The Best Hotels in Copenhagen, From a Boutique Urban Retreat to a Repurposed Brewery

"More Copenhagen hotels we recommend “Relaxed luxury” are the words often used to describe SKT. PETRI, and for good reason. This Latin Quarter hotel received a design overhaul in 2017 by Norwegian studio Anemone Wille Våge, and now the interiors have a soft, glamorous depth that brings new life to the historic architecture. Vilhelm Lauritzen's Modernist-style structure was built as a department store in 1928. Guest rooms have a sultry, regal palette of gold, deep blue, and touches of emerald; a geometric wall covering adds a dash of textural interest and subtle Middle Eastern vibes." - Lauren Jade Hill

Stayed here twice, once before and then after a cruise. First time, check in not brilliant, only 2 receptionists, then one disappeared, returned to get sidetracked by a guest that had asked another member of staff a question, even though there was a large queue we were ignored. When he finally returned, apparently they were just checking our room, we were asked to wait, and after over half an hour later it was another member of staff that noticed we were still sat around and got us our room, not good. When we finally got to our room, it was lovely, nice shower, lovely clean room with a great bed. Early flight meant a packed breakfast, croissant, banana and juice, hmm. Breakfast staff were lovely as were the bar staff. On our return, check in was much better but, personally, the room wasn't. Shower got barely warm, shower head wasn't really secure and there was no waterproof strip on the bottom of the shower screen so there was water all over the floor and since it was a shower over a bath, could have been dangerous. Room seemed too hot and couldn't regulate the air con. Breakfast was a buffet style and had a very good selection, staff again were lovely. Location of the hotel was great in walking distance of a lot of attractions but, unless we were given low quality rooms because, presumably, they give the travel company good discount, I think they need to have a good look at the state of some of the rooms

Google
We loved this hotel and our room, I would recommend it to anyone visiting Copenhagen and would definitely come back! A few things that stood out: -Location: Super central to everything we wanted to walk to including amazing shopping right down the street, good restaurants and parks, and the train from the airport stops only a few blocks away (only a 20 minute ride) -Style: Great moody Scandinavian style with a lot of dark greens and clean looks. The lobby is beautiful -Room: We opted for a room with a balcony which I highly recommend. The balcony was large and overlooked a pedestrian street. The room was also quite large, well appointed, and well-furnished. The only shortfall I'd say was freeze dried coffee crystals instead of real coffee in the room. Noise wasn't an issue at all and the curtains were almost full blackout which was appreciated in a northern summer. The gym in the basement also had a ton of equipment and plenty of space. -Breakfast: This was a well laid out buffet and good coffee options. We found plenty to eat

Google
What a wonderful stay, although going through renovation, nothing was an issue. 8 of us stayed there and they organised a taxi every day for us without hassle, including prearranged time to pick us up from the office. Breakfast was fantastic, staff were wonderful and very attentive, nothing was problem. Will always look to book for next stay

Google
Great hotel with good location and very friendly stuff. Breakfasts are good here, but if you’re late for it - there is a possibility that you won’t find some items there. We faced a construction that was quite annoying is it was next to our room, but generally speaking the hotel is nice.

Google
Had an incredible stay here. There is construction ongoing, but in my opinion it did not impact my stay at all. I never heard construction earlier than 8:30, and even then only when I was in common areas. The staff is what truly made this hotel 5 star. They were so helpful, gave fantastic recommendations, and were just overall so pleasant to interact with. I look forward to staying again.

Google
Hotel under works do not go there until it’s finished! We arrived late, no water in the bathroom, no shower, water bottle was given to flush. Woken up at 7:20 by workers The breakfast was delicious and we were offered a refund for the 2 remaining nights as we wanted to leave to another hotel, that’s what we did.

Philip Walters

Google
Although currently undergoing major building works this did not spoil our stay. The only downside is that because of the work taking place the hotel's restaurant is closed. A good breakfast is still provided but all other meals must be obtained in local restaurants.

