Nice park. Nice disc golf course one could play. Trail marking could be a little better as not all shown are accessible. Also, trails are a bit rocky. If you're an experienced mountain biker that likes hills, then they were fine. Ebikes would have a bit of a problem. The Lake Marie at the end of one of the trails was nice; about 1.5 miles upwards and took at least 45 min each way. Outhouse about half way was available. 2 showers and 2 restrooms are available... they need upgrading. Lady at front kiosk was very friendly. If you're biking to town, the road has no bike party and the traffic is a little fast. Large native garden area.

Google
wide open space with courtesy and helpful staff on site. Animal friendly but lots of burs so the doggies have to be thoroughly checked since the paws collect them very quickly. Even the dog run was not immune from the burs .

Google
Excellent park, complete with RV Hook Ups, California Native Gardens, clean restrooms and showers and over 25 miles of hiking trails. Entry fee $6.00. Hiked the Skyline Park Perimeter Loop Trail @ 10 miles. Well marked & maintained trail. Very enjoyable hike, saw a rafter of 20 turkeys, several deer, very large squirrels, California Newt, Red Tail Hawks, Kestrel, Red Head Acorn Woodpeckers. & California Quail.

Google
Such a cool park! Alot of wildlife and a bunch of awesome trails. These trails were a bit rough, i did the skyline trail but the views were amazing!

Google
Our favorite place to stay with our RV in Napa area. Lovely setting with easy options for walking our dog. Great staff, always warmly greeted. Nothing fancy but with everything we need. Plus close to wine tasting!

Google
Nice park with 25+ miles of hiking trails and close proximity to Napa. We hiked the Skyline Trail up to Lake Marie. Saw 5-6 deer while hiking. Weather was in low 70s at 10 am mid August which made a for a nice day to hike. The area seemed a bit dry due to not much rain but I imagine this area is beautiful during spring time.

Google
Great place to hike or mountain bike. Dogs aren't allowed on the trails.Excellent views of the Napa Valley. Including a disc golf course, an interesting garden area to walk through . The pictures are from Manzanita Trail and Thatcher Trail

Google
Excellent park and would come here again. This is a great spot to go hiking if you are here on a long weekend and need to kill some time before heading out to wineries. Parking is $6 for cars up to something like 8 people. Cards are accepted. I only hiked here, but there are other facilities including RV camping, tent camping, dog run, mountain biking, and disc golf. Note that dogs are not welcome on trails but are okay in the camping sections of the park. A full end to end hike of the park around the perimeter trails will take upwards of 5-6 hours. The Western trails are a mixture of wooded and exposed trails. Eastern trials are really exposed and can be VERY steep in sections - I would attempt these only if you are in very good shape and have lots of water. Trails down the center of the park are a little more forgiving for those with children. Trails are probably not suitable for those with strollers. Great views and would come here again if I'm in the area.

Yelp
Skyline has ample parking, well-maintained bathrooms, lots of trails, and campground at the base of the trails (looks like mainly equestrian camping). No dogs allowed in trails, even on leash. Maybe that's because of the equestrian focus, but I've seen dogs and horses allowed on trails together at East Bay Regional Parks and it seems fine. That would be my only complaint. Otherwise it's a great park

Yelp
Brought our trailer to Skyline for a couple nights to enjoy the Napa area. A little pricier for a campground but still affordable accommodations for the area. Paid $80/night for full hookups during the week. We did not experience any of the negative things that some of the poor reviews on Yelp described. No complaints here. Check in staff was very friendly as was one of the camp hosts and the golf cart attendant checking on us upon checkout. I do believe in general, employees are usually friendly when customers are not being a pain. So I don't put a lot into poor reviews here not knowing the whole situation or attitude behind the reviewer. It's the end of June so of course the park is dry and not green anymore like the spring months and previous photos. Ive included some here to see what it looks like in the summer. We hiked up the hill but didn't really explore much else as we were out and about in town most of the time. Enjoyed having a trail to hit to get some movement in after a day of indulging in delicious food and drink. Nice views of the surrounding properties and vineyards.

