Very poor and stressful experience with Sixt.
I did not receive the car I had reserved. While driving in a foreign country, asking for a car with Apple CarPlay is a very reasonable request, yet instead of helping, I was repeatedly offered alternatives costing around €1,000 for 4 days. It felt like the focus was on upselling rather than customer service.
In the end, I insisted on taking the car I originally reserved, which was already the most expensive 4-day rental I have ever paid for.
Even though I had pre-reserved a child car seat, I was handed the seat at the counter and sent to the parking area. Already carrying several bags, we had to walk about 500 meters with luggage and the child seat to reach the car.
At the vehicle, we realized the child seat was incorrect (for older children instead of 15 months–4 years). We managed only because our child is large, but this is unacceptable.
The worst part happened on the autobahn: after gaining speed, we noticed the front hood had not been properly closed when the car was handed over. The fear and stress in that moment were unbelievable. This is a serious safety failure.
I had a very good experience with Sixt in Los Angeles, which is why I decided to give Sixt another chance here. Unfortunately, this experience was a complete disappointment — and I will not be doing so again.
