14 Best Bars in Savannah

"Marked by a British phone booth and Union Jack flags, Six Pence Pub is an institution where it feels like Savannah never asked England to leave. The beer is from across the pond: Guinness, Newcastle, and Smithwick's. The menu is hearty: Shepherd's pie, bangers and mash, and salmon—a veritable British invasion. Order a pint and a side whiskey; all will be well." - Barbara Skidmore

Google
Nice little pub. We are not drinkers so this is just about the food. The food was really good. I liked my Shepard's Pie better than the one at McGuire's in Destin. Food seemed really fresh and was quick. Probably the most attentive service we had over our stay in Savannah. The food came out decently quick in a full restaurant.

Google
Great place to grab a bite to eat off the trolley. Had a quick half sandwich and bowl of French onion soup. Plus I added a black & tan with a shot Jameson on the side

Google
Stopped here for dinner after settling in from a long day of travel. Great pub vibe/ambiance. Dark wood, packed bar. Server seemed new but efficient. Food was very good. Menu is small but packed with nice as you’d expect pub options. We had the loaded banger appetizer which was small (one banger; two would have been better for a party of 4) burgers which were delicious with cheddar & bacon and one had the chicken salad sandwich which was packed with fresh chicken salad. Side choices are chips, homemade potato salad or coleslaw…all of which were good, especially the homemade options. If you like no frills pub groove this checks the boxes.

Just went in for a couple pints while enjoying some sightseeing around the square. Great selection of English and Scottish beers and I'm sure many more. Bartender was nice and helpful in deciding on something to try. Food looked good but had other plans.

Google
Great pub food. The outside tables are dog friendly. Service was exceptional. I highly recommend the Ploughman’s Lunch - (often abbreviated to just ploughman’s) an English cold meal which is based on bread, cheese, and onions and usually accompanied by butter and some form of pickle. Additional items such as ham, hard boiled eggs and apple can also be added. As its name suggests, a ploughman’s lunch is most commonly eaten at lunchtime. The meal is particularly associated with public houses and is often accompanied with beer!

Google
Can't beat the atmosphere. Super-friendly servers. Family-vibe. Comfort food. A bit on the pricey side for some good items such as soup. $8 is a bit too ambitious for what it is.

Google
Our dog Ruby has an uncanny ability to find great pubs. As we passed Six Pence she stopped at the front door and wanted to go in. Good enough for us! We sat outside, chatted with the servers... had a few perfect pints and some great food. Thanks Ruby and Six Pence!!

Google
I’ve been in several pubs in London as well as Scotland. The vibe of this place nails it! Stick your head in, take in the ambiance and leave. Our service was horrible (ordered Welsh rarebit, shepherd’s pie and beef Guinness). Order came out as 2 Shepard pies and when I questioned the beef being ina bread bowl; our server played it off saying that she forgot to ask about it I wanted a crock or bread bowl (no, the beef is NOT covered in mashed and cheese!). When she brought out our mains, we asked about the appetizer. She stated that she’d go back and get that made now; delivered 10 mins after main was served. Never saw server again so I had to get up and get my own water. I think we just got a bad young waitress because the other two were ALL over the tables around us. The food itself was mediocre; beef chunks maybe 5? Smallish portions for price. I won’t return.

Yelp
Went here a while back (January 2024), but I wanted to rate this place still. This was the first traditional English pub I have ever been to. I knew this place would have high hopes when this was the only establishment around Savannah with a 1+ hour wait. I was told to order the shepherds pie, and it did not disappoint. I would order this again. In addition, my drink paired nicely with the food. I found the place itself really cute. From the furniture to the wooden interior, I felt like I was transported to England. I would definitely come back next time I'm in the area

Yelp
First off, the Six Pence Pub has a great look to it. With the red phone booth outside, you just want to enter the British style pub. The cool vibe continues inside with a nice bar and plenty of beers on tap. I enjoyed my Harp! The problem here was we didn't love the food. In fact, my wife's crab cakes were burnt on the bottom. To the restaurant's credit, they did give a free drink to make up for it. I'll also say that my homemade bread pudding was excellent! All in all, I would come back here to sit at the bar and enjoy a drink in a fun place. (I'd also make sure I ordered that dessert)!

