Soooo, I've tried Sky twice under the new management. My first review of the O.G. Sky was 5/5. It was our local spot, amazing food, and we would regularly go once a month. Unfortunately....not anymore.
Tried it first when they changed hands and didn't care for it but didn't write anything just in case they were new at working things out. This time, almost a year later, No difference. First thing, when you walk in, it doesn't have that same nice restaurant feeling. I saw their cleaning station occupy a table towards the back and it reminded me of a lower quality Chinese restaurant. My spider sense told me to leave but we stayed. We ordered the spicy edamame. It had a nice taste to it, but weak. Like it could've had more of the sauce/seasoning on there. It just wasn't enough to wow us. We all ordered salads, entrees. The funny part....our sushi order came out before the salads did, that was a first. Which made like three items come out all at once to eat. I hate that. Separate them
Salad was fine, we didn't care for the crunchy noodles on top. Got one wrong but fine. My sushi, the play boy roll, was ok. They lit the plate and just walked away, I'm fine with that bc I had a small stint waiting tables at a sushi restaurant back in the day but I do think that is a safety hazard for others. It had too much of the mayo sauce or yum yum sauce on it. Also almost every sushi item has eel sauce here. Like a lot of them did so I guess they love that.
The chicken hibachi my daughter ordered was bland. It didn't have the hibachi taste at all. The rice really needed some seasoning. It also came with the yum yum sauce and not the traditional ginger and mustard dipping sauces. The best entree was the jalapeño fried rice with chicken. That was actually good. It had probably one or 2 full jalapeños in there.
What bothered me was the $2 up charge for the spicy to be added to the edamame. Like really? The whole jar of sauce is prob $5-10. Then even the jalapeño fried rice, up charge to add chicken. The OG Sky had the best fried rice in LR and it came with chicken, always. If anyone thinks I'm being cheap on the price I can promise you I'm not. We go out every weekend and money isn't an issue. Compared to other restaurants they don't up charge for spicy. I do think $6 for a small salad is a lot too but that's not that big of a deal.
It wasn't that busy on a Thursday night. Like 6 tables were full up. I hate to give this 2 stars. It's really worth one but I didn't want to be mean. Sadly won't be back again. I think Kemuri will have our dedication from now on.
