The Best Ski and Spa Resorts for Après Relaxation | Condé Nast Traveler

"Picturesque mountain views are par for the course with ski-in/ski-out ski resorts, and in this regard Skarsnuten Hotel passes the test with spades. Norway’s second-largest ski resort, Hemsedal’s meticulously groomed trails take you through forests and valleys and ultimately drop you at Skarsnuten Spa, where the facilities alone—ice bath, sauna, foot bath, hot tub—may be enough to replenish you after a day covering the Norwegian terrain. But if you’ve made it this far to partake in the adrenaline-inducing vertical sport, you really ought to go for the Mountain Foot Treatment: feet are soaked in a magnesium-enriched tub, scrubbed and massaged, bringing circulation back to barking dogs. Head and hands aren’t left in the cold either, since a tingling scalp and hand massage are a part of the 45-minute service."

When we checked into this hotel (ski resort) the very nice woman who checked us in was surprised that we had found them. I think we were the only English speaking couple in the entire resort. I don’t blame them for wanting to keep this place a local secret. What an amazing resort. We wanted a place to crash for the night 1/2 way on our drive from Oslo to Bergen. What we found was an Oasis. The place was immaculate and the service impeccable: It being summer time, we felt like we had the place to ourselves. We paid a very reasonable price to use the spa which has 2 outdoor jacuzzis, 1 indoor jacuzzi, steam room, and dry sauna. The spa attendant made us feel like we were in 5 star resort in Aspen. We ate supper at the Lynx restaurant and it was fantastic! Just a note…the rooms are not air conditioned which I think normally wouldn’t matter at a ski resort. We slept with the windows open and it was on the warm side of comfortable.

Lovely clean hotel. Very nice food. Customer service at reception upon arrival was not brilliant - maybe some better staff induction would be helpful. Ended up having to pay twice for parking as we weren’t told about the parking garage underneath with charging points until a new staff member in the morning. Otherwise a lovely stay. The spa and pool facilities are additional cost too which we didn’t realise was the norm for Norway!

Very friendly and welcoming staff. We arrived slightly early at 3pm and were able to check in without any issues. The room was spacious, clean, and came with spa bathrobes and flip flops, though we didn’t use them. Towels and bed linens were high quality and super comfortable, and the shower had excellent pressure. Indoor parking was conveniently connected to our floor, which made things very easy. Breakfast was hearty with a great variety. Dinner service was a bit slow, but the staff were attentive, friendly, and spoke good English. Overall, we had a wonderful stay and truly appreciated the warm hospitality.

Beautiful room, nice hotel. The spa gets very busy quickly which diminishes the experience. The service was good but a little slow at times. However, the food was scrumptious and we will forever be dreaming of the spinach pea gnocci and dessert. We stayed two nights with a big dog. We booked the extra dog package and the room came with a nice bed, a toy (to keep), some snacks and two bowls with it!! Fabulous service for our fur babies 🐶. We will happily stay here again. Just a shame it is so expensive during winter…

This is THE worst place i've ever worked. I have been working in the hotel for 9 months. I left the place super stressed, feeling completely taken advantage of, and screwed over. They don't follow the working standards that the rest of the other places in Norway accept as legal. We had signed by contract that stated staff food would be available after a 7 hours shift. Since the first day they told us that they won't honour the contract. We had several times working more than 12 hours without food. And one time I worked over 24 hours without food. Lack of management, lack of empathy, lack of partnership. If you are looking for a place to lose years of mental health and sanity...definitely this place is for you! Or if you don't care at all about being responsible at work, this place is also for you. They don't protect good employees, they dont have your best interest in mind, they will always leave you alone and embarassed in the difficult moments... If you try to make positive changes or propose options to try to change something, they will treat you like you are useless (because they were doing this for 15 years -wrong in my opinion -) and nothing will change! I will be pleased to tell my story to anybody that wants to have more information :) Ps. The nature and the architecture of the place are amazing, it is super sad they have these people on top of it.

Skarsnuten Hotel is a gem! Stunning mountain views, luxurious rooms with cozy beds, and super friendly staff make it unforgettable. Perfect location, top-notch spa, and great food. A must-stay for Hemsedal adventurers.

Awful management. They treat their staff like mules and don’t appreciate the good staff members that they have. They’re sneaks and don’t honour their word. If you win an award trip to Italy for being an exemplary staff member… don’t ever expect to actually get it. And sick leave? Forget about it. They’ll pretend everything is fine until you leave and then hit you with a “we think you made it up” email so there’s nothing you can do to get the money you deserve. You’re going to spend your entire time there fighting for basic staff rights while they come in on the weekends partying in the afterski.

Amazing facilities, team, food (breakfast is amazing), spa is very relaxing and cleaning is superb! The gym is also very nice.||We felt very comfortable at Skarsnuten and the fact of having an amazing team (all staff is amazing) helps a lot when you are at a place far far away from home. They replied fast and detailed on emails even before arrival!! ||Big recognition to the cleaning team that made a perfect job everyday on our room and hotel facilities, everything is very very clean and well preserved.||Thanks to all team
