Our tour group took the mighty, Lord of the Isles ferry to the picturesque Isle of Skye. It is a stunning, natural wonder in North West Scotland. People come here to camp, but we stayed at a quaint Scottish hotel. Be aware that there are very limited places to stay on the isle; as only about 9,000 people live there. We landed in south Skye and our bus picked us up the next day and we drove back to the mainland from the bridge on the eastern side of the island. We even saw a tiny, one car ferry.
Skye is the largest island in the inner Hebrides archipelago of the many, rugged western Scottish islands. You can stay in the town of Portree on the big isle to explore it. Our bus toured us past the rugged mountains, coastline, waterfalls, castles, distilleries, cliffs and lochs. The highlight for me was when we stopped to see a herd of Highland coos. They were absolutely gorgeous, super cute, shaggy cows and they came running to see us in excitement.
On our way to Skye, we talked to a lovely, young Scottish lass working in a shop and she asked us where we were going. We told her the Isle of Skye and she told us that she always wanted to go there. Go visit the isle of Skye, it’s spectacular.