Yelp
This was a fun and semi challenging hike for a beginner like me. Hiked a total of 5.5 miles. Half of it was uphill. Loved to challenge myself! Views were spectacular! Trail was very easy to follow with signs to guide you. Watch out for mountain bikers! They come by fast downhill!

Yelp
Nice park! Been here for hiking a few times. A variety of trails, shady and sunny bits... some sections more hilly than others. The occasional bicycle on some of the trails is fine because everyone has been super courteous. They slow down when approaching, ring their bell, and say excuse me or hello... Unlike in Marin where they practically run you over! So I really appreciate that. I do think $6 to park is a tad much but I know it must be expensive to keep this place open and it is really clean so I understand. Plus, unlike an experience I had at a free park in the East Bay, I haven't had my window smashed and stuff stolen out of my car here. So $6 is worth it. I will say the staff at the front gate that take your money are really grumpy and like to ignore you. Been here like four times already and three of the times they were in the little building chatting or doing who knows what for several minutes before acknowledging my presence and taking my $6. This last time there were several cars behind me by the time they came to the window! They also don't always give a receipt which is odd because how else will I prove I paid if they ask?

Yelp
We stayed at the RV park. The staff are helpful. The park advantages are it's in nature and there are trails. The RV park itself is dusty from the use of low quality gravel, the PVC and the wood picnic tables are disintegrating, and a bathroom toilet has a painted plywood lid so money is spent elsewhere rather than maintaining this place and at $80 a night with full hookups this is not up to standard even at a $50 price. The spaces are a tight with slides about 4' apart.

Yelp
Hidden gem. Nature's best. Nice campsites, full hookups, picnic tables, shade, the nature garden and friendly hosts. Quiet and very close to downtown Napa. A perfect spot to come back to every night. Lots of amenities.

Muoi H.

Yelp
Been to Napa multiple time for hiking but finally hike this trail ' Quite a hidden gem with spacious parking and bathroom with soap ! We did the skyline loop adding up to 7 miles ! Will definetly hike this trail more often especially during the differ season!

Yelp
Stayed in the RV park for a couple of nights. We were lucky in that we had no one parked on either side of us for most of our stay, otherwise it would be a very tight fit. We did have a neighbor arrive late on out second night, the sites are so tight that you can hear each other's conversations. The sites are graveled/dirt. Most sites do offer full hook ups bathrooms and showers are available. Both were clean. Area is nice and quiet and we did have a deer come thru our site. Stars lost on the extreme compactness of each site.

Steve H.

Yelp
Great mountain bike trails, many are single track. Parts are very challenging but also rewarding. Recommend Soscol Headwaters trail for fantastic views of Bay area including Golden Gate bridge towers in clear weather.
google avatar

Michael W.

Yelp
This is a really park trail but I am not a Napa native which but that's okay because I managed to come here with my mum and her awesome cousin who was in the Bay Area on a business trip. It's a lot more peaceful here and you start out easy on the bike but it later gets intense here. If you are a diehard cyclist this place shouldn't be so troublesome. Be warned there is tough terrain so please exercise caution on the bike. I have been riding my bike for a year and this place is no stress for me. That's what I call persistence. If you are hiking, you too must also bring your A game because the hiking skill level can be really tough here as well. I would come here again if possible because this seems like the right location to enjoy a great time with family.

Yelp
great trails as long as you have a GPS to keep you on track. there is good signage, but the trails are grown over in many places. there's a decent mix of shade and sunshine. plenty of interesting volcanic geology to see along the way. nice views. watch out for the bikes, but most of them are very courteous and ring the bell as they approach. This is a privately owned wilderness Park. Plenty of picnic tables and even an ultra clean public bathroom.

Yelp
Skyline is an absolute gem in the Napa Valley. Wonderful location for hikes, bikes, and disc golf! It's an amazing open space, tucked up against the beautiful foothills of Napa where you get some of the most gorgeous views of the valley. Disc golf course offers affordable outdoor friends & family fun for all ages, which was the perfect pandemic pastime.

