A nice place in the great outdoors. The staff are so friendly, a big shout out to Jeff who drives the shuttle. Do not judge the rooms by the dark brown exterior. My room had a lovely balcony and a very comfortable bed. Good lighting and a great shower. The restaurant has a little different type of menu, but there were healthier options. A very cute gift shop as well. Two gorgeous sunsets.

I stayed at the cabin while traveling alone on business, and it was an amazing experience. The beds were soft and comfortable, the rooms clean and inviting, and the view was beautiful. I felt completely safe and at ease throughout my stay. The staff were kind, professional, and very attentive, which made everything smooth and stress-free. Another highlight was how close the cabin is to hiking areas like Stony Man—it was easy to fit in a quick hike and enjoy the mountain scenery between work. My internet was great. There are no televisions. It was the perfect balance of comfort, convenience, and hospitality. I would absolutely recommend this cabin to anyone—whether for business or leisure.

My husband and I just got back from a two night stay at Skyland. I have been wanting to stay there for years. In general, our stay was very nice. We reserved a "Premium" room and were assigned a room in Raven's Nest. There are a total of eight buildings that have premium rooms. The room was clean, but definitely rustic. We were given a room on the first floor and I regret that I didn't ask if we would have a balcony. Our room opened up to a patio, which did not feel private. Also, the view would have been better from the second floor. If you are hoping for a nice view from your room, make sure you ask to be placed on the second floor. You might have to carry your suitcases up a flight of stairs, but that would have been worth it for me. We loved waking up, eating breakfast, and then heading directly to one of the many trails available near the lodge. During our stay we had three meals in the Pollock Dining Room (2 breakfast, 1 dinner) and one dinner in the Taproom. Dinner last night (Saturday) in the Taproom was chaotic. They were definitely short staffed for the amount of people who wanted to eat there. The staff was great, but simply could not handle the crowd. The whole meal felt very stressful and we couldn't wait to leave. I was surprised that we never saw any type of manager attempting to help the servers or bartender. Our dinner on Friday and breakfast on Saturday morning were wonderful. Food was good and the view spectacular. Attached is the view we had a dinner on Friday night. If we go again, I would brings some backup food to our room so we wouldn't be forced to eat in the dining rooms. Also, plan to eat early before the rush arrive (prior to 6:30pm). Lastly, if you have a choice, opt to eat in the Pollack Dining Room even if you have to wait. Otherwise, enjoy your time in the beautiful mountains.

This was my first time staying at the Skyland Lodge and I thoroughly enjoyed it! I stayed in a premium room on the lower level of the lodge, and the room had a charming, rustic appeal and I also had a perfect view of the mountains. I only enjoyed one night there as I was leaving early the next am to drive to Big Meadows to hike. My entire stay in the Shenandoah National Park was lovely and I will be back again!

The view from our room was amazing. We were able to enjoy the sunset right from our balcony. The location was great as well. It was perfect for our short stay. The room on the other hand was lacking. The AC didn't work properly, there was thick grime on the shower walls, the outside of the sink was either filthy or stained. The refrigerator door was left open and was warm when we arrived. We had to wait several hours for it to cool down to a usable temperature. The room was extremely over priced for what you get.

I have been coming to Skyland Lodge for decades but it had been 10 years since staying here. We stayed in a premium room in Birmingham (room 115). The view from our back balcony was great. Got to watch the sun set and the lights come on in the valley. There was a small fridge, coffee maker, hairdryer, iron, ironing board, and big screen TV. The tiled bathroom was large and with a great shower. We had neighbors next to us but it was quiet all night. It was a bit of an uphill walk to the dining room. Glad we had a flashlight to help us get back to our room. Only downside was the king sized bed was a bit stiff. It took awhile to get comfortable and sleep. (Note: if you are traveling with kids, Birmingham is directly across from the children’s playground and within walking distance of the amphitheater.)

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ “A perfect Father’s Day getaway — nature, family, and just enough comfort” We stayed at Skyland over Father’s Day weekend, and it couldn’t have been a better choice. I wanted to spend time with my family in nature — hiking, watching wildlife, breathing fresh mountain air — without giving up basic comforts like indoor plumbing, lights, and a warm shower. Skyland delivered on all fronts. The views from the lodge are unreal — you’re literally perched above the valley with sunsets that look like they belong on a postcard. We hiked Stony Man and saw deer, wildflowers, and even a few hawks soaring overhead. The kids were amazed, and I loved seeing them unplug and fully engage with the outdoors. Our room was rustic but clean and cozy, with everything we needed to relax after a long day on the trails. Having a real bed, bathroom, and electricity while still being surrounded by nature was exactly the balance we were looking for. The dining room was a pleasant surprise — good food, great service, and that famous blackberry ice cream made for a fun Father’s Day treat. If you’re looking to get away from the noise, reconnect with your family, and still enjoy a few modern conveniences, Skyland is a fantastic spot. Father’s Day weekend at Skyland might just become our new tradition. — A happy dad who left with a full heart and muddy boots

Our stay had a few bright spots, but overall it was a very disappointing experience. On the positive side, I really enjoyed the stables and the property’s proximity to some beautiful hiking trails. The lack of cell signal could be either a pro or a con, depending on whether you want to disconnect or need to stay in touch. Unfortunately, the negatives far outweighed the good. The cabin smelled bad, had ants, cobwebs, and bugs, and wasn’t properly cleaned until we complained. The bathroom also had bugs, the shower sprayed water everywhere, and the heating system felt dangerous — it seemed like someone could easily get hurt. We were promised a nice view but had none, and the outlook from the cabin was frankly abysmal. The kitchen was poorly equipped, with no plates, cutlery, or even soap, and the fridge was too small. There was also no fireplace as advertised. Service was inconsistent and frustrating. Breakfast ended abruptly at 10:00 a.m.; we arrived at 10:05 after rushing to check out and were refused any food, even though my 8-year-old just wanted French toast. At dinner, we weren’t given water until after entrées were served. On one evening, I was suddenly carded and denied alcohol, despite having been served without issue on the three prior nights. Why card certain people and not others? The inconsistency felt arbitrary at best and discriminatory at worst. Some of the staff were kind, but others were inattentive or dismissive, and their behavior really hurt the experience. Combined with the unsanitary conditions, unreliable service, unsafe amenities, and misleading descriptions, I lost my appetite and could not enjoy the stay. After also reading about the property’s history, which came across as exclusionary, I felt even more uncomfortable supporting it. Sadly, despite a few redeeming features, I cannot recommend this place without hesitation.