Google
We loved the Petri Hotel. The bathroom was large and well laid out and the room was spacious. I liked the wide window sill, as it provided more storage. It is under construction but never loud. The staff were very friendly and the location is close to shopping, sightseeing (such as the Round Tower & the University), and Tivoli! Highly recommend.

Yelp
Absolutely top notch from start to finish. All of the Staff were extremely helpful, from the moment you walk in, to the lobby, everything. Beautiful large, well lit lobby area where they serve an amazing brunch in the morning. I would recommend staying here for the brunch alone. Rooms were really nice, bed comfy. Hotel is in a prime location, you can walk to everything. I spent over a month in Europe in various locations, stayed in various hotels, this place was awesome! And finally, on my way out - (this was almost 2-years ago so apologize for late review). But when I was checking out Copenhagen was supporting the Tour de France, and a major part of the city was closed to road traffic. I had to get the the ferry terminal (to take the ferry to Oslo - which I highly recommend) And the concierge personally helped me with my bags, and walked me to the subway station and made sure I got on the correct train. He was absolutely phenomenal (picture included). I loved this place, and would 100% go back and stay here again.

Yelp
Beautiful hotel in a good location. The room was well appointed, roomy and fashionably decorated. Breakfast is excellent, so many choices and high quality. During my recent visit, there was construction happening directly above my second floor room and it started at 7AM. When I asked the front desk, they were quick to apologize and offered breakfast which was nice. Apparently, the construction was not suppose to begin until 8AM, but it started at 7AM (at least above my room). At least I had to get up around that time, but the noise was shrill and unpleasant. Also, my room was exceedingly warm even with A/C running all night. I'd try the Skt. Petri again, but check to the status of the construction project. 3 stars during my visit, would expect it to be higher next time.

Yelp
Great hotel. Breakfast included. Food, the lobby, large windows that opened out to a small balcony, and decor, I recommend this hotel. Located walking distance to most shops, stores, restaurants and taxi pickup in front of hotel.

Yelp
This place is AWFUL. The customer service is the worst I have ever seen . Specially if Catherine is the manager on duty. She could care less if you are happy or not. As a matter of fact she encouraged me to write a negative review if I wasn't happy so here it is. The room smelled like urine. And the construction noise woke us up at 6am. We had no idea there was construction but she insisted that it's somewhere on their website. Basically no one cared that the room smelled dirty and the construction noise was unbearable. I would definitely not recommend it and will never go back.

Michael M.

Yelp
Decent hotel. The breakfast spread is great, and definitely the highlight. The showers are very small, and our room had an uncomfortable bed. The room was very hot and the provided air conditioning was too loud to use. Unfortunately, the service was pretty poor. I booked direct with one of the common seasonal offers which provides a small dining credit. I mentioned it when checking in, and they told me there was no offer applied. I showed screenshots of the offer that I took when booking, and they refused to apply the offer. It was a really small dining credit (250 DKK/~40 USD) so given the room prices I have no idea why they refused to believe, even given pictures of the booking, that I had booked with the offer. Totally soured the experience, especially given how rude the person doing the check-in was about it.

Yelp
During a recent trip to Greece, i had a 24 layover in Copenhagen so the the wife booked us for one night at this hotel. The hotel is pretty centrally located to the Norresport station so the ride from the airport to the hotel is easy to get to by train or metro. Overall i felt the stay to be comfortable, nothing really spectacular about the rooms. One thing i would say i didnt like is the fact that the rooms dont have dedicated shower. Its really a bathtub with wand attachment which is difficult for someone of any particular height as the splash guard is rather small and not water tight so water kinda gets everywhere. No real ammenities in the room other than some nescafe packets and tea. Everything else is paid. If your just looking for a place to lay your head at night then this place is perfect especially if your goal is to try an see as much of the city as possible. One positive is that the place is really close to this food hall just a few blocks away where you can find some great eats. I will say this as well, the front desk service is great, folks are very friendly and helpful and can provide a lot of recommendations.

