Unlike many of the Aleutian Islands, Dutch Harbor has trees.
Hidden behind a playground is a tiny valley that holds a Natioal Landmark/Park; The oldest recorded forestation project in North America.
A few of the original trees, only waist high and nearing 200 years old, can still be found with a little searching. Their prodigy has thrived, filling the valley and peppering the surrounding hills.
A pond, birds and fall flowers complement the scenery.
Here, serenity can be found a short walk from the airport.