Yelp
Gorgeous hiking and mountain biking trails! I love that there were multiple hiking trails that are specifically hikers only! If you are hiking, take the hiking only trails. Its worth it. These are particularly gorgeous! I felt like I was completely submersed in nature with no one bothering us. No mountain bikers and no piles of poop. We took Lake Marie Rd (which is hikers, horse, and bikers) which is well paved/graveled and then the Lower Lake Marie Trail, which is hikers only. Lower Lake Marie Trail is very much the best part of the route we took. And then back down Lake Marie Rd. The lake was a little sad...but thankful that the trails were well shaded! It is a nice outdoor space. It also has a "Secret Garden." It is a nice place with things to do other than wine tasting! $5 to park. Decent bathrooms, which are hard to come by nowadays.

Yelp
A great hike with the ladies. Forest Bathing in Napa, literally serene and calm. Loved seeing the herd of deers just roaming around. The Garden was amazing.. Love it.

Yelp
Park is nice rv park is expensive 80 dollars a night is way to much and 40 dollars to empty tanks is WTH P

Yelp
$5 regular parking. Prices may change. Worth it because is a well kept area. Locals are friendly. A lot of RVs and families. Plan your hike dont be like me getting lost lol I did the skyline trail thanks to a local who explained to me all the different trails and how much time it would take me. The botanic garden is beautiful! A lot of nature deers and turkeys roaming around .
google avatar

Isaiah G.

Yelp
I came here to go on a hike. It cost $5 per car. There is a lot of parking. It is a camp ground. There are clean bathrooms. There is no dogs allowed on the trail. This hike is extremely hard. It's all up hill. There is a lot of lose big rocks. It would be extremely hard for little kids to do this hike. I personally did not like the hike.
google avatar

Vickie J.

Yelp
If I rate the park and the location and the hiking my review would be alot higher but my review is the customer service. When we first drove up to the park we were greeted with a old grouchy lady who said it's 6 dollars to park and you need to leave by 5. She never asked our name or if we had a reservation. Which we did. My son was following behind me and she gave him a hard time too. My other son had already arrived the day before and was all set up. Then they ride by 4 times in their cart to harass us about parking in the handicap parking which we are authorized to park there and other things and I feel we were just targeted because of being a black/Mexican family. They went to no one else's camp site. They were just harassing us. In all fairness though this was the staff and not the owners. My son said the owners were very nice when he arrived.

Yelp
What a beautiful park!! This past weekend was my first time visiting and it was so pretty. Wildflowers are everywhere in the park right now, which adds to the beauty of those green rolling hills. The park's 18 hole disc course was about 2.5 miles by the time we finished it and it has some rolling terrain to keep it interesting. Some blind holes that help for a spotter to assist but honestly the park's course is very well maintained and labeled which is a treat as sometimes that is not the case in this sport. Every tee box has benches which is nice for spectators as well as to put your bags down while throwing. This park is more than a beautiful disc course though, it also has archery, event camping, a beginner 9 hole course (that was shit in this weather so -1 star), super clean bathrooms and on the backside were showers, trails to hike/walk/run, bbq pits and tables. $5 to park and they provide a map if desired upon arrival.

Yelp
This is one of the North Bay's gems; not exactly hidden, but tucked away in the hills of Napa. I love this park. They've got miles and miles of mixed use trails that meander through a surprisingly wide variety of landscapes and habitats. One minute it feels like you're in the desert, and the next you're in Jurassic Park. I used to go to Skyline a lot to hike, but lately I have been playing disc golf, so I visit a few times a week. If you're into disc golf by the way, they've got two beautiful courses. The lower course, "Pitch and Putt," is great for beginners, or advanced players looking for a nice easy round. The upper course is a real tough sumbitch, as grandpa would say. It's long, arduous, and unforgiving (Be prepared to put in a lot of steps), but tons of fun. It is really well designed, requiring a variety of shot shapes. There is good signage, nice long concrete teepads, and they recently put in a bunch of new baskets. Back to Skyline in general, I definitely recommend checking out this beautiful outdoor park. If you want to check it out but need more info, there is an information kiosk where you can get trailmaps and learn about what the park has to offer. At the time of this review, parking at Skyline costs $6 for cars, and a bit more for RVs. Get out there and have a little adventure!

Yelp
Love this park & the views it gives. I did the skyline trail to lake Marie and it was great. Definitely not the hardest hike in the world but the first mile or so going up hill can have you breathing heavy. Definitely nice local spot to go if you just want to enjoy the outdoors for a bit.
google avatar

Melissa L.