Yelp
Beautiful Hotel, great service, Amazing breakfast and wonderful, prompt front desk service but the room I booked online (which was the superior room with a bathtub*) was not the room we were escorted to (this room was extremely small/cramped and did not have a bathtub) and we had to be moved to the correct accommodation but we were told that both rooms are superior rooms under the same price but one was much different in size and amenities which seemed odd to me. Once we were moved to our correct room I also noticed the room was not cleaned thoroughly. The teacups were used and dirty and there was crumbs on the table. It also seemed as if the linens may have been reused as there was a hair on the sheets. I don't like to assume such a thing but it was unusual. We had to call housekeeping to make sure things were corrected and for the price we paid for the room I was pretty disappointed in that as I came in from 14 hours of flying and walking my luggage through downtown.. all I wanted was to relax with some tea and take a bath so it was aggravating to have to ask to have our room properly prepared. Other than those challenges it was a wonderful stay. Its pricey, and I feel that for the money, there are other comparable options that I can get more for the same price as far as amount of time and location but I would stay here again only if it was a promotional deal or something but I don't feel that the price represents a huge difference in quality from competitors besides the decor, and the breakfast is a separate charge so that isn't included as an amenity. However the breakfast buffet is lovely and definitely worth the money. Next time I will surely call ahead when I book rooms online to assure that everything is in place. The staff was kind, courteous swift and accommodating and I was very appreciative of it.

Yelp
I'm a professional traveler and one would call a jet setter, so my review is pretty weighty. I've visited this hotel 3 times and it keeps getting better with every visit. Rooms are CLEAN, quiet, decorated in comfortable modern decor, front desk staff is gracious and always glad to help. All benefits of a business hotel with fast internet and lovely writing desk in room. Excellent mini-bar and gorgeous breakfast with a wide variety of traditional European pastries, meats, cheeses, fruits, juices, coffees and mimosas... Not to mention, it's setting is in the naturally lit lobby so feel the organic energy of being outside with the comfort of contemporary decor. A true home away from home and always look forward to visiting Copenhagen so I can stay here...

Yelp
My second stay at SKT. PETRI. Beautiful hotel in an excellent area. Very close to the train that takes you to the airport and walking distance from all major sightseeing. The lobby is absolutely stunning. Perfect mix of contemporary minimalist design with a homey warmth of a boutique hotel. They have a bar as well as a restaurant that serves buffet style breakfast. I had breakfast a bunch of times and the choices were excellent! The second time I stayed here (for business) was upgraded to a nicer room. The room was pretty good size, bathroom very spacious. The bed very comfortable. Overall it is a very nice hotel that I would definitely recommend.

Yelp
We had a very nice stay at this hotel during July. The location is awesome - walking distance from the metro and endless restaurants and shops. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Huge plus that they offered working air con (which is not prevalent in Denmark) We had the deluxe room, which offered an exterior view with lots of light. Our room also include breakfast daily in either the lobby for buffet style, or the restaurant on the street level which as a-la-carte. The buffet style breakfast was great! Super impressed with the cool espresso maker and juice dispenser. The food at the lobby restaurant was hit or miss. We had an excellent meal our first day. The second day we returned we waited over 45 minutes for poached eggs only to hear from the server that the chef was having trouble making poached eggs. She suggested an omlette instead. The omelettes were really greasy so we left without finishing our meal. Despite the miss during one of our meals, we still really enjoyed our stay, and though it was excellent value for what we paid for.

Yelp
This ranks as one of the best hotels and was so reasonably priced for Copenhagen. The service, Breakfast Buffet and the concierge service was so pleasant. I am so glad I didn't waste my money on more expensive hotels.
google avatar

Yelp
We were very happy with the location here (probably the best feature) and the ability to rent bikes--they had plenty of them available, though bummer it was $25 per day per person. The room was bright and clean, staff was nice. Disappointed that they didn't replace the water daily and there was one flat, one sparkling. The shower was so damn tiny you could hardly turn around and no matter what you did, it leaked all over the floor. The walls/ floors carry the sound of others steps very clearly as well. One of the best things is the breakfast buffet--we should have just included that in our booking, because I think it was more expensive this way. It was a huge breakfast buffet w/ a chef making omelets, a loose leaf tea section, lots of options for coffee drinkers, tons of meats and cheeses, scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage, smoked salmon, smoothies, juices, including ginger shots (new to us, and loved it) and plenty of breads and pastries.

