards are prominently displayed. Chargers abound although a good number of outlets are duds. TSA security is fairly simple. Metal detectors and bag scanners. Some neat aviation cloud artwork on the neighboring wall. Private screening rooms if you prefer private TSA gropings. Friendly staff and you're through in minutes and off to your gate. Restaurant or coffee shop/bar past security. That's basically it apart from some vending machines. Maybe about ten gates with a play area for little ones. Normal seats with huge windows to look outside and pass the time. Free wifi. Apart from that it's your normal airport. Service to Denver and Minneapolis. Nearby airports and maybe Texas. Got the vibe this was a larger airport than Rapid City but I could be wrong.
google avatar

Rachel G.

Yelp
There is not a sense of urgency in any single worker at this airport and their systems of flow do not work. I wasn't even delayed or running late, but found myself quickly losing patience here. It also seemed like everywhere that wasn't downtown Sioux Falls, bland and boring. Upon arrival, our gate was not ready for an extensive amount of time (and getting bags at the baggage claim took another 30+ minutes) and on the departure, AFTER boarding the plane they decided to deice (I thought they could do this before/during boarding or at least start it?). I really wish there was another option when flying here, but mostly grateful that I no longer work for the company that required me to come here for training.
google avatar

Eddie S.

Yelp
Ridiculous Check-In process that took almost 30 minutes, but I am not sure if I can truly blame that on the airport themselves. Outside of that the airport is extremely small and there are not too many restaurants to grab a bite to eat. I got through TSA fairly quickly. The boarding process was pretty easy. Not anything special here.
google avatar

Derek I.

Yelp
So when I flew in, my expectations were pretty modest. I was impressed! This is a great regional airport. Kids play area. Nursing area. Pet area Comfortable seats.
google avatar

Joe N.

Yelp
Flown in and out of here many times. Each time it seems like the baggage people try and beat their past record of "how long does it take to get the bags on the belt." Usual wait is 30-45min...
google avatar

Brenna E.

Yelp
For a tiny airport, they have extremely poor management of checked bags. While attempting to check in a bag with United within the 4 hour ahead window, they informed me that they could not take it because their crew gets "confused" and mixes up the bags, and to come back in 2 hours. Yesterday they apparently put all the Chicago bags on the Denver plane so now it's our problem that they are incompetent. And it gets better... there are NO other United flights until ours... so how could they get confused as to where our bag should go? You got me. Also, how could they not know their own flight schedule? You got me.
google avatar

Cierra T.

Yelp
Wishing that I could have a plastic free meal, but the salsa and mayo came in plastic packets, I brought my own silverware though :) Otherwise, the Sioux Falls airport is near and dear and super chill.
google avatar

Jake Z.

Yelp
Not sure what's going on at the SooFoo airport lately, but it's taking 45 mins from landing to picking up luggage at the carousel. Then when they do finally start the carosel, one or two bags trickle out. This last time they then stopped the mechanism twice. Did the bags for the 50 people on board this little plane jam the works? Come on Sioux Falls, get with the plan and make people do their jobs! Let us go under those little CRJ 145's and grab our own bags if the crew is that inept! We were the only plane at the gates and it's maybe 300 yrds from the plane to the baggage carosel? It's not Denver, or Minneapolis folks, why so inept?
google avatar

Jen F.

Yelp
This airport is small but efficient. One gripe- no mobile boarding passes?! Isn't this 2013? The TSA stand had the scanner yet they don't accept mobile passes. Security seems to move very quickly and be efficient. There is a restaurant on the other side of the gate so worry not- you can drink while you wait for your flight. The car rental is right by baggage claim and just a short walk away to getting your car which is nice after experiencing airports like Miami. Free wifi is always a plus.

Seth C.

Yelp
Smaller airport, everyone was at the counter and except for American Airlines. We waited for half an hour for someone to say that they didn't open for another 20 min. Our flight left in less than an hour. 3 agents at the delta counter and 3 at the allegiant counter. Awful customer service on Americans part.
google avatar

Chris M.

Yelp
Not very many options for flying into SD on American or United. Thankfully this airport (and the other one West River) do a good job of offering flight options, car rentals, and food. Pretty good location central to interstate and Downtown Sioux Falls.
google avatar

Mikee R.

Yelp
This could be an efficient airport if they would train the TSA. I can get through ATL faster than here. Starting with the under qualified guy checking IDs. The woman screening the bags must think every traveler is a terrorist. Is there any know case where TSA has found a terrorist? No? So why keep three people waiting for their bags to come off of the belt. Small airports are always the worst. This location uses a contracted security company to do the work of the TSA. They must be justifying their job.

Milkshake 3.

Yelp
Nice small airport security didn't talks long at all and they have some good restraints there. Check in is easy employees are nice and helpful overall a great experience
google avatar

Ryan G.

Yelp
Umm... what in the world is with security not opening until 4:05am when there are literally hundreds of people lined up for flights that start boarding at 4:23?! I was the second person in line at 3:30, but couldn't believe how many people were lined up all the way to the escalators. Other than that, I had all positive experiences with this airport.
google avatar

Hannah K.

Yelp
Review is for arrivals! Airport is clean and quaint. A major plus is that the rental car services are all inside the building right next to baggage claim. So there is no need to go outside and be exposed to the elements all to take a shuttle to some other location! This was a plus when I arrived during The Great Blizzard of 2018 and didn't have to wait for anything/ anyone to take me somewhere!
google avatar

Jack K.

Yelp
Really nothing negative to say at all. The airport is clean, small, easy to get in and out of, my experience was great. No delays getting in and out of security.
google avatar

Tom W.

Yelp
Waited an hour for luggage last night. Always terrible- new systems but service worse than ever. Apparently don't want to spend any money on staff to do the job.
google avatar

Lauren D.

Yelp
For a regional airport FSD is extremely friendly and efficient. I dropped off my rental car, checked in my bag, and was through security and at my gate in 15 minutes. Everyone in security check had a smile and was giving clear directions before I even had my shoes off, making it easy and fast to get through security.
google avatar

Aaron J.

Yelp
Problems I experienced were a one person check-in counter, a single scanner, ineffective TSA post that allowed passengers to undo the guiding ropes to their content and that takes noticeably more time to scan carry-ons. They also hand checked the most bags I've ever seen. The gates require you to go downstairs to access the plane so no handicap assistance. The main restaurant is on the other side of TSA so you have to remember to eat before entering. The economy parking lot and bus stop are on the opposite end from the ticket counter. The arm to leave the lot didn't work so we had to call a lady to come let us out. There is a modern and very nice hotel next to the airport. The airport itself is remodeled. The staff are friendly.
google avatar

Liz D.

Yelp
Clean airport with the nicest people, especially the Delta Luggage/check-in. We had to swap out some things and they were extremely gracious.