Yelp
A great park with plenty of hiking/biking trails of varying difficulty. We took the Lake Marie Road up, the Chaparral Trail around Lake Marie, and the Skyline Trail back down at a fairly leisurely pace, which took us about 3 hours. Lake Marie would be an easy-moderate hike, whereas Skyline is definitely a harder (but still moderate) hike, where the path can get fairly rocky and narrow. You get some nice views, though due to recent Kincaid fires the views were somewhat obscured by the smoke at Skyline. Don't forget to bring water!

Yelp
Camped here 1 night and it was very pleasant. It's basically pitching a tent on a lawn, but they did a good job limiting # of campers so it didn't feel too crowded. Bathrooms were very clean as were the showers. You do have to check in before 6:30pm but then can come back later if needed Made a reservation earlier in the week for Friday night. I guess we are a little off season so might be harder to reserve once it gets busier. We saw a decent RV section, as well as a horse camping section This worked out well for us- camped overnight, woke up and hiked (nicely maintained trails, just watch out for bikers), with nice views of Napa and the lake. Then changed and had a great day of wine tasting. Thanks for a great stay!

Yelp
Beautiful park , you can camp, grill, bike, and hike. They do not allow dogs on trail which is a little bit of a bummer but I understand why. You will see a good amount of wild life on the trails. You can do easy or hard trails here. I would say good for all ages
google avatar

Geoff Q.

Yelp
Georgia is a power tripping host. Be warned that she will make life difficult for you. We had a prepaid reservation but the requirements for checking in are not clear and are not delivered in a timely manner. Eric the camp host on the other hand was awesome and took care of us when we arrived. Eric told us one thing, but Georgia had an issue with our tents. Update: Thank you Daren for your understanding and customer support/service. It maybe a good idea to spot check your staff to see how they are performing.

Yelp
What a great place to sit or take a walk. We had a pull in spot in front of berm. Nice wide spot with an awesome view. Spots with full hook ups are not bad. All look level with easy access. Their garden is wonderful. Free dump station on the way out. Will return for sure. Love the views. Clean and well kept. Nice people.

Laurie L.

Yelp
Had two great nights and days! There was some confusion upon arrival about where I could park my Class B campervan. Legally it is not an RV and is allowed in any regular parking space. Campgrounds usually permit me in tent campsites. RV spots are often unsightly parking lots with noisy generators. Apparently county regulations say you can't sleep in your vehicle and must have a tent. I'm older and do not sleep on the ground anymore. The staff woman finally put me in "horse camp", out in the boonies by myself. Loved it! The second morning did a trail hike and checked out the 3 acres native plant garden; the children's area was delightful. One point off for lack of shade trees along the camping area. Otherwise a great place just 15 minutes from historic downtown Napa! And $45 night instead of the $300 room.
google avatar

John G.

Yelp
"Bare bones" RV Park...barren sites spread out over large area (online Park pictures are highly deceptive)...however, if you are a hiker or horse owner this park becomes a "5 Star" park instantly because of its easy access to the wonderful trails available at the Skyline Wilderness Area adjacent to the Park (also a wonderful archery shooting open area!)...forget internet or TV, its virtually nonexistent at this Park, but then again, if you're trying for a "nature outing" then you've found the right place!

Yelp
We found this place by accident. I was looking for an RV Park in Vallejo so we can do our yearly Judo pilgrimage. We normally stay at Tradewinds in Vallejo or Motel 6 if not wanting the trailer. I wonder how we never saw this place before. It is very beautiful. Also so close to Napa, I can't believe how inexpensive it is. There is a lake and butterfly garden. Full hookups for $35, dry camp for $25. I see that there is tent camping as well as day use from 7am to 7 pm. Napa camping, 20 miles from 6 flags in Vallejo. There is a shopping center less than 2 miles, super walmart, Denny's 24 hours, 7-11 1/2 mike and a laundry facility next to 7-11. Also McD's and In/Out burger on the corner where you turn to camp. All this and yet a very tranquil, country setting. My family has been traveling to the Bay Area to do Judo for almost 10 years and now we have a new place to camp. I would highly recommend this Rv/Camp sites for anyone that wants to stay a few days and explore the Wine country.