Yelp
Location is great, downtown right in the center of things. I really wanted to like this hotel because I'm sick of staying at the Marriott, but I don't think I'll stay here again. The refurbished rooms are nice, but small and the showers are cramped. Other reviews I have seen have complained about the pillows, which seems silly but they really are the worst. Ridiculously too soft and cheap, and there are no alternatives available. Finally, I understand there is construction going on, but is it really necessary for it to start at 7am? And continue until after 10pm? Right now I am lying in bed at 10:05 trying to sleep with drilling and hammering going on close by. Looks like I'll be back in the Marriott next time.
google avatar

Michaela D.

Yelp
This hotel does not deserve its 4 star rating!!! There is currently construction going on inside the hotel that starts at 8 am. It's horrible!! For your own sanity, stay in a different hotel. They do not warn you about the construction. We stayed in a newly remodeled room and it was even worse because the construction was happening right above us. Also, the newly remodeled rooms are not good. While the decor is nice, the bathrooms do not seem to be fixed up. The toilet is old and dirty and the shower takes forever to get warm. And I mean longer than it should, like around 10 minutes. The first night I took a cold shower because I was too tired to wait (we had just flown in). The sink fixtures seem new, but they are bad too. The faucet is too short and it's hard to fit your hands underneath it. The only good things about this hotel are not unique and could be found anywhere else in Copenhagen. It has nice workers (but so does every hotel in Denmark) and it has a decent breakfast. So it has the most basic levels of what a decent hotel should be. The rooms are regular hotel rooms, but with exceptionally small pillows. The lights in the room don't work, however. They're too bright and most of the switches don't do anything. There is no dresser in the room either. Oh, and the WiFi sucks. The location is not great, it is pretty far from Tivoli, Christiania, the Little Mermaid, or really anything else you probably came to Copenhagen to see. DO NOT STAY HERE. I write this as I lie awake from the obscenely loud construction noises that no one warned us about. Please spend your money elsewhere. This hotel is awful and not worth your money.

Yelp
We were lucky enough to get this hotel on Hotwire, and it didn't disappoint. We thought it was a fantastic deal especially for the location, the staff, and the amenities. We were able to check-in early, and they offered us a great deal if we upgraded to a room with a balcony which we jumped on. We got a room on the top floor (7th) and while the balcony was not very large, it was really nice to be able to open the door and sit outside to check out the temperature and just relax. The location was great - very close to a metro stop which was a convenient way to get to and from the airport. We also thought the staff was super friendly and helpful. We tried the breakfast buffet our last day there and it had a great variety of items which was delightful. It was expensive, so I'm glad we didn't discover it the first day because we would have probably eaten there every morning. Highly recommend!

Donna F.

Yelp
We stayed here twice in the last few months. It is located right in the middle of the city, we walked everywhere. The staff is friendly and very helpful. They made suggestions for dinner and reservations for us. The breakfast buffet is fantastic. Freshly made to order omelets, lots of healthy choices and delicious breads, meats and cheeses! We will definitely be back the next time we are in Copenhagen!

Panda Maria C.

Yelp
Great location (5 min walk from Norreport Metro station, less than ten min walk to Nyhavn), friendly staff. I think the renovation is complete and I hear or see no sign or construction. Room is clean and yes it is small but this is central copenhagen and I do not expect to spend a long time in the hotel anyways. Mattress is hard enough for my taste, pillows - no issues! Despite of the small room, bathroom is not small. It is not large but good size (my room does not come with full bath - but I read somewhere that it is not common to have a full bath in Danish household). It is not cheap to stay here- but comparable to same level hotels. Breakfast buffet is pretty good so it may be an idea to get a room with breakfast included. Recommended!

