On the Grid : SLA

"SLA’s constantly evolving menu is comprised of fresh salads with combinations so shockingly flavorful you’ll wonder why on earth you don’t eat salads every day. The interiors of all their stores have a large LED logo with steal framing that characterizes their brand. Cookbooks, ingredients, and gardening kits are also available for purchase if you get inspired to adopt a healthier lifestyle." - The Artificial

Had an excellent breakfast here. All ingredients were fresh and the wraps were well filled. The food took a while to prepare and the coffee was served after the meal. What has not harmed the whole visit, because you could fully concentrate his senses on the food. The staff was also extremely friendly, looked like a person was trained, possibly therefore there was some delay with the coffee. Can recommend this restaurant without exception, especially for vegans, there is a good selection here.

Well, if I had to talk about the quality of the product… nothing to say: all fresh and delicious (especially the feta cheese cream). BUT I had to wait around 20 mins to be served because there were just two guys behind the desk and they were busy with completing online orders. Despite of this, I recommend it to anyone who is interested in vegan places ☺️

I visited here twice during my time in Amsterdam and both were excellent! Lovely flavour packed salad bowls (portions are very filling and generous) that leave you feeling satisfied and nourished, and the sweet treats are fab too!

Google
Simple casual food with no frills. The ingredients are fresh and the preparation is either as a wrap or a bowl. The bowl is a couple of Euros more expensive. To add a little bit of kick ask for their hot daisy which is actually very mild. You may not want to order their homemade lemonade. It is tasteless - like sweet water with no hint of any lemon. Seating is outside or upstairs. This restaurant is a good option for vegans. No fries served here. The side of whipped goat cheese was nice - mild and light.

Great place for non meat salads and soups! Both for vegan & vegetarian! There are few of the same shops around the city and always the same quality and menu. Service is quick if not a long line ;) place is cute, clean & green. I enjoy my meal with chill out music.

They place was cozy, the worker was really nice, she explained everything we asked. The food was really good and tasty, I highly recommend this place if you want to eat something healthy and vegan.

Google
Probably one of the best vegan deals in town. I went for lunch and the kapsalon is one of the best salads I’ve ever had. Generous portions. Service was very friendly at two locations I visited. Definitely worth a visit if you are feeling something healthy!

Yelp
Come by SLA while in Amsterdam. Food was good and came out quickly. Staff was super nice and gave good recommendations.

Yelp
A nice place to eat on the Westerstraat. It's quite large and has seating upstairs. I've never been to a SLA before, but it's certainly a healthy alternative. The portions were very large. I could barely finish my meal. We had the lunch deal and it included a wrap and soup. Very friendly staff there and it was very clean. She even waited on us at the table upstairs! Funny thing is, everyone else who was eating there looked very fit! Maybe a good sign.

Yelp
Great option for super healthy and super filling food. You can customize every bowl with lots of different fun options. Went three different times during our recent trip to Amsterdam.

Yelp
I'm so happy Amsterdam has healthy options to add to their international food scene. After food hopping to so many tourist joints to eat pancakes, stroopwafels, cheese, I really wanted to eat something good yet healthy, and SLA was my option. My sister got the Thai sweet potato salad (cheapest on the menu). I only tried the sweet potato burger which I thought tasted a little weird cold. I got a create your own salad with curry couscous, cashew dressing, corn, edamame, curry cauliflower, sprouts, and tempeh. I really liked my salad! Ingredients tasted fresh. The only thing I would change is reduce the dressing by half.