Yelp
Tasty food & solide beer selection. Definitely a nice stop on a trip to Savannah. Server Julian isn't great, which made this a 4 star review. He gives off a fake friendly vibe, rather than an authentic Savannah welcoming demeanor.

Yelp
Great find for us, but not unknown cuz they were packed!! Told us 20 minute wait but seated in 5. Woohoo! We started with Scotch eggs and Welsh Rarebit. Had never had either and liked them. The eggs were cold and had good relish and mustard to add flavor. The rarebit was warm and cheesy. Jess had Guinness beef is a bread bowl and it was delicious. I had Shepard's pie and wax equally awesome. The dinners were fantastic and would probably order again, even tho we like to try new things. We ended with bourbon pecan pie and again, really good. Our server was great, with both attentiveness and recommendations. The place is small but really cool inside.

Yelp
I Loved the atmosphere at Six Pence Pub. Our bartender was super nice and very helpful. Allowing us to try several beers before we settled on our choices. Four of us came here in the afternoon on a COLD day in Savannah. It was a great respite from the temps and our day of walking around. The beer selection is fantastic ! Just about every style you could want unless you prefer boring beer. I would come here just to try a bunch of the options. The food was good (not outstanding) but still very acceptable. The Shepard's pie (really Cottage pie) was good but the serving was a little small. The soups were very good and I was told that the Corned beef sandwich was excellent. I am looking forward to returning to Six Pence on my next trip to Savannah.

Yelp
Love this place! Their sandwiches are delicious, and of course, their beer. French onion soup is a must as well! Very authentic and cozy atmosphere. Our waiter was amazing, quick and attentive, knowledgeable and patient with all my questions, even though they were super busy. Our Savannah trips are never without a stop here.

Yelp
Need an authentic English Pub experience? Then drop into the Six Pence Pub in Savannah, GA. The Great Gal and I had already had lunch, so we just stopped to have an afternoon beer. I went with a Shandy (Harp and Sprite)...GG went with an IPA Creature Comforts. Both nicely served by warm, friendly, and smiling Keisha. Great little place.
google avatar

Rachel H.

Yelp
We liked this place. The waitress was excellent and kind, especially for our late 10pm Sunday evening dinner outing. We ate a chicken Caesar salad-the chicken was really fresh and delicious. And also a French onion soup, which was much spicier than we're accustomed to. They had a good beer selection as well that the hubs enjoyed picking from. Warm and cozy like a pub should be.

Yelp
Location. Location. Location. I was just passing thru! Wasn't even hungry but felt like taking a moment to enjoy my surroundings because I read that Savannah has a great night life. The service was good. The food wasn't bad. The ambiance was the best!

Yelp
Ambiance: Very Irish like, I have recently been to Ireland/UK and it really has that UK feel. Food: Overall was good. They do not serve fried food or french fries due to some stupid regulation. The shepherds pie was ok, had better in other pubs. The burgers were good, not phenomenal. Service: We had a pretty good service despite the place being super busy. This pub is a bit off the "busy/touristy" area so it is worth coming and checking it out.

Yelp
This is my second trip to Savannah and the second time I've eaten at this cute pub! We were going to the Savannah Theater and wanted to park just once so we ate dinner here because it's so close! We had wine and appetizers of smoked salmon, baked Brie & grapes, and the crab cake. We loved everything but the crab cake, which wasn't what we expected. It was very ground up crab so the texture threw us off. We were expecting more of a lump crab cake style. We should have asked the server what Daufuskie Island-style meant so it was our fault! Our server was not as friendly as it seems everyone in Savannah is, but we enjoyed our meal and just love the atmosphere here!
google avatar

Lorraine N.

