On the Grid : SkaraBar

"“Skara” means grill and that’s what you’ll get here. Set in a park behind the theatre, Skara Bar’s sole purpose is to satisfy every carnivore’s demand for mountains of meat. And when we say mountains we’re not kidding. Just order Skara Planina (a pun on Stara Planina, Bulgaria’s vastest mountain range) and you’ll get a kilogram of Skara Bar’s offerings. Beautiful!" - Next Digital Creative

For more than a decade this is the place to eat Bulgarian grill in Sofia. Home-made kyufteta, kebapcheta, real French fries, mackerel, fresh salads, acceptable beer and wines. Top garden. And most of all - reasonably priced which in 2025 is hard to find in Sofia.

Love the place. The food is delicious. The staff is nice. If you are barbecue lover, definitely check it out! I also loves the "shkembe chorba"!!! I love how one can order a normal portion, but also 1 kg from the barbecued meat part of the menu. The location is great - near the center, yet in the nice quieter park... perfect for the summer.

The first reastautant in Bulgaria with a real concept, without the eagerness to sound posh or to be offering something with a modern twist. Proper Bulgarian BBQ, I highly recommend the kebapche, kiufte, or pork chops, like everything on the menu they come with side fries and salad. If you ever wondered how all restaurants in the 70s in Bulgaria looked, you have the answer. Simple, delicious, and you always get the best attitude.

Overall review - excellent • Customer service - great, staff makes you feel welcome and service is fast. - the fast service and the fact that it's located below a theater makes this a great place to eat before a play. • Atmosphere - the Establishment is clean and organized, it has a cozy and light mood, great for casual gatherings with friends or significant other. - I would also recommend it as a place for a small party. - there is music but it's not too loud and it doesn't interfere with conversation - great place for families. • Food - The food is tasty, well seasoned and the portion sizes are good - From the dishes I tried * The beef burger was juicy. The bun was perfect * The beef patty is similar to the burger but without the bread. It was also well made. *Chicken fillet very tender and juicy, unlike any other I've eaten. * The desert - chocolate brownie with ice cream was nice, it was a bit on the dry side but it wasn't too bad, with the ice cream it was good. • Other - Location it's in a great location and it's easy to find - Price as it is in the center of Sofia it is more expensive than other places but I'm my opinion it's worth it. - Hygiene facilities, something that I find very important for a restaurant and I'm happy to say that the facilities that this restaurant offers are great. • Conclusion This is a great restaurant for casual gatherings, it's family friendly and the food is excellent. I would come again

Food is tasty, polite people, good choice to have lunch in the outside seating area.

Small restaurant with excellent grilled food. Place where locals and families go to (no tourists). I went during the winter season and during the warm weather they do have a really nice outdoor seating. The staff was not too friendly and sometimes I felt rushed. Aside from that it is definitely a place I'd go back to for the delicious food and beer.

Great place to eat some grilled meat and traditional Bulgarian kitchen. The food is delicious with a homemade vibe.