Sam O.

Yelp
The hotel is doing some construction work that is really distracting us from seeing the place entirely. No major noises but scaffolding on the outside is hiding a part of the hotel structure. We were staying on the second floor which is also the floors where the conference rooms are. It made me feel a bit confused as it really looked like a leisure hotel turned to a business center. The lobby is nice and modern while the rooms are more contemporary style. I got lost twice while trying to reach the ground floor as no signs are available in the hallways. The staff is non existent mostly because the lobby is on the 1st floor and the entrance/exit is on the ground floor, so you get in from outside without being greeted by anyone. The toiletries are uninspiring, no slippers or bathrobes and no complimentary water. The bathroom has a glass door looking onto the bed, the toilets has 2 doors but when you turn on the light of the toilets, the entire bathroom lights up. Not practical. The location is the best thing about the hotel.

Yelp
Summary: I struggled between a 3.5 and 4, settling on 4. A trendy feel to the location, great morning buffet and nice staff. The room sizes and shapes really vary so read below. Check-in: They are use to travelers from all over and are happy to get you into your room for an early check-in. Staff is polite and helpful. Oddly in Denmark, there doesn't appear to be a bell service concept. The Vibe: Being approve this hotel for folks that want modern and clean. Bar Rouge - a name that took me back to my Shanghai party days - was cool place for a drink, though sadly doesn't get the attendance such a nice lobby bar should get. The Breakfast Buffet: I liked this better than some of the places I stayed at. They offer a wide selection of fruits, breads, and all sorts of stuff. Excellent coffee machine. Morning newspapers are available in front of the buffet area. Rooms: I had a superior room which was small, though not for Copenhagen standards at 22 square feet-ish. In my room, the bath was a really good size with a nice tub and layout that made it feel roomy. Soap, lotion and shampoo is there. Nothing memorable. I checked out a few other rooms such as the junior suites which is really quite large, with a separated living and dining area. The one I saw faced out a bit and had a nice view. Some of the rooms have balconies. Location: This is really in a fantastic location. You can take the train to Norreporte from the airport. The shopping areas are a quick stroll down the street. While the coffee machine, as I mentioned is excellent, there happen to be three wonderful nearby spots that one can find a nice spot to read a book or work on a laptop. For joggers you're a little far from the lakes where people run, but it's not too far. Other: Bikes can be rented downstairs. Also, I noticed someone saying its hard to get a cab in their review. The hotel must have reacted to this, because while I was there, I always saw a steady group of cabs in front of the hotel. Additionally, there is a nice wait area upstairs where water is available. The downside: The elevators were a problem at times. Almost everyone staying there got notably confused and it was partially because they had varying degrees of really registering the cards. Additionally, most of the modern is achieved in the shared spaces. the room is... just a room. I can totally see why someone might have said the hype was greater than the rooms themselves. Still likely deserves 4 stars.

Yelp
So this 'update' is about the staff. Although, this review about the staff should apply to ALL other people whom I've come in contact with in Denmark so far. I can only say that the people, especially in the service industry (i.e., hotel, restaurants, coffee shops and other stores) can learn from how Danes do it. I've learned that the wages are higher here among the service industry people unlike the ones in the US who usually get the minimum wage plus tip. You'd think they'd be eager to serve to earn more tips because their income heavily relies on the tips they get; unfortunately, this isn't the case. Anyway, everyone here greets you with a smile and is eager to go above and beyond and comes across very genuine BECAUSE they are not expecting to get a tip. That doesn't mean that you shouldn't give any. Tip, after all, is a gesture that someone's done an exceptional job.

Yelp
Worst disappointment ever. i suppose if St. Petri hadn't been quite so talked and written about, my expectations might not have suffered so greatly. Tiny stuffy rooms, im-personal entrance hall void of any human atmosphere. The nicest thing about the place was the staff. But then they get payed to be there. Don't go there unless they give you a really good deal - after all, the location is great.

