The 17 Best Hotels in Berlin

"A home-away-from-home vibe pervades this stylish boutique hotel, just a short walk from the cobblestoned Savignyplatz in the city’s posh Charlottenburg district. Kitted out with low-slung midcentury-modern furniture, literary-themed artwork, and bookshelves stocked with art tomes, the lobby has plenty of cozy nooks that invite lounging. A long communal wood table in a central kitchen area serves triple duty: a reception desk, breakfast spot, and coworking space for laptop-wielding digital nomads. But the real draw here is the back room, where floor-to-ceiling windows overlook a pretty garden and a circular glassed-in fireplace keeps things warm during chilly Berlin winters. Keeping with the casual, homey ambiance, there is no formal reception desk; you check in and out in the lounge." - Jennifer Ceaser, Liz Humphreys

Sir Savigny Hotel

"Start us off with an overview.A home-away-from-home vibe pervades this stylish boutique hotel, just a short walk from the cobblestoned Savignyplatz in the city’s posh Charlottenburg district. Kitted out with low-slung mid century-modern furniture, literary-themed artwork, and bookshelves stocked with art tomes, the lobby has plenty of cozy nooks that invite lounging. What’s the crowd like?Sir Savigny attracts a creative crowd; hip young European hotel guests mingle over cocktails and burgers with local artists, fashionistas, and entrepreneurs in the chic, book-lined lobby lounge. What you won't see are children; most rooms are too small for an extra bed and the decor and design are better suited to adults. And how is check in? In keeping with Sir Savigny's casual, homey ambiance, there is no formal reception desk; you check in and out in the lounge. Now, take us upstairs. What are the rooms like?Sir Savigny has 44 rooms, three of them suites—but be prepared, they are all a bit small. They range from Sir Petit (measuring just 140 square feet) to the more spacious Sir Suites, which have free-standing in-room bathtubs; one (No. 306) features a large terrace overlooking the garden. Amsterdam-based designer Saar Zafrir created the romantic interiors—plush, jewel-toned velvets, dark woods, rich leathers, vintage rugs, gilt-edged mirrors, and brass accents. Rooms have either queen- or king-sized beds dressed with signature bedding and 300-count linens. Any little details of note in your room?A kitschy Ring for Burger buzzer/intercom service connects you directly to The Butcher, the in-house restaurant. Next to it, a suggestive Post-it asks, "Do You Like Fries With That?”—and you should definitely say yes. Tell us more about the on-site dining. The Butcher, an upscale burger joint that was adjacent to the lobby, shut its doors in late 2023. For now, only breakfast, which consists of muesli, yogurt, cheeses, and cold cuts, is available at the hotel, served at the long communal table in the kitchen. Egg dishes, including a particularly good smoked salmon and poached eggs, are also available, as are fresh-pressed juices and smoothies for pretty affordable prices. Anything else we should be sure to check out while staying here? You won’t hurt for café and bar choices near Sir Savigny, from the old-time, late-night Schwarzes Café (where Bowie used to hang) down the block to the highly Instagrammable A Never Ever Ending Love Story around the corner. You’re also only a short walk to Savignyplatz and Bücherbogen, an internationally renowned bookstore. Ultimately why will we like staying here?Unless you're springing for a suite, rooms are a bit on the small side. That said, the contemporary-meets–Art Deco design is impeccable and the location is ideal, near galleries, boutiques, and the posh shopping along Ku'damm." - Jennifer Ceaser

The room is charming and truely a Design Hotel. The location is good, right next to a train station. The service from reception was the worst though. I agree with others who write here about the service. It's terrible and lousy! They show no interest at all. The woman ( dark hair) was ok and trying but the guy was weird. He doesn't smile, doesn't talk and feels like he's racist to be honest. Not good at all. I wish they were a little more welcoming and friendly, especially since they work in the hotel industry where service is the focus. Nothing wrong with the hotel but there's something strange about the staff at reception. The guy who works at night was friendlier though. Edit: The blond receptionist is lovely and she’s super friendly!