Yelp
Well kept trail. Very close to Sacramento and two steps from downtown Napa . The views are amazing and the trail offers a great picnic spot near the lake for a beautiful lunch experience.

Yelp
Gorgeous and well-maintained park. - $5 to park. - Multiple trails available. A map can be obtained at the front gate. Also, here: http://www.skylinepark.org/en/park-information/trails-information/26-map-of-the-park-trails - Well-marked trails with clear signs. - Challenging but fun trails. We took the Skyline Trail (outer/upper) over to the start of the Napa-Solano Ridge Trail loop (currently closed due to mud). There was some climbing (I'd rate it as moderate difficulty) but it was fun and the setting was gorgeous (with scenery changes). Over at Napa-Solano, we considered doing the Rim Rock Trail but ran into a biker who told us it's very steep and strenuous so we doubled back to Lake Marie. Had lunch at the lake (beautiful and serene) and took the Chaparral Trail to the Manzanita trail and back to the park entrance. It was probably about six miles total. I recommend this route as we really enjoyed it. - Be aware that there is wildlife here (including mountain lions and wild pigs). We didn't see any though. - Bring ample water as usual. The outer Skyline Trail was in partial sun but as we got deeper into the park, more and more trees appeared. - Make sure you've got hiking shoes with good grip. **THE PARK CLOSES AT 6PM SO PLAN ACCORDINGLY** **Certain trails are closed (Lower Marie Creek & Toyon) due to fire damage while the Napa-Solano Ridge Trail is closed in the winter due to mud. Check the website for updates.**

Yelp
This place is truly all about location location location. It is very crowded in this area because of a lot of people coming out here to go hiking mountain biking disc golf playing in horseback riding. We didn't notice a lot of people driving the RV park which was great.

Yelp
Skyline Park offers the most amazing and versatile hiking trails in the area. Hikes can satisfy the most avid high country backpacker and the family with a toddler who really only wants to pick up rocks and sticks! Early mornings in spring are magical and the buckeye trail offers a treasure trove of sights, sounds and smells that will sweep you away from the stressors of the everyday world. Skyline park is not free, and at $5 per car, a regular visitor might be discouraged by this- BUT- consider investing in an annual family pass and come as frequently as you please! Family passes run January 1 to December 31st and you get up to four cards for only $60! That means that you have the ability to bring four cars to the park at anytime (yes, even on the same day) for free, with the one-time investment into a park that is constantly being targeted for rural development or mining purposes. This park is a part of me. My parents have been bringing me here for over 30 years and now I am bringing my daughter and other friends and their children up to explore the trails, trees, flowers, streams and breathtaking views that I love so much. Please Note *** As of November 20, 2017 *** The fires took a big toll on our park and for the safety of hikers and all visitors the park is still closed for day use. Please don't blame the park or smear the people you think should are responsible for not updating the website or notifying the general public in some way. Look into it more deeply and help us solve the problem. We were all seriously affected by the fires and most of the people that work at the park are volunteers. All of us here in Napa are diligently trying to get everything back together, so consider calling ahead of time- call the park, or the Parks and Recreation Department before heading out. I am posting some pictures of this last year with friends and family who I have made amazing memories with out here at Skyline. It is truly a treasure to love and appreciate.

