I visited Sky Top Orchard for the first time in about 10 years, and sadly the experience was nothing like what it used to be.
Years ago, this orchard was peaceful and charming. They gave you baskets and you could wander freely through the orchards, pick as many apples as you wanted, and pay by the pound. The setting by the bamboo forest was serene, with animals nearby that made it feel wholesome and welcoming.
This time, it felt completely different. The orchards were fenced off and locked unless you purchased a $30 plastic bag, which is the only way to access the u-pick area. The baskets are no longer offered. On top of that, they were running apple cannons that made loud, gun-like blasts throughout the day — very distracting and anything but peaceful.
I had planned this trip especially to bring my grandkids because it was a family tradition for me and my children to come every fall. I drove several hours to get here and the change in atmosphere and the commercialized setup made it so disappointing!!! What once was a simple, authentic orchard experience has become crowded, noisy (like visiting a gun range) , and overpriced. Bad move Sky Top, we won’t be back or recommend. VERY DISAPPOINTED!