Yelp
Service was lovely. There were several very loud groups the day I was there that took over the cozy feel of the place. My little Shepard pie dish was very heart and they have speckled hen on tap.
google avatar

Jenny G.

Yelp
Atmosphere is fun and the food/drinks were great! I've been here twice and absolutely love this pub. Services was friendly and fast. This place is one of my favorites!

Yelp
Fun stop with friends while in Savannah. Tasty club sandwich, delicious potato salad, and pork sandwiches. Friendly service.

Yelp
We were finishing our St. Pattys day celebration and found that most of the restaurants were to go only as they had been open early and were exhausted. We found 6 pence and Keisha came over with a smile and was ready to get us drinks and some much needed food. She was very helpful with food and drink suggestions. The food came out fast and was tasty. The place had a very authentic English Pub vibe. Enjoyed the food, service and ambiance of this place.

Yelp
Who knew there was an authentic English pub in downtown Savannah? Apparently everybody, because this place was packed for lunch! The inside is very authentic and reminded me of several places we visited in London a couple of years back. The food was authentic, and i was really happy to find Welsh Rarebit, as a lot of places don't tend to offer it in the US these days. The food was good, the drinks were good, but I would definitely bring your patience, as you're going to be touching elbows with the neighboring tables. The service was good though, we had multiple servers stopping by to bring food or just check in on us. Overall it was a fun experience after a long morning of sightseeing.

Yelp
We had a tasty lunch when we were out walking about. My spouse had the beef Guinness served in a crock rather than bread bowl and I had the hot roast beef. Both were tasty. Charming pub atmosphere. Friendly service. My added salad was forgotten but that was OK it was not in the bill and I was way more than full!
google avatar

Yelp
Fun spot on Bull Street in Savannah's Historic District. As the name suggests, this is a distinctly English pub, right down to the red phone box outside. They have a nice selection of beers on tap for most any taste. The menu isn't huge but has a number of nice selections. My companion and I stopped in late afternoon and chose to eat light--French onion soup and Italian wedding soup respectively. Service was quick and friendly, and great atmosphere.

Yelp
Went there 30 years ago. Not much changed. Good basic food. Well cooked and excellent service. Just a few blocks from main tourist area. Reasonable choice of mainly Irish beers but really looked like an English pub
google avatar

Shelby M.

Yelp
Loved this place! -great drink selection -the inside is very cool and very british -our waitress was so friendly and helpful -the loaded banger was amazing

Yelp
This place was recommended as part of a tour we went on. We decided to come here on Halloween. The service was great, server was very attentive. We had a couple of Irish Coffees and ordered dinner. The food was a bit underwhelming. I had the French onion soup which was lukewarm and not great. My friends had the Cottage Pie and really enjoyed it. I tasted theirs and it was more on point. I guess that's what I get for ordering French soup at a British pub. Nonetheless we enjoyed the atmosphere and exceptional service!

Yelp
Our 3rd visit to Savannah and this pub is always on list. Classic pub atmosphere, great food and an excellent tap. Make sure to check out the Large Toby Jug collection that spans the back of the bar

Yelp
Atmosphere Service Food ! We were in town for 2 days for a wedding we stumble in for a drink the first day in town and vowed to go back for lunch the next day!! Spicy Bloody Mary was a delicious pairing with the Guinness Beef. Hubby had crab cake. Which in his words was the best he has ever had. Check them out!
google avatar

Jill M.

Yelp
My husband and I sat at the bar and loved the vibes. Such a cool pub. The burgers here are unbeatable. They were so delicious. The staff is great. We asked about the ghosts and the bartender shared her experiences. Will definitely be back!

Nancy P.

Yelp
Good service and they will custom make sandwiches I order. Great atmosphere and the best French onion soup in town. Sometimes finding a parking space can be a challenge but still a great restaurant.

