Nature and Parks in Belfast

"Known to locals as Lady Dixon’s for short, this is Belfast’s most extensive public park. It covers 130 acres of forest, meadows, and green space in the affluent southern part of the city. Wandering around the vast grounds, visitors will find various curios of the late 19th and early 20th centuries, including a grand country manor, a Japanese walled garden, and a wide variety of exotic plants, including internationally acclaimed roses and camellias. During the WWII, the park hosted a base for US troops, but these days it can be accessed by the southbound trains or the No. 9 bus. Opening hours vary depending on the time of year." - MATADOR_NETWORK

Can be a little tricky to get to without a car but is well worth a visit regardless. There are so many trails and hidden gems to explore here, with rose gardens, gorgeous forests (especially in autumn!) and even a quaint café this is a must go place for dog-walkers, families and the avid nature photographer!

A large and open space with an amazing range of trees, open fields and a collection of wonderful roses. You can walk for hours and enjoy the fountain and walled garden and forest walks or simply choose any one of a number of benches and soak in the silence and views! Bliss!!

Great park for a walk with flowers in season. Rhododendron flowers and Roses in season. Sorry to see the house deteriorating and derelict.

Really nice place for a mid journey detour. Beautiful grounds with a variety of walks which are Moderately easy ( not really wheelchair friendly). Not too big a venue but you could easily spend 2 hours. Playpark is very good. Free parking. Café was excellent.

Lovely park in Belfast. Very well maintained. Timings depend on the sun. So peaceful. You could spend hours walking in this slice of heaven. There's a lovely rose garden. They have a cafe for a quick snack or cup of tea or coffee. Had a great time here.

Beautiful place.. I think we should visit during May June to see the flowers filled in the garden..but summer time is best for walk or playtime with children

The children's play park is really poor and needs a lot of investment. For the size of the park and the beautiful gardens the play park should really be better to rival with stormont and hillsborough. There used to be a lot more structures but they have been removed over the years; you will note the zip line track and a lonely digger in a massive sandpit. There are no gates on any of the entrances so it is not very secure. The roof of the old bbq shelter is a state. There is a single hand sanitising station which would be useful if it actually had sanitizer in it. As you can see the swings are very dirty.