Yelp
I had a great first experience at SLA. I was in Amsterdam just for a few hours before a flight to Germany and found this place on Yelp. I used Google maps to navigate my way on foot from the Amsterdam main train station to their location, which was pretty easy and took maybe 15-20 min. Along the way I enjoyed observing life along the canals, and even came across a funky outdoor flea market, which I spent about 20 minutes perusing before walking the last block to SLA. The food here is very fresh and very flavorful. There are lots of salad combos to choose from, and you can also make your own, which I opted to do. I loved how colorful the final salad turned out - almost too pretty to eat! I started with a base of quinoa and lentils, added curried cauliflower, sweet potatoes, sprouts, avocado, beet hummus and shredded zucchini. There was a lemony, garlicky dressing I added too, but it almost didn't need it because the combination of crunchy fresh veggies with seasoned cooked veggies, plus the variety of textures, was overall very satisfying. The interior space is also really nice, with lots of light, and plenty of spots to sit upstairs. The only thing I would have liked better was having a tray to carry my drink, salad bowl and utensils all at once; as it was, because I was traveling with some luggage, I ended up making a few trips up and down the stairs to put things on the table. Having water upstairs would also be great, but I wasn't in a hurry, and going up and down stairs wasn't that much of a bother. I would imagine if you are local, you won't have the same issue. I look forward to visiting again next time I am in town.

Yelp
A salad on vacation and delivered to our bnb! A good salad is hard to find and this one didn't disappoint.

Yelp
SLA is my favorite thing about Amsterdam. I visit every time I'm in the city. This location has a secret seating area upstairs. The stairs are quite steep which makes carrying food and drink difficult, but it's worth it. I ordered the mint pea falafel salad and it was DELICIOUS! One of my favorites... and I've tried a lot of the menu!

Yelp
It's not always easy to eat healthy when traveling in Europe, especially when the local food can be heavy. That's why I was delighted to find SLA, a chain of make-your-own salad restaurants in Amsterdam. Came here with my family for lunch and we split 3 salads among 4 people. The ingredients are quite fresh and they have a lovely variety of both raw and cooked veggies, along with nuts, seeds, and proteins. They also serve juices and smoothies, though we didn't try any. Staff was super friendly as well :)

Yelp
I went here for the first time about a month ago. LOCATION: This location is in a less-busier area of the city. 3/5 ATMOSPHERE: The atmosphere is nice. It seems small when you walk in, but that's why I'd recommend their upstairs seating area, which is the best part of it. 3/5 SELECTION: It's mostly all salads/bowls, and they have lots of pre-set options, or you can build your own. I like that clearly label which items are vegan. 4/5 WHAT I GOT: I built a salad myself and got greens, black rice, cucumbers, tomatoes, and courgette (zucchini). It was pretty good. I know that probably sounds basic and boring, but I like simple food and I'm glad I could get it at SLA. The ingredients tasted fresh and not like they'd been sitting out for long. And, they seemed of pretty good quality too. 4/5 SERVICE: The service was good. The employee who assembled our bowls was nice and helpful. 4/5

Yelp
This place had fresh ingredients and gave you a good size portion. It was the best salad bowl with the right combination of dressings.

Yelp
SLA was so refreshing after eating SO MUCH BREAD and sweets all week. The employees are super nice, the décor is modern, and the food is great! I recommend the build your own salad with the balsamic sundried tomato dressing--its amazing. All the ingredients are super fresh and I love that they have unlimited water--not so common around here. Will definitely be back!

Yelp
Food was really good but I ordered a hot meal and it was on the cold side. The servers were so sweet too. Great healthy options for vegans, vegetarians, and those who are gluten free. I would definitely eat here again.

Yelp
After a day on the boat exploring canals of Amsterdam someone from the group was craving a salad, which we decided to satisfy here. Salad bowls were huge and nutritious. I had a moroccan lentil soup -- I loved that! There is no table service, and no English menus. Bread was a bit old and dry to be honest.

Yelp
The best place for hearty and yummy salads/ veggie bowls in Amsterdam. I got the falafel salad and it didn't disappoint. I would come here everyday if I lived in Amsterdam.