I stayed in the sir deluxe room ( 107). The room was big enough for me traveling alone, but would be on the smaller size if two people were to stay there, in my opinion. |The room was beautiful, no complaints there. |The Chek in process could be better. I don't think they informed me enough ex. no one told me that the treats on the desk was complementary or that I could order from the menu at the breakfast table [ breakfast was included in my stay]. If I came again I would skip the hotels breakfast and eat at one of the many greate breakfast and brunch spots i berlin.

Room was clean and interesting decor in the hotel. Service was not super helpful eg hotel website said that you could get different pillows which we wanted and the person at reception had no idea nor did they make any effort to investigate further despite us asking twice. They weren’t very friendly otherwise either

We stayed here this month for a birthday trip. Overall very very good but there are some really minor gripes that would push this to a 5 star review ||Pros -|Great location, great facilities nearby, good transport links and the hotel is unique and very pretty! The entryway is really lovely as is the decor. The room is quirky and the bed is INSANELY comfortable. We didn't once hear any other guests and loved the mini fridge and amenities we were provided. The QR code link to all the hotel information is also really helpful and it was also a lovely suprise to be given free drinks vouchers on arrival||Cons - The service is mixed. We met three different staff members during our stay, two male and one female. I didn't catch their names but she was lovely, very smiley and welcoming. When she greeted us she offered us water and any help and just generally was a ball of sunshine. The second member of staff was also nice, he got us some plug converters as we had forgotten ours and was just generally really helpful. The male staff member who I assume is the manager was not. He came across quite cold which is absolutely fine however when we went down to enquire about our tv he was quite rude. Let me start by saying the TV service here is ridiculously bad. The tvs are aged and dated, the only bad thing about our room and something sleek and modern would fit into the aesthetic perfectly. The TV had 200 channels and around 180 of them did not work. The remaining 20 had a tv lock so we couldn't even change the language or add subtitles. Whilst I understand we are in Berlin, this is a European capital bustling with tourists so I thought some leeway would apply here. Anyway I asked if he could come look at our tv, retune it maybe or even add a subtitle. He was very dismissive saying this is a 'business hotel' so the TV shouldn't be important. If that is the case just don't offer the TV. I can handle nothing being able to be done but it was the dismissive nature that was frustrating above all else. Again a small gripe - but this would have make a huge difference

Google
Basically no service, reception friendly but someone random, very hard to identify staff and distinguish them from guests, not even name tags. Breakfast room looks more like a place to slaughter cows then to have breakfast, room is very small for being that pricey, robes are fancy but highly uncomfortable

The location and room itself were amazing. Beautiful room and I also liked the hotel design as well. All aspects were amazing and I had a wonderful time with my hotel room. However, what I did not like was my experience with the staff. From the moment I arrived I felt not welcomed at the hotel and that continued throughout my stay. It felt like I was not wanted as a guest of the hotel as they were very standoffish with me. Other than that, the hotel itself was nice, however in the future I think I will look for another hotel to stay at in Berlin since the experience with the staff left me feeling a bit sad and uneasy.

Google
The hotel public spaces look nice but the room was too small fort 2 adults and cluttered with stuff one did not need and not properly furnished for comfort. The wash basin is in the bedroom rather than the bathroom meaning the likelihood of water splashing everywhere. There is a restaurant attached to the hotel which had no English menu and was advertised as Japanese fusion. The fixed menu was 70 euros per person so we ate across the somewhat shabby street in a Vietnamese restaurant where we had an excellent meal that come to 51 euros for 2 people including wine.|The hotel breakfast was the worst I have ever encountered. Although breakfast was included in our room rate, all that was provided were a few cereals, a bowl containing one orange and a few apples, On the table were a tiny slice of cheese and a few small bowls contaning 2 dried prunes, one tomato and 2 slices of cucumber. One could order a cooked dish (all eg based) from a list of. 6, 3 of which were not available.

I had the best stay at a Berlin hotel. This place made me feel home and gave me an amazing positive energy. The location is great and the neighbourhood is wonderful. The only part I didn’t have a luck trying was the restaurant. Looking forward to come back.

