Had a nice breakfast at Sir Charles Fitzroy today. The cafe is spacious so lots of seating options. Ordered their famous Benedict with Salmon paste and spinach. The roti was crispy and the panko eggs were super yum amazing flavours for this dish, I thoroughly enjoyed it. Also ordered the Vienna coffee it was different from what I had in Korea but very smooth and creamy! Service was super friendly! Great cafe!

Had brunch at Sir Charles today and honestly everything was amazing! The Benedict with salmon and roti is an absolute killer — the roti was perfectly crispy, and the salmon rillette was just next level! We also had the open steak sandwich, and it was seasoned so well, super tender beef with a nice smoky flavour, definitely one of the best I’ve had in Melbourne! To finish, the strawberry shortcake was just perfection light, creamy, and not too sweet. Such a satisfying brunch spot, can’t wait to come back!

Every time I visit Fitzroy, I always come across delicious brunches. I highly recommend the chicken waffles here. The fried chicken is crispy and juicy. The cakes here seem to be quite famous too. I tried the Russian Honey and it lived up to its reputation, especially with the perfect sweetness.

very good cafe! Asian fusioned brunch food are very nice. Cakes here are MUST try! Red velvet is my favorite. Vietnam coffee also quite special.

Google
We tried the Benedict and the scrambled eggs on toast, and both were absolutely delicious. The Benedict was unique, served on a fluffy pancake that paired perfectly with the silky poached eggs. The scrambled eggs were bursting with flavour, thanks to a kick of Mexican chilli. For dessert, we indulged in the strawberry cake and their new Thai milk tea cake! Trust me, these are among the best cakes you’ll find in Melbourne! And yes, you can even order the whole cake to take home

Came here for brunch with a friend and honestly loved it! The place has a super chill vibe and the staff were really friendly. Food came out pretty quick and tastes good!

Great little brunch spot. Fresh decor and delicious food. I got the scrambled eggs which was cooked to perfection. Coffee was also good too!

Sir Charles has some of the best cakes in the area! Every dessert looks stunning and the flavours are even better. Will definitely come back for it

Yelp
Came here with the bf on our last day in Melbourne about a month ago. I had their avocado smash and the bf had their Sir Eggs-a-lot. I also got a flat white to go with my meal, of course. My meal was super fresh and tasty. The dukka and the fried cauliflower were interesting but nice additions to an otherwise very plain dish. Service was fine and courteous as well. I'll also mention that initially, I had wanted to come here to try out the Eton Mess Waffles, but our dishes were pretty large, so we had absolutely no space in our stomachs for anything else. The table next to us did get one, though, and it looked like a wondrous mess.

Yelp
Sir Charles has come a long way since it first opened nearly two years ago, undergoing a major renovation in early 2016, but has remained true to its sophisticated modern charm and Asian fusion-inspired cafe cuisine. Located on bustling Johnston Street, the cafe has no shortage of Fitzroy foot traffic and street views from its footpath seating. The interior, however, is where the magic happens with a large open space that just keeps on going. Formerly a bagel bakery, the space is filled with small tables, large tables, benches and booths with the bar and counter at the front and the kitchen at the rear. A glass walled room halfway along one side houses the roaster that churns out the house blend and single origin coffees. Hanging light bulbs, white walls, polished concrete floor, light timber and copper furnishings and a scattering of pot plants and hanging baskets all combine to create a clean and modern, yet homely atmosphere. The food menu caters for breakfast and lunch dining with all the usual suspects, but with a difference. The popular signature dish is the Sir Charles Benedict, a take on the classic eggs benedict. Panko crumbed eggs, sriracha hollandaise, bacon and fresh chilli on a bed of roti bread. Creamy, spice, crunch, it has it all. There is a variation with added smoked salmon rillette and spinach also available. Other highlights include the Raspberry ripple porridge, "Ms Carter's Waffles" Belgian waffles, Cauliflower, chickpea and kale fritters and the Korean Fried Chicken burger. Coffee is roasted in-house with espresso and filter options. Soy, almond and coconut milk are available. Tea is by Larsen and Thompson. Sir Charles is fully licensed with a range of beers, wine and cocktails on offer. Although renovating early on in its journey may have seemed odd, it has been for the best and Sir Charles is as busy and popular as ever.