Yelp
Outpost from the popular salad restaurant in the Jordaan neighborhood of Amsterdam. I've been a few times to a different location of SLA, but this one was nice and quiet on a Thursday afternoon. The upstairs seating area makes it feel roomier than it is, and the salads are quick, healthy, and filling! A much better lunch option than a regular old sandwich or tosti!

Yelp
Supper cute place with good food! They would have gotten 5 stars but I ordered a large Thai soup and and got handed 1/2 a bowl full. I watched her dish it up and she put the last of the pot in the bowl. I asked her if I got the last of it and she said yes but they were putting more on. So I got half a bowl cuz they ran out and she didn't feel the need to offer me something else or tell me to come back for more when I was done. Not so cool. It was 1.5 inches below the rim. That's defiantly not a large. Other than that I think this place is doing it right.

Yelp
The Dutchies love their sandwiches in the afternoon, but I prefer something healthier. SLA is a great solution for a quick and healthy meal, that tastes good. The juices and teas are worth a mention too, they taste great. Love the interior, and not usually the case in Amsterdam... the personal always seems to be in a good mood. Very good concept, will go more into detail when I visited more often.
google avatar

Olivia S.

Yelp
Expats beware: SLA only takes Dutch debit cards for payment. No visa, debit, or cash. Repeat: They do not take cash or credit. Only Dutch bank cards. But if you have a Dutch debit card, the food is amazing! Highly recommend the Thai chicken salad. Fresh, healthy and filling. So good.

Yelp
Horrible not even one star. McDonald salad is the same. Roasted does not mean roasted and the ingredients taste like paper.. dry couscous. Chicken Was terrible. Not again. Not worth a penny...

Yelp
I give this place a solid 4.5. Salad ingredients are well kept, they have self-service cucumber water and hipster modern ambiance. Also, the raw cheesecake is a-mazing! Never had raw desserts before but this place inspired me to want to make my own! My favorite salad is the bio-mozzarella -- it's really hard to veer from that one. I do wish they would rotate the ingredients more / offer new ones, but maybe we just go too often. They give you a discount if u bring your own container and have an app that gives u points -- pretty nice!

Yelp
SLA is all about healthy and delicious food. They have a salad bar where you can choose a dish from the menu or create a dish of your own. Delicious lemon or cucumber water is served complementary and there's a great selection o teas. My only disappointment was the lack of coffee on the menu, but no big deal. :) And apparently it only is the case on Westerstraat. The portions are huuuuge and they also have soups, desert and organic wines. Everything can be also ordered to go or you can eat your food inside while enjoying beautiful clean and contemporary interior. read more here http://www.nansypop.com/food/sla-delicious-salad-bar-in-amsterdam/

Yelp
Wonderful salad place. Can't say enough good things about it. Water is infused with mint & lemon and the ingredients in the salads are very fresh. You can sit upstairs and enjoy the decor (i.e. micro ecosystems, avocado plants, ivy, etc.). Salads are very big, and they give you more ingredients than you would typically receive at a salad buffet (i.e. 2 scoops of everything). They have fresh goat cheese that I paired with grape tomatoes, and wow! So good. They also sell kombucha and make smoothies/juicies. I recommend the purple smoothie.

Yelp
Amazing Salad/food, I never expected that quality and taste from Dutchies ,) The best salad I've ever eaten, seriously. I think, their secret is in their sos. Prices are OK it is a must have

Yelp
We were craving a good salad on our Euro trip and this place delivered. Holy moly huge portions, fresh veggies and for a decent price! We were all satisfied with our salads and the interior is super cute.

Yelp
I came to SLA and not speaking Dutch I asked them just to make me the best vegetarian salad, they did actually have an English menu but I went with their suggestion of the vegetarian chicken with thai red curry. The actually have a soy based chicken meat that was really tasty. Loved the mixture of cashews, azuki beans, sweet potatoes, and broccoli that made great use of the natural sweetness of certain veggies and legumes to make an awesome salad. For those times you feel like you need a nice nutritious salad to make you feel vibrant and alive SLA Is exactly what your body is craving. Wish I had a place just like this in every city I ever lived in.