Yelp
Absolutely great service. I had left my bag with them for a night after my first stay and when I returned to check in to my room for my second stay, they had already put my bag in the room for me. On my first stay I was on the first floor towards the back. Those rooms have high ceilings! Today I am on the fifth floor, the highest floor. The ceiling is much lower, perhaps because I am in the eaves. The rooms are finished to a higher standard and quite artistic. Photos of the decor look dark but in person it is quite lovely. Check was a breeze. Btw I am staying in a small room with a queen bed. That is what I ordered. It is a fine space for me. The area around the hotel is buzzing with restaurants, a couple that are open until 3 am.

Yelp
The reception and restaurant (The Butcher) are lively (food is great). The rooms all unique. Comfortable bed. The room is filled with quality amenities you may need in your room. Full-size alcohol bottles, selection of tea and goodies to munch on. I had messaged ahead of time with a special request and they were able to accommodate it. Service is excellent.

Yelp
During my trip to Berlin I chose to stay in this chic wavy boutique hotel. I opted for a suite that wasn't really a suite. I am used to suites being spacious and including a separate area. This was an average room with a king size bed. There wasn't even a desk. Their suites should just be called a "Deluxe Room". The room was decorated beautifully and was well something to talk about. Inside in the room was a tub and a stand up shower. Everything about the room was amazing to me. I think some "5- star hotels" can learn a thing or two from this hotel. The lobby/downstairs is also a restaurant/ lounge called The Butcher. You can order service and have it sent to your room. I had their food for breakfast which was 12 euros. Mediocre, but that's how it usually is in Europe. At night it gets jamming and is filled with a crowd. As other reviewers said it is a little cramped also in my opinion. Not in a negative way, but as for the price and what they call a "suite". The receptionist now have a check-in desk lol and you are able to print for free! They also had The NY Times available.

Yelp
this is a nice Hotel - the room inetrior is real fancy and out of teh ordinary. Unfortunately a bit clutered and somewhat impractical in parts. I think the receptionist deserves a real work place ... but thats me.

Yelp
Solid hotel. I was a bit confused when I first arrived because there is no front desk. I was quickly welcomed and checked in while sitting in the lounge. I actually thoroughly enjoyed the experience. After, I arrived to the room, which was quite cluttered and cramped. They made good use of the space with separate shower and toilet rooms. There was barely enough room to move with the bed taking up the majority of the space. I tried the restaurant and it was very good.

Yelp
Wish I could have stayed longer. Great location, great service, great value. Very neatly appointed hotel, modern and stylish without going too far. Service was top notch. It's a small hotel and the they make a huge effort to take care of their guests. Free mini bar! What's not to like? I would definitely stay here again.

Yelp
I stayed here for 5 nights while attending a conference at TU (approx 15 min walk away). First, the service here is very elegant, comfortable and helpful. There is no check-in desk exactly, just always someone floating around to help you smoothly and quickly with anything you could need. The air-conditioned lounge (with bar) is very chic with a nice inner courtyard with many tables (it seems that the bar is mainly for show, as there were never more than 2-3 people there). The breakfast was expensive (a significant fraction of the room cost) but looked very nice, though if you walk a few minutes in either direction you can find (much cheaper) cute bakeries (as well as many tasty and reasonable restaurants). The room wasn't large, but felt very efficient and design-y, with all the conveniences including a free non-alcoholic minibar (to be precise, one filling of the minibar is free, which in my case was an assortment of 6 small bottles of soda and sparkling water), nespresso machine with daily refills, a desk large enough to work at, a balcony, a large flatscreen tv, and a sort of in wall closet/suitcase space, and an ipod docking station. The bathroom is separated from the room by frosted glass walls which gives a pleasant open feeling. The hotel is just off the Savignyplatz Station where 3+ trains run, and also very near Uhlandstrasse which gives you train connections to the south. My first day in the hotel the set of espresso cups etc seemed pretty dusty, but the subsequent days they were clean, so perhaps the room hadn't been rented for several days before I came.

Ansgar B.

Yelp
I booked this hotel on one of my first visits to Berlin. It has style, it has a Nespresso machine in the room and an all-you-can-consume minibar included. The room I had though was tiny, noisy and the silicone in the shower was moldy. I'd have stayed here again if it wasn't so overpriced and pretentious.