Yelp
There's plenty of natural beauty to see in Napa, and it's not all just vineyards! At Skyline Wilderness Park, you can enjoy hiking in the hills that have been here long before man ever planted the first grape in this region. GETTING THERE: -------------------------- The entrance to the park is located just 1.5 miles east of Napa Vallejo Highway. Admission is $5 per vehicle, and credit cards are accepted. A reasonable fee to help with maintenance. Plus, you'll be given a map of the park. NATIVE GARDEN: -------------------------- Next to the parking lots is the California Native Garden (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/skyline-wilderness-park-napa?select=mzYxehih5UjAs0HV6QaYwQ#ugcqdOFx7NN8p4HcoKEDXQ), an enclosed area containing plants and trees native to California. A living museum, if you will. Come sit on one of the many benches and enjoy the scenery (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/skyline-wilderness-park-napa?select=mzYxehih5UjAs0HV6QaYwQ#aARfyBNPyPznCI0xbxVtGg). The trees and plants are not labeled. Obviously, everybody who comes here is a botanist who knows the name of every type of green thing. HIKING: -------------------------- Southwest of the native garden, the trail begins at Lake Marie Road, which is more of a multi-use dirt trail than an actual road. You'll immediately pass by Lake Camille, which is a beautiful sight to see (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/skyline-wilderness-park-napa?select=mzYxehih5UjAs0HV6QaYwQ#qABRZFG9sx2zpHz7N2kOzw). But given the name of the trail, why not make Lake Marie your destination? You'll find it two miles away at the end of Lake Marie Road, and the climb is gentle. If you prefer more of a slope, you can take the fork 0.2 miles in and get on either the Buckeye Trail, Lower Skyline Trail, or the Skyline Trail. The Skyline Trail is probably the steepest, but it goes up the face of the hill and offers the best view (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/skyline-wilderness-park-napa?select=mzYxehih5UjAs0HV6QaYwQ#mzYxehih5UjAs0HV6QaYwQ). And on the Skyline Trail a quarter mile from the lake, keep your eyes open for a photo spot that looks out over the sloughs below (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/skyline-wilderness-park-napa?select=mzYxehih5UjAs0HV6QaYwQ#q4qj3ekfOT6GKiYmwGrevw). And finally, Lake Marie (http://www.yelp.com/biz_photos/skyline-wilderness-park-napa?select=mzYxehih5UjAs0HV6QaYwQ#2Cr8SJN7vU9oWb6hNEaR7g)! It's a little small for a lake, but it's about as serene and undisturbed here as can be. A great way to finish a hike!

Yelp
Great park for hiking. Not free, but trails are ample and not too busy on a midweek day. Walk to the right of the parking lot, past the field, to the bridge to start the trail. Paid to see the botanical gardens. Basically an area of native plants, rather than a Butchard Gardens type place. Serene and well labeled. Bring water! Cool to see lizards, birds and a nice view. Nature rocks!

Yelp
Skyline Wilderness Park is an awesome county park in Napa. It is located close to downtown Napa so you do not have to travel far out at all to get here. It is $5 to park and bathrooms are located in the parking lot. There are all sorts of trails to choose. The lady at the ranger booth recommended the Lake Marie Road to get to Lake Marie. This trail is around 2-2.5 miles to get to the lake. The entire trail is at a slight incline with a few spots with downhills. My SO and I ran/hiked this trail on our trip to Napa and really enjoyed it. We actually did not make it to Lake Marie because the rain was starting to come down really hard so we decided to turn around early, but it is on the list to do next time we are in Napa. The trail is actually pretty rocky and sandy, not on dirt, so it wasn't too muddy running in the rain. The trail is pretty shaded as well with a few areas being completely exposed. The park is beautiful and you can hear and see the creek below the trail as you get closer to the lake. I imagine this trail could get quite hot during the summer due to the incline and heat, so make sure you bring lots of water and fuel for your hike. My boyfriend and I were in the park for around 2 hours and wish we could have stayed longer. I defiantly recommend this park to anyone looking for a nice hike while visiting Napa. Loved getting some exercise before a full day of wine tasting and food.

Yelp
What a gorgeous day! It was low seventies and overcast when it's usually 80's/90's. We did 3.5 to 4.0 hours of hiking on a Sunday afternoon. Hardly anybody on the trails. Skyline is a pretty difficult hike up to the lake, but great vistas...all the way to the bay. We meandered through different trails to the lake and took a long hike back down. Barely got out before park closed at 7p. NO simple trails with easy hikes! The trails will also leave you dusty. They have showers (it's also a campground) if you plan ahead and bring a towel.

Yelp
Heard about the park at a conference I am attending. Very good variety of hiking trails. Challenging but not horrible. Very nice views and really not at all crowded for a Saturday afternoon. The park attendant was very nice. I asked for military discount and she let us in for free. Only $5 for a car if you have to pay which is not too bad.