Yelp
"Sir Charles Benedict... I want to cry, it's that good!" So after my first experience at Sir Charles I knew I had to dine a second time to have a fuller review. So here goes... I have been here for breakfast and dinner, yes I know what you are thinking - "you still haven't experienced the Korean Fried Chicken Burger" yet my review is still 5 stars... Why? Layout and design of this fine establishment is minimalistic, not in your face... It's open and huge which means it's easy to have some space without feeling like you are sitting in someone else's lap. 5/5 Breakfast - yep, I had the Sir Charles Benedict (I'm a genius) and it was all sorts of amazing. Wifey had the Corn Fritters while that was good it wasn't no SCB. The breakfast was perfectly accompanied by tasty three quarter latte and a double shot latte 6/5 ( it's that good!!) Dinner - Pork Belly Boa in a Trio. Yep as good as it sounds. Immaculately served yet the photo is after I fiddled with it (hey! Don't judge I was hungry!) followed up by the lamb ribs. Not my favourite, a lil on the fatty side but amazing taste and once again served with style. I was given a steak knife - not needed as it falls off the bone. Honestly no need for cutlery... Just use your hands. :) 4/5 Fantastic establishment... Can't wait to come back for lunch :)

Yelp
Yup, I'm a fan of Sir Charles. Opening in early February 2015 I've now paid several visits and have been satisfied every time. The coffee can be sublime if certain baristas are working, but when they're not then it's passable but not the best you'll get in Fitzroy. Until they're all on the same page with technique then your coffee experience may not be in the territory of sublime but your food experience will be! I love that the menu swings firmly in favour of vibrant south east asian flavours with the likes of miso scrambled eggs and BBQ pork with roti and fried eggs. For kidlets big and small there's boiled eggs and soldiers and if you're after something a little more "regular" then go for the avo on toast or get simple poached eggs on toast, maybe with a side of bacon and house made kimchi? Breakfast runs until 4pm, and there's a lunchtime menu that runs 12 until 4pm if you don't believe in eggs after noon (what's wrong with you!). Thursday to Saturday there's also a dinner service, where the menu is made for sharing and filled with great flavour and spice. The son-in-law eggs are a standout as is the sashimi. These guys are licensed so you can have a beer or wine from a small list that hopefully will grow more creative in time. Service overall is friendly and doing well in such a large and busy space considering the newness of Sir Charles. In time, as systems are refined and they settle in some more, I think they'll really hit their straps. Until then, be patient and cut them a little slack while you wait for your tasty meal.

Yelp
A few people have told me to visit sir Charles for the eggs Benedict. One guy even told me that he took all his interstate friends and business contacts to brunch at sir charles just for the eggs Benedict. Touted for its eggs benedict, I had to get some. So I worked extra hard at the gym before meeting up a dear colleague at 10am for brunch. Lots of free parking on a Sunday. Don't have to wait in a queue though staff can fail to notice that you're standing there and waiting to be seated. Not noisy at all and quite spacious. So definitely go there in small or large groups and you can have a lazy brunch and chat and actually hear your companions. There is a delicious selection of doughnuts and cookies at the front counter. A large chalk board displaying all the coffee blends. The menu comes with an additional weekend specials menu that varies from week to week everything on the menu looked so good that it was a pity that I went with just one other and that we could only try two dishes. We got the salmon eggs benedict which comes with roti, burnt chilli, salmon rilette, two Panko crumb coated poached eggs doused in hollandaise. The entire combination was delicious. It also comes with some charred lemon. The lemon juice squeezed onto the deliciously poached egg oozing out golden heavenly yolk with extravagant soft tender flavored salmon combined with soft roti is just a dish with so many delicate flavours balanced together. I could even taste the burnt chilli in each mouthful. So sublime! I want to make these eggs but how do you fry poached eggs to get the crispy panko layer without cooking the yolk inside? Gastronomy!!!! The scrambled eggs with roast cauliflower, miso flavours and sesame seeds on toast were another story of matches made in the kitchen. I could taste the delicate miso, the creaminess of the eggs, the bite of each sesame seed, and the crusty but soft enough to cut through toast. Ermagerd - this place is fantabulous! I want to eat the entire menu but also the eggs Benedict over and over again. In contrast, the coffee was awful. I think cafes that have a sign showcasing six coffee blends to choose from should offer the customer these options within the coffee menu and ask them if they want their coffee strong, acidic, creamy etc. Mine tasted awful. Acidic. Strong. But awful. Service is quick and staff are friendly. :)

Yelp
Such a great spot! Food had a unique twist on good old standard breakfast/brunch options. Service was lovely but did had to call out a couple of times to get extra. Music was prob a little loud to hear each other talk across the table. Good coffee and plenty to choose from. We were 3 girls having brunch and loved it!