Yelp
Was there today and did not enjoy our visit. The waiter had a poor disposition from the moment we arrived. Food took exceedingly long time to arrive, and lo and behold the food that arrived was not what was ordered. Ok no problem when the waiter finally did return after 10 minutes we let him know the issue. He went supposedly to bring the correct Cesar salad. I suppose that would only take a couple minutes to prepare a Ceasar salad. No, another 10 minutes passes at that point we just had them cancel everything. There was no apology or explanation, still an unpleasant disposition and that was that. So long story short don't expect much from this place. To potential patrons, I am sure you can find much better in a city full of eateries.
google avatar

Derek H.

Yelp
Staff was courteous. Excellent vibe if you looking for a pub. The food was good quality and came out piping hot.
google avatar

Eddie P.

Yelp
This is a beautiful English Pub in the heart of downtown Savannah. It is famous for a part of a movie Julia Roberts was in. The food was very good. The service was lacking. Our server seemed overwhelmed. It was lunch and they were busy.
google avatar

R P.

Yelp
Took a friend there for the his first visit, service was good, my burger was overcooked and his pastrami was . Might have been an off day, the food had always been pretty good.
google avatar

Don M.

Yelp
We don't go out much on Thanksgiving but we decided to this year. We have never been to this restaurant and decided to try it. It was amazingly so good. Our server Farrah was exceptional and the food was delicious. Definitely worth coming here.
google avatar

Yelp
If you want a casual pub that serves good food, generous portions, and has excellent draft (or draught, in British?) pours, Six Pence is for you. We'd been to the Six Pence in Blowing Rock before, but my brother and his wife wanted to try them while visiting Savannah. I didn't want a huge meal, and opted for the loaded banger as my entree. It was perfect for me! My husband had the shepherd's pie. The gravy was delicious, and the potatoes were covered in melted cheese. The salad was really good, too! You can't go to Six Pence without getting one of their draft beers, and my husband enjoyed their black-and-tan. If you don't finish your beverage (or want to take one on the road), they are in a 'social district,' so you can bring it with you in a disposable cup! We'd definitely return.
google avatar

Kirrin P.

Yelp
Six Pence is our favorite spot in Savannah! The staff is always amazing and the vibe is always right on. I always get the pot roast.
google avatar

Holly B.

Yelp
Six Pence is a great local pub that is close to all the beautiful historic homes and has fantastic food. They have indoor and outdoor seating, however the indoor seating is very snug/close quarters. The service is always good, along with the food and drinks. Their chicken salad sandwich is amazing but the star is the potato salad (random I know, but you'll thank me when you try it).
google avatar

Cooper S.

Yelp
Stinks. Service is terrible. The food is mediocre at best. The Harp draft was skunked. This place stinks.
google avatar

Brooke H.

Yelp
Great atmosphere with a traditional British pub menu and decor. I enjoyed the Shepard's Pie and a pint of Harp. It's a smaller place so larger parties might have trouble finding a spot large enough to accommodate your group.
google avatar

Kelly H.

Yelp
The beef stew is probably Dinty Moore canned stew with no doubt instant mashed potatoes on top. Just totally barffy in a town with so many incredible dining options... this place is dreadful!
google avatar

Christie B.

Yelp
I love this restaurant and their chicken pot pie! It's the best I have ever had! Remember, because I forgot; they only serve this dish of deliciousness on Wednesday's. It's a very cozy place!
google avatar

G. R.

Yelp
A great little pub near our hotel at Perry Lane. We ate there twice during our stay. We tried the Shepherds pie, the roast, and salads. It was warm and comforting, and a great vibe. Great service, very comfortable, and a lovely place for a meal or a drink.

Katy H.

