Where to Stay in Stockholm (Updated 2025)

"Recently remodeled with a brand-new, larger common area and kitchen, Skanstull Hostel has super friendly staff, hosts events and offers very comfy beds; it's my second-favorite hostel in Stockholm." - Matthew Kepnes

Skanstulls boutique hostel. This place is literally on Ringvägen, and a stone throw from Götgatan. Those are the budget streets of the Swedish Monopoly game. Not the cheap ones, the medium ones. Almost sounds like parody. I’m totally pleasantly surprised. I thought it would be alright. But it’s much better than that. It’s cosy, there’s great energy, it’s clean, everything works, there’s great showers, people are helpful. And they smile. Where do you even find that nowadays? Only downside is the lack of windows. Or so I thought. So I got one of the few rooms that had a window. I could have saved myself that. Because at the end of the day, I’ve had the blinders down the whole ten day stay. Except for the first few hours the first day. There’s great lighting, it’s cosy and pleasant and well lit. No worries at all, blinders stayed down. Compared to a normal hotel, this is smaller, cleaner, cheaper nicer and comes with smiles. Ok, toilets I had to walk out the door, but they’re right there. Clean too. I probably saved 10000 SEK. “Boutique Hostel” is not parody. It’s truth. And a steal. Warmly recommended. By Anders. With gratitude. Thank you guys 🙏

I see some random bad reviews. I solo traveled with a small private room and I loved it. The room is tiny but it’s perfect for one person. The shower is clean, linens are fresh, several restaurants in the area & about a 7 minute walk to the underground. I would 100% stay again

Absolutely the worst hostel experience I’ve ever had. When I entered my room, there was an unbearable smell, and the room hadn’t been cleaned at all, trash everywhere, and alcohol cans on the floor. A man was sitting inside, and the receptionist later told me he was refusing to shower and was supposed to leave earlier that week. They promised he would be gone when I returned, but he was still there. I was expected to stay alone in a 5-bed dorm with someone who hadn’t showered, wasn’t supposed to be there, and clearly made the room unsafe. When I called the emergency line, they said they couldn’t do anything. I had to leave at night with my belongings and sleep on the floor at a friend’s place. The next day, the staff offered no real solution. They claimed they “forced him to shower” and cleaned the room, which made me feel even more uncomfortable. When I explained that I didn’t feel safe staying with him, they just stared at me and said there was nothing they could do. I’ve stayed in more than 10 hostels across Europe, and this was by far the dirtiest, smallest, and most claustrophobic one. I ended up not staying a single night, yet paid for the entire booking while sleeping elsewhere for 3 nights. Avoid this place at all costs.

For what you pay for, its not bad at all, the service was really nice / convenient and the check-in check-out process was super easy. Excellent location with many stores and restaurants nearby, functioning facilities and proper but small rooms, which aren't bad at all. Working WiFi and clean. Whats not to love?

Great quirky little place. Well located, quiet and very clean. Nice single rooms and great to have cooking facilities. There's also a large coop and a metro station a couple of minutes walk away. Highly recommended.

Hostel is great, clean and the bed is solid but... Room door has the self locking door-lock which is so loud it's impossible to continue sleeping once someone closes the door. So I paid for 3 nights and I slept each night maybe 4-5h only. And yes, I have earplugs but the bang is loud and still I wake up.

Amazing place, good value, great location, well-maintained facilities, nice staff, fast WiFi. The rooms are on the smaller side, which keeps costs down so it's good.

This is without a doubt the best place to stay in Stockholm at this price point. It’s in a prime location in a hip neighborhood with great cafes and restaurants (as well as a grocery store), and just two minutes’ walk to a metro station that will easily get you to all the main attractions. The toilets are all private and the shared showers were all very clean and updated. I never had any issues with getting a toilet or shower when I needed them. I had a private room and it’s quite small, so someone who is tall or heavyset may not find it so comfortable, but I found it just fine. The bed was comfortable and I slept well. No air conditioning but there is a fan. The other guests were all quiet and respectful- definitely not a party hostel vibe. I can’t recommend more!

Yelp
This was actually a pretty nice hostel in Stockholm, Sweden. This was our first experience with a hostel, and it was very pleasant. Our location featured Private hostel rooms with Shared showers/bathrooms. The rooms were a decent size. They comfortably accommodated my mom and I. The shared living spaces were well maintained and cared for. The restrooms and showers were divided by sex. They felt safe and were not crowded. The hostel also featured a Nice kitchen and lounge area. For an introduction to hostels, this was a good buffer between them and a motel/budget hotel. I would honestly recommend this if you don't mind the shared spaces. It was definitely the more price savvy option!

Yelp
At the time I reserved a private room from Skanstulls, the only room available was a 3 person room for my husband and myself. For the price of around US$80/night, I thought the triple was perfectly sized for the two of us as the third bed gave us room to store our luggage, ready our clothes for the next day, and gave us that extra needed breathing room. When I reserved my room, the website said that bed sheets and towels were an extra charge, but when I received the confirmation a few days before my trip, the email indicated that bed sheets and towels were already in my room which meant less for me to carry in my suitcase. Although Skanstulls does not serve breakfast, they do offer a nice selection of loose leaf tea and tea bags to make-your-own tea bag, several refrigerators to store your food, a microwave, a kitchen work center with three stoves, two sinks, drain rack, and storage area for pots and pans, and plenty of dishes. Without a doubt, the kitchen is busy during meal times, but we found that if we had our breakfast before 8am, there was less competition. Were there people who did not clean up after themselves? Of course. But if there were dirty dishes that were in my way or the counter needed cleaning, it was easy to do. If you need to do laundry, there was a washer and dryer, but you must make a reservation for around US$10. As for WCs and showers, there were plenty. As for the women's showers, there was a dip in the floor that caused me to loose my balance because I would forget that it was there and the showers operated by motion sensor which was terribly annoying. I never did figure out how to keep the shower from stopping every couple seconds. Conveniently located near the Skanstulls metro and bus stops (across the street), ICA and Coop grocery stores, restaurants and walking distance to Fotografiska, I wouldn't hesitate to reserve a place here again.

Yelp
Stayed there over the weekend in a private, double room which was absolutely lovely, with a comfortable bed, charming decor and nice, clean bathroom with shower. Location is excellent, about 2 minutes walk from subway station. The only minus was extra charge for sheets, but it was only 50 SEK so, not so bad. Price not bad, considering it's Scandinavia and a Capital City. Definitely recommended.

Yelp
I stayed here back in September when I was backpacking through Northern Europe. Though we only stayed one night, we had a great experience and found it to be very clean and well-kept. The bathrooms were very well taken care of and it was actually the best shower I had during my whole trip! They don't have breakfast, so that's a bit of a bummer. Also, you have to pay extra for sheets, so, be aware of that. The front desk staff were very nice and we had some fun conversations with one of the employees. I would definitely stay here again and highly recommend it!