Yelp
I literally cannot say enough amazing things about this park. From its proximity to downtown, the beautifully maintained trails for horses and humans, to the best views one can experience, this park has it all. But the thing that sets this park apart from others is the staff. I ride here several times a week and have for the last five years. I cannot say in all that time that I have had one bad interaction with staff here. The people who work at skyline, from the kiosk folks, to the trail staff to the director are all, without exception, some of the best people on the planet. Each of them cultivates what feels like a VIP experience for each person. Their attention to detail and drive to create a world class park experience goes above and beyond. I often joke that it feels like "my park", but talking to others they have the same experience. The staff are personal and a dream to interact with. We see the trail staff on the trail and they know exactly what to do so the horses do not get spooked. I really cant go on enough about why the staff are the central reason this park is miles better than any other experience. I just want to say thank you to them for providing this community with such wonderful outdoor experiences to be had. You are immensely valued for the work you do.

Yelp
My husband and I camped here for Bottle Rock weekend (part of Camp Carneros) and enjoyed hiking in Skyline Wilderness Park on our first morning. It was a beautiful 2.5 hour hike with amazing views. Even though there's a lake at the top, the mosquitos weren't as bad as you would think. They also have disc golf and archery, and showers too. It's a great spot for a day or a weekend!

Yelp
I came here with my family for a hike the day after Christmas. We enjoyed the mix of easy and challenging trails (that can be avoided) combined with the nice mixture of flora and beautiful views. Skyline Wilderness Park is an 850-acre wilderness area at the southeast corner of Napa. Until 1979, the land was part of the grounds of the Napa Asylum for the Insane (now called Napa State Hospital), which once drew its water from several man-made lakes that still dot the park. When the state decided it no longer needed the land and was poised to sell it off, locals stepped in and struck a deal to run the park on their own, making Skyline Wilderness Park one of the state's only large parks managed entirely by volunteers. Skyline has over 25 miles of trails for hiking, running, biking and equestrian use. The main trail, Lake Marie Road, is a dirt road that extends two miles from the park entrance to Lake Marie. All of the other trails in the park are narrow, sometimes steep and rocky singletrack. Elevations in the park range from about 200' at the entrance to 1,630' at the summit of Sugarloaf Peak, the park's highest point. The peak is accessed via Thatchers Rim Rock Trail, a steep rugged singletrack trail with one section that gains over 900' in only 0.6 miles! However, your effort is rewarded with panoramic views of Mount St. Helena to the north, San Francisco Bay to south, Mount Tamalpais to the west, and Mount Diablo to the east. In addition to miles of trails, Skyline Wilderness Park also offers an archery range, disc golf course, picnic and barbecue areas, an RV park, and tent camping.

Yelp
Nothing wilderness about this place. If you're here hike the first thing you'll encounter on the way to the trails is a large, neglected body of water that is completely eutrophic and covered in red algae. Predictably, the next thing you'll encounter is a lot of mosquitos. I wonder where they are coming from. Disgusting and bizarre. There are way too many trails too. Trails bisecting trails, trails parallel to other trails. Half the measurable area is trailed! Terrible trail design. Lot's of bike-eroded social trails. There is trash everywhere, bottles, masks, etc. No exaggeration. It's an indication of the upkeep, but it's also an indication of the clientele. It's a different set. Tons of speeding mountain bikers. I encountered a guy mid-trail blasting really bad rap (profane, just for your kids) out of his backpack. Wilderness park, right? Place is a joke. Not even sure why I gave it two stars.

