we decided to finally check this place out on a saturday around 4:30 pm. despite only one person being in front of us, the outdoor seating was already full. inside, there were a few open spots, but it was quite stifling due to the warm weather and the heat coming from the kitchen. the server must have noticed our hesitation because, to our surprise, he quickly set up a bistro table for us outside. it felt like we lucked out, especially since their happy hour, one of the more generous ones i've come across, runs from wednesday to saturday, 2:00 pm to 6:00 pm. we were more than happy to take advantage of it.
we decided to go with the chicken and lamb skewer platter for two. the fries that came with the platter were a standout, perfectly seasoned and incredibly crispy, just the way i like them. the chicken and lamb skewers were packed with flavour, though i have to admit, they were a bit overcooked, which left them a little drier than i would have preferred. the leafy salad was a nice touch, fresh and lightly tossed with salt, lemon and olive oil, offering a refreshing contrast to the meat heavy dish.
the pita and tzatziki were equally enjoyable. the pita was warm and soft, making it perfect for dipping into the creamy tzatziki. the platter for two seemed rather small for two people.
as we sat there, we found ourselves entertained by the little scenes playing out around us. there was a constant stream of out of town cars trying to navigate the alley, a lineup forming at stussy, and even a couple of birds fighting over a french fry on the ground. the cobblestone street, which was closed off to traffic, added a certain charm to the experience, and the overhanging baskets of flowers reminded me of victoria. for a moment, it felt like we were tourists in our own city, soaking in the atmosphere.
just as we were about to wrap up our meal, the server surprised us with four profiteroles filled with cream, swimming in chocolate syrup and topped with whipped cream. it was such a sweet and thoughtful way to end the meal, leaving us with a positive last impression.
all in all, it was a really pleasant way to spend a saturday afternoon. the combination of good food, friendly service, and the simple joy of people watching made for a memorable outing. we left feeling content, already thinking about when we might return to enjoy another relaxing afternoon at this spot.
