I had the chance to visit Skanderbeg Square in Tirana on Albania’s Independence Day, and it was such a memorable experience. The square itself is a large, open space surrounded by some of the city’s most iconic landmarks, like the National History Museum and the Et’hem Bey Mosque. On that special day, the square was alive with celebrations, music, and a festive atmosphere. It felt like the heart of the city, where everyone gathered to celebrate together.
What I loved most was how versatile the square is. In the morning, it’s a calm and peaceful place where you can sit, relax, and enjoy the surroundings. The design of the square, with its mix of modern and traditional elements, really stands out. There’s plenty of seating and open space, making it perfect for people-watching or just soaking in the city’s vibe.
At night, the square transforms. The lighting gives it a completely different charm, and it feels more lively and magical. On Independence Day, there were lights and decorations everywhere, making it even more special. Whether you want to explore history, enjoy some downtime, or take part in the local culture, Skanderbeg Square offers something for everyone.
It’s a place that blends the old and the new so seamlessly, and it’s clear why it’s such a central part of Tirana. If you’re visiting, make sure to spend time there both during the day and at night – it’s worth it!