Yelp
Worst campground experience EVER. First the good stuff: The amenities are good, the area are nice, its right outside the city, so plenty of opportunities to go for groceries or even dinner if campground food isnt yours. Nice trails right behind the campground that (if you go all the way up the steep paths) provide a pretty view of Napa valley. So, now to the bad experiences: Tent camping is not (as usually) on dedicated camp sites but instead a plain grass field of a decent size. This is not a bad thing, its nice rather as you can choose wherever you want to put your tent. BUT: we had a reservation for two people, and apparantly (NOT AT ALL obvious on the website) you have to pay every for TENT no matter how many people are sleeping in it. Each of us had a tiny one-person tent since we were backpacking and needed light luggage. In other words, if we would have had a huuuuuuuge tent in which both of us would sleep together, we would have had to pay only once. This does not make a lot of sense to me. Not at all really. We had set up our tents already without knowing about this weird "rule" (since it was NOT AT ALL clear on the website), and the lady who was on duty came by on her golf cart and told us to pay the fee for the second tent as well. No reasoning possible whatsoever. Her excuse "these are the parks rules, I cannot do anything about it", was obviously a very coward excuse, and she was not willing to understand our situation (only two tiny tents) and make a compromise (e.g., discount or half-price). SO I ended up paying (what else could I have done). It is $45 per tent btw, so already kind of steep pricing for a campground without parking near the tent sites, no ACTUAL tent sites anyway, and a campground near a city and not in very pretty surroundings. I am very frustated about this, I have been in SO MANY different campgrounds all over the US, and never encountered such a situation and stubbornness on side of the campground staff who are usually so nice. Additionally, the "tent site grass area" itself wasnt very pleasant anyway. SO MUCH trash all over the grass, METAL NAILS (supposedly left over STAKES from previous campers) so deep in the very hard soil (but STICKING OUT!), that we could not take them out (and we TRIED). In addition, even though there were small grills and communal fire-pits, you were not allowed to use them. Not because of California wild-fire risk (which I would totally understand), but because someone burned down the campground a couple years back (which sucks, and I am sorry, but this doesnt mean everyone will burn it down and firepits and grills are rather safe...).... I will not return. And I cannot recommend this place to anyone. Summary: This campground is dirty, dangerous, overpriced and not accommodating AT ALL. Decide for yourself, but I will NOT go back. I gave one star because of the nice-ish trails behind the campground (which you can visit even without staying at the campground anyway).

Yelp
I visited in the off-season on a quiet day. I was staying in the Napa area for business and wanted a place to take a short hike outdoors. I took the loop trail which travels all around the perimeter of the park, and was surprised by the length of time it took (a full morning / over three hours), as well as the diversity of landscapes. I travelled through wildflower fields, rolling hills, views of the vineyards for miles, a waterfall, a disc golf course, a beautiful garden, and more. I was pleasantly surprised and will return!

Yelp
This a great park for a hike. Just outside Napa a $5 entrance fee. Lots of trails and great views. See maps. We look skyline trail. But many take Marie trail. Families, hikers, bikers. We went on a two hour hike but if you brought lunch you could stay out all morning. Go early if it's going to be hot. We found a geocaches while we were in the area which was on our bucket list

Yelp
This place truly is about location. At the last minute, our plans changed, and we needed to find a place to camp. Skyline was close to downtown Napa and able to accommodate us. The woman at the gate was a bit snippy to us, I equated it to frustration with us reacting slowly to directions after a long day of travel, but it seems that based on previous reviews, this is somewhat of the norm. We tent camped for four nights. Bathrooms were so dirty we didn't even attempt to shower. It was similar to an outhouse. While we loved Napa, I would consider looking into other camping areas before choosing to stay here again.

Yelp
UNPROFESSIONAL! We made reservations 6 months in advance and our reservation was canceled so they could give our reservation to someone else. What is the point in making a reservation in advance if it's not going to be honored?

Yelp
Well maintained trails as well as 3 or 4 different terrains. Absolutely beautiful views as far as the eye can see from many different parts of Napa Valley. Trails open from horses to hikers, and bicycles. I've seen bobcats, turkeys, deer and yes beautiful king snakes, there are rattlesnakes but I've only heard one around the picnic tables because that's where the mice are after people eat lunch so yes you are in the middle of nature. At the beginning and end of the park are lakes. There is a lot of history to this beautiful area and many beautiful sights.

Yelp
Love the hikes at this park... I live and work nearby in an amazing community - so this is my go to quick weekend getaway (when home life and work life get stressful!). the paths are mostly uncrowded and offer exquisite scenery. The park does not allow dogs, but does allow horses and mountain bikes on the trails. the Martha Walker (no relation) Garden is planted with native plants. There are separate tent and RV areas. I have never been a fan of RV parks... even though I am quickly approaching retirement age. I wish it were less popular with bikes - but, in my experience bicyclists here are pretty aware of safety of hikers and are courteous to hikes and horseback riders. The people that run the park are really great, responsive and friendly people...