Yelp
The long table upstairs seems to be a well-kept secret on the Westerstraat, often offering a seat even when the bars all around it are stuffed full of people. That could be because they don't offer coffee or alcohol though. Either way, the staff here are lovely and accommodating, and the food is always - well - as good as a salad bar can really be, AKA fresh but relatively tasteless. As other SLA restaurants, my salads always feel a bit overpriced. But high-five to them for being a cozy, good low-carb dinner option in bread-obsessed Amsterdam. A big minus for the rather brave mouse I've now been forced to share a room with on a few quiet weekday evenings.

Yelp
I have eaten at a few different Sla restaurants and unfortunately they always fall just a bit below expectations. I love the salad combinations that they have, but often the ingredients just aren't quite right. For example last time I ordered a salad with avocado and pumpkin (among other things) and the avocado was rock solid and inedible and the pumpkin was also undercooked and hard. I keep going back, but always end up a bit disappointed.

Yelp
Amazing Food, amazing Location, amazing Service,...thank you so much. (Clean lavatories too)

Yelp
If you're looking for something healthy, this is the place to go. Fresh, organic ingredients that are just plain delicious. They've got a few salads on the menu but I think the gem here is that you can create your own. I ordered a romaine salad with the balsamic/sundried tomato dressing, and then added quinoa, cucumbers, tomatoes and cauliflower. Topped it off with a hard boiled egg and some sprouts and voila- heaven in a bowl. The dressing was perfect- a little zesty but not overpowering. The amount they put on was also the perfect portion. The cauliflower was amazing! Roasted and not soggy at all. Take your food upstairs and grab yourself utensils and a cup of water. They've got plain, cucumber or mint infused, so take your pick. For dessert I got the raw carrot cupcake to go. Very delicious and full of flavor. Cupcake held together pretty well but will probably be best kept in the fridge in between bites. Icing on top sealed the deal. So glad I came to this relatively inexpensive (my total was 9 euro) cozy place. This is a neighborhood staple and I'll definitely be back.

Yelp
best salads in amsterdam! great offer and fresh ingredientes. the decoration is really nice and it's a fine place to go for lunch.

Yelp
This restaurant is SO pretty! And I love the concept, build-your-own amazing salads - with a choice of unique sandwiches + soups as well. Really nice ingredients to choose from, very friendly staff. The portions seemed huge, almost to a fault (neither of us could finish more than half our salad). But otherwise this is a dreamy little lunch spot.

Yelp
I love the idea of fresh salats and healthy food combined with great interiror and products that are from the topic. You can buy books and stuff for the kitchen and get a salat or some healthy drinks here. The store has two stories. In the bottom area is the bar where you order and wait in the cue. From her eyou get a look into the kitchen. Everythink looks made lovely. The Decoration has cute elements that makes you use your phone for a reminder that you take home. The service is very gentle and quit. Even if there are few people in front of you it makes sense to wait. In the top area are few tables with chairs and you can look down or out of the street. I haven't tried the salats but from what i saw on the other tables ishould get back there for a fresh salat. The fresh ginger tea with lemon was nice by the way.

Marc S.

Yelp
Quick & friendly service. Big bowls of delicious salads. We only had to ask to get our table cleaned before eating, otherwise a 5/5 for a salad bar place

Yelp
Best and salads I've had during my time in Amsterdam. Super fresh and yummy ingredients, not too expensive either!

Kacy L.

Yelp
Super duper lekker. This place will be taking all my money. Just finished a create your own organic salad, the quality of which rivals my favorite Venice, California go to's. High quality, affordable, healthy food. Friendly service. Nice decor. Cucumber water, mint water. Smoothies. Green juice. Although I do love all the bread and cheese in this city, I've been searching for a place like SLA for months, and am so glad to have found it. See you guys tomorrow.