Yelp
Sir Charles is a gorgeous space and a great new addition to Melbourne's cafe scene. I was originally lured here by the promise of some asian-fusion breakfast and the menu didn't disappoint, with a good mix of options and promise of homemade sriracha included. On this occasion, I didn't actually try these option...my sweet tooth got distracted by their hotcakes. Delicious ricotta hotcakes with honeycomb cream and fresh fruit, perfect portion, not overly sickly or crazy. They are also a coffee roastery and have both espresso and filter coffee on menu. I went for the COE on filter, tasty but not the best in the area for that higher price point. The space itself is gorgeous and as others have mentioned, huge. Filled with white, mint and copper finishes - it sets a relaxing tone for an early Sunday morning breakfast...but no doubt this place would get popular during peak times.

Yelp
My first visit to Sir Charles was just a short one, since I only picked up coffee, which was very good. On my second visit, I was there for breakfast. We ordered the porridge and the granola and when the food arrived, we couldn't believe our eyes how beautifully arranged our food was. And when we took our first bites we knew that it wasn't just beautiful, but also very delicious. A+ for the kitchen staff! On my third visit (a day later) we only ordered the porridge because we were in a hurry - same experience like on the day before. We would definitely recommend this place to anyone who is looking for a nice and tasty breakfast / brunch.

Yelp
I was excited to check this place out, some Grenada and I made our way over to the excellent brunch end of Brunswick street with mouths watering and coffee levels dangerously low. Occupying the former average bagel store the interiors are bright and fresh with nice lights, decorations and splashes of color. Our coffees arrived and they were greedily gulped down. Very tasty. We were very happy to find a all day breakfast menu with some great looking options (with plenty of nice vegetarian things to choose from!). We went with the corn fritters and also the jalapeño poppers. After a little wait the poppers arrived with an apology that the fritters were on their way. The cafe was almost empty so we are still wondering why they couldn't come out together. Maybe 5 minutes later we got the fritters. We were both disappointed in the portion size for the prices and neither meal was large or filling but they were very tasty. I would go here again for coffee but with so many fantastic brunch places in the area I hope they pick up their game and offer more bang (or poppers) for your buck.

Yelp
I've had a few coffee-meetings up at Sir Charles, and I have to say, I like this place! A spot of coffee never goes astray in my day, and Sir Charles serve good coffee in spades. Their long black is bold, and the latte's always go down well with my colleagues. Their assortment of teas is not fantastic, but nothing to grumble at either. Worth a look-see, definitely. Next time I will have to get a bite to eat!

Yelp
O.k. so cold drip has been somewhat taken advantage of by the Fitzroy coffee scene as this uber expensive refined process. Well as it turns out, Sir Charles does not agree with this egregious crime against our wallets and offers cold drip at a fair and low price. OH and the food is also well above par and what you would expect of Fitzroy.

Yelp
Sorry, but this is going to be a negative review. Upon walking in, a staff member walked past us and played around on a till. Then another staff member walked past us. Then the first staff member walked up to the couple in front of us and took them to a table. Then he continued off to the other side of the cafe talking to some more customers. Then the second staff member walked past us again. I thought my friend and i had magically become invisible so i walked up to the till near the coffee machine, only to be ignored by all 3 staff behind there too. Finally my friend walked up to one of the staff at the other till to finally get someones attention. All that was needed was one person to say 'ill be with you in a minute'. 5 staff members ignored us..5. That is never acceptable. We were seated at a communal table while we waited for another table? (This was just confusing, why not just seat people at the communal tables?) We ordered coffee and waited. Finally getting a seat, our coffees came. We then had to ask for menus. I wish they had someone proof read them because i found a couple mistakes. Now their saving grace is the food. Its interesting, creative and refreshingly different. I had Sir Charles Benedict, panko crumbed eggs with lots of bacon, spicy hollandaise, served on roti. Oh how delicious. Roti for breakfast? Hell yeah! The coffee was good, but I would like to explore their coffee a bit more since they have a roaster sitting in the cafe. The fit out is bright and vibrant. Good sized timber tables, nice flowers on the table, lots of light. Ill go back to check out their coffee and explore their menu more but first impressions last. I had such high hopes from what i've read about Sir Charles. The only reason im giving 4 stars is because i still have a little bit of hope left.