Yelp
Amazing service and tasty fast food in a fun atmosphere! Served cold with fresh tomatoes and it made my day. Nice light meal in downtown.
google avatar

Yelp
Crowded, but, okay, it's a Friday night in downtown Savannah, extremely loud, but, okay, it's Friday night in downtown Savannah but 45 minutes for a sandwich with a made-ahead side of coleslaw? not a good look. Positives: coleslaw was delish Service: eh...one pass once we had our sandwiches, forgetting the dessert order placed when sammies were ordered; but, okay, it's Friday night in downtown Savannah with a lot of older wanna be British expats hooping it up in a Pub
google avatar

Ty W.

Yelp
Great pub to visit in Savannah. I have been a couple of times in the past month while being here for school. Shepard Pie, and the Open Face Roast Beef are my top picks.

B E.

Yelp
Oh boy. For a British Pub, the beer selection was poor. We just didn't get any beer. Then, my partner ordered the bangers n mash. It was beyond awful. He just asked the server to take it back and no, don't bring me anything else. He felt that if a pub can't get this basic dish (one of their specialties) correct, he didn't want to roll the dice again. In this British pub... the basics just weren't passable. I ordered a Reuben. The meat seemed as though it were purchased from a deli. The server was hot, sweaty and slovenly looking. It was a disaster. The inside of the restaurant smells funny- musty. We had a table outside but it was off balance and so everything wobbled. Just not great. In a city with so many options- and good pubs- you can skip this one.
google avatar

Claudia A.

Yelp
We went here for drinks only and the service was unmatched. Surprisingly our bartender was new there, great drinks! Ambiance was calm but they told us this pub is a little busier at night !

William F.

Yelp
This is a true gem in the middle of downtown historic district of Savannah! Great English vibe with a feeling you are in the country! Staff kicks ass! Friendly and talkative! Food all I can say is get the pot roast meal! This is just want grandma cooks! Greens, cranberry mash potatoes and gravy. If you drink your ass off and sleep in to miss breakfast hit this joint up at 11am when they open! Your belly and head will be pleased! I am sure everything else is amazing but hey I like the pot roast and stick to it, it never disappoints!
google avatar

Kirstyn J.

Yelp
We only stopped in on a late night walk through Savannah and got a caving for something sweet. The bartender was super nice and the cheesecake was incredibly creamy. Tasted like a New York cheesecake, little tang to it in the best way!
google avatar

Farrell G.

Yelp
Disgusting pastrami sandwich. There was melted cheese on the sandwich which I did not ask for. Also the pastrami looked and tasted old. Would not patronize again.
google avatar

Yelp
We arrived after 8 PM on a Tuesday in Savannah. There weren't a lot of food options still open but the Six Pence pub looked like a cozy spot. I didn't find out until later that it was used in the filming of a movie. The inside is warm and cozy. The menu items are traditional British pub fair. We started with Welsh rarebit. It was tasty and fun with capers, chopped onions, and a nice little savory pickle type condiment on the side. For mains we had pot roast and stewed beef in a crock. Both were very tasty and the portions were hearty. I had the greens with mine. Although the waitress swore they contained no meat they were still quite flavorful. We had a couple small splits of Prosecco as well. we finished up with bread pudding which was very flavorful although it could've used a little more whipped cream. We did have an interesting experience as halfway through the meal my wife's water glass seemingly flew off the table and smashed on the floor. I chalked it up to dripping condensate and a slippery table although the waitress swore that incidents like this happened a lot in the restaurant and were attributable to ghosts. All at all a a very pleasant experience.

Yelp
It's been a while since I've had Six Pence and I'll just say it's been far too long! My husband and I stopped by for a late lunch. I love that they have indoor and outdoor seating. It was a bit too hot for outdoor seating so we opted for the ac! He had the turkey sandwich. It had thick sliced turkey and kettle chips. He really enjoyed it. I had the pot roast sandwich on French bread and swiss added cheese. The roast was tender and flavorful! The bread was soft with the perfect amount of crispy on the outside. I also got mashed potatoes - they were super yummy! We'll be back again soon!