Kro B.

Yelp
It has been a terrible stay! Zero service from day 1 (we had to call someone to help us with the luggage), dirty rooms when we arrived. My kids even had asthma because of the dust! No service at breakfast: nobody to help us to find a table, we had to look after one staff to clean table, we had to spend one hour everyday to eat there. Decoration of the lobby is nice, but rooms have no light and bathrooms are so old (max 3 stars hotel value). It is all superficial, do not expect any luxury service here, they don't know what it really means anyway! It is all about appearance: a nice lobby decoration!
google avatar

Maria B.

Yelp
The hotel is fine. Perhaps a 4/5 stars. The bar is really good with delicious cocktails and a good DJ from time to time. The restaurant has a cool atmosphere but the food is nothing special, the time we waited for our food was too long and it's a bit too expensive compared to what you'll find around at the same price level.
google avatar

Jason B.

Yelp
so this place is rated as a five on many sites and a 4 on others. its a straight 4 and I've stayed at a bazillion hotels and worked at a 5 star right out of college. main reasons its not a 5 is because of the damaged head board and the big stain on the closet curtain. staff is super friendly and was good all around. the lighting switch is in an awkward place. room service menu was not exciting at all. i wish it had more variety esp when you have so much competition outside the doors given the location its in. location is amazing. if visiting cph try to stay south of the main bus station
google avatar

H. H.

Yelp
Great location and friendly staff, but could use renovations in the rooms. The beds are really comfortable but the rooms (window size small) can be a bit dark. The main lobby is bright and open, with a bar and solid restaurant. Bike rentals right out front. Central enough that you are no more than a 20 minute walk anywhere in the city.

Yelp
Stayed here for a business trip. The room service food is OK, but room service overall was very quick with any request I had. Room was clean and toiletries constantly refilled. Safe was easy to use and to figure out. I found the concierge extremely helpful. They tried to check me in earlier so I wouldn't have to wait around until noon for my room to be ready but both the manager and the bellman told me it would be best to wait if I was a non-smoker since the room stank like old cigarettes. Grabbing a cab from the front of your hotel is fruitless - call a cab company instead otherwise you will be waiting FOREVER. Bed was comfy - a king in 1 piece (yay). My shower didn't have a curtain or a door which I'm finding is pretty standard overseas. My co-worker had a standing shower stall AND a tub - lucky bastard! Overall a good stay and in a can't beat location.

Kit W.

Yelp
We just got here, this is a warning to future travelers. We got here about 4pm only to have them tell us one of our prepaid rooms was not ready (check in was 3, and they asked us when we were arriving in advance). Then they finally got us the rooms, but it wasn't the room that we pre-paid for, with a balcony. He told us the balcony isn't guaranteed although it was clearly guaranteed when we made the reservation and they took our money. If you're not ready to make a scene, I wouldn't bother staying here. He had to go talk to his manager, to see if he could get us the room that we had already paid for, but did make time to tell us that we couldn't have a late check out and that the 100 kroner daily credit they gave us when we booked expired each day so use it or lose it. Offered us nothing while he worked to get us what he paid for. I'll review stay later, but it is definitely not what I expect from a supposedly luxury hotel.

Reinholfd M.

Yelp
I had booked two rooms based on published reviews and based on the hotel's location. We were traveling with friends and planned for two days in wonderful Copenhagen after an 11-day cruise from Bergen. The location is indeed very good. Pricing of rooms and services, and appearance of reception floor at first sight seemed to be in line with the "luxury" designation. Beyond that Skt Petri was a great disappointment, and the only low point on our entire trip. Our rooms on the 5th floor had bathrooms that were in disrepair with mold growing on the grout between tiles, toilets not flushing effectively, very low water pressure in the shower, and slow-draining sinks. The rooms were unclean with some of the furniture and accessories beyond their intended time of use. The supervisor I talked to seemed to agree that Skt Petri needs room renovations. The current price-value offering we experienced is simply not competitive.