Yelp
Like a lot of other times, I'm a bit slow off the bat in terms of coming down to check out the premises of sir Charles. I read about the location and then re-read the posted view with a bemused look and a questioning and confused mind. "Just next to night cat?, Huh, there's nothing there." So upon an exploration one morning I headed out to sir Charles one morning to see if I could locate it. It's worth remembering that at this point I'd completely forgotten the name. Success! It was found, and I was rewarded for doing so. The coffee I had was cup of excellence, and it does a pretty good job of aptly describing itself. I'm sure if there's ever another Bill and ted movie, probably the retiree version, Cup of Excellence will feature. On to the Benedict; opulent, indulgent and Moorish. Perfectly cooked soft boiled eggs in a panko crumb, which is perfectly crispy, not soggy with brilliant eggs inside. Add some great qaulity crispy cooked right bacon, some siracha mayo, chilli and a roti style bread to complete everything, and you have yourself a pretty darn mean breakfast. So many other things looked tempting on the menu, as well as further lunch and other eating intervals. But seriously I highly recommend their take on eggs Benedict. Do try.

Yelp
Everything we ordered come out better than what we expected. It was unique combinations and rarely seen in any other brunch places. The roti was awesome, authentic asian roti. The hollandaise was not too spicy, just enough give extra punch flavour on the dish. The eggs was deep fried but still runny inside. It was an awesome experience. One of the best asian fusion brunch place in Melbourne by far. The let down was the service was really slow every time I went in on weekends, it takes a long time for them to bring coffee and tea to our table. It also takes a long time to get water or the bill. To justify, it was indeed a busy day but they clearly need more people.

Yelp
First visit to new kid on the block Sir Charles. They have made great use of the space the Bagel Shop left behind with a cooper/pine/white fit out. Flat white passed the sugar test with flying colours (one teaspoon then watch how long it takes to sink through the "head") the menu was a surprise (I was thinking Sir Charles = English style breakfast) no so - more Malaysian/Indian fusion takes on typical dishes. This isn't the place to come for eggs and bacon. I had the miso scrambled eggs and my partner had the open omelette. Both were delish with a light spice kick. They had some great Sunday morning tunes on as well. Service was attentive with a grin. They also do lunch and small plate style dinners.

Yelp
Looking for a new breakfast joint on my visit to Melbourne in April 2015, I waltzed into Sir Charles with a near-dead phone and found a great seat right next to a powerpoint. That I couldn't use because the wall had been built right up to it. Awkward. STILL, the lovely staff took my phone away and found a powerpoint to charge it, though this did mean this solo diner was left phoneless for her meal. Look, when I'm by myself, my phone is my date. I kinda need it. I got my notebook out and did some scribbling. I survived. It was a struggle, but I survived. And my phone got charged. The menu is littered with subtle asian-inspired flavours. I asked for a recommendation, and was directed toward the Sir Charles benedict. I'm a sucker for a title track. No english muffins for this benny, instead you get panko crumbed eggs with sriracha mayo and delicious bacon served on a tasty, crispy roti flatbread. Yes, I recommend. The space itself is big, bright and beautiful, white tiles with wooden accents, and smiling staff are super helpful. I'm down!

Yelp
I had a very enjoyable coffee here a week ago and they appear to have a great coffee set up. The service is friendly and relaxed. I'm not a huge fan of the decor, but maybe that was because it was a quiet time of the day and the minimalist big open space felt a bit empty. Lots of white. The food looked good and I would come back to try it.

Yelp
This is the holy grail of brunch. It honestly tastes as pretty as it looks. I'm so into the Asian fusion influence because it actually works WITH the brunch. GET THE PORK BELLY.

Yelp
Hands down one of the best breakfast places I've ever been to. The chilli scrambled eggs with BBQ pork and the salmon eggs benedict were both out of this world. You're a fool if you don't try this place!

Yelp

Yelp
Great brunch food with heavy Asian twists. Distinctive in the midst of the multitude of cafes popping up all over Fritzroy. Great ambience - wide clean spacious. Great coffee riast with thecriasting done inhouse. I love this place!

Yelp
Pretty decent breakfast. Had avocado and poached eggs and they were delicious. Coffee was quite nice also. Well worth a visit if you're in the area.

Yelp
Wow love this place. Great vibe. Great deco. Staff knowleadgeable about their food & offered recommendation. We took their advise & it was spot-on! Am telling heaps of friends from Sydney about this place.
