A nice location to visit and explore all it has to offer, the castle is in great condition, you have excellent parking and the grounds are tidy and well kept. You can enjoy refreshments and enjoy a nice walk around the grounds. It also houses a distillery, cheers

We had an absolutely wonderful experience at Slane Castle! Despite our delay, the staff went above and beyond to accommodate us and gave us the royal treatment. We felt like queens as we enjoyed the afternoon tea in the stunning King George IV Ballroom. The entire experience was elegant and unforgettable, from the Prosecco upon arrival to the delicious selection of savory and sweet treats. The sandwiches, smoked salmon canapés, macarons, and traditional scones with clotted cream were simply divine, all served on beautiful vintage crockery. Thank you to the amazing team for making us feel so special – it was truly a memorable day!

Fabulous location only 30 - 40 minutes from Dublin. Historical castle and family history as well as working distillery. The castle hosts amazing concerts. Barry was a very knowledgeable and friendly tour guide at the distillery. He was very thorough on understanding and explaining. We had a wonderful tasting session and learned abou the distinctive processes and flavors. This is a must addition to your trip!!

Lovely afternoon. Only thing we would recommend is more pots of ‘hot’ tea on each table . Only one pot and then we had to keep asking for more . Also more savoury things and less of the little sweet treats which had been defrosted . Tour guide was excellent .

The Slane Castle ( as well as the Slane Distillery) are a must if you are in the area. Barry was our amazing distillery tour guide. He was full of knowledge and very fun to hang with. Tina was the best taking us through the amazing history of Slane Castle. It's such a wonder to be able to walk through history with someone who explained it so thoroughly. Thank you to the both of you for making our day so amazing. Maybe we'll see you at a concert eventually!!

Overlooking the Boyne River, with rolling hills and lush greenery, the grounds of Slane Castle create a beautiful, natural amphitheater which is perfect for rock concerts. Lord Henry Mountcharles has been organising concerts at his home, Slane Castle, for decades. Over the years I've seen numerous bands here including Guns N Roses (1992), The Verve (1998), The Rolling Stones (2007) and more recently Guns N Roses again in May 2017. There is quite a walk from bus/car parks to and from the site, approximately 45 minutes each way, which is fine at the start of a concert, but tough after a gig, when you've been standing for hours. Plus, as an open air venue, this site is at the mercy of the unpredictable Irish weather. Nevertheless, nowhere else equals Slane for a fantastic live music experience and it makes for a spectacular day out. Even though over 80,000 people can attend such events, Slane is well run with numerous bars, food vans, nearby camp sites, toilets and security. A must for live music fans, but expect to be exhausted at the end of a day here. Plus you're going to have very late night by the time you make it back to your vehicle and escape through the traffic!

Not really sure what to make of Slane Castle - as a landmark it's excellent but as a tourist attraction they have some work to do. We opted to go for the guided tour, at €7 per person it's reasonable and it lasts around 40 minutes. In all honestly the tour was really just a walk round five or six of the rooms within the castle and a scattered history lesson from the guide (who knew her history). Although it was interesting I can imagine for non native English speakers it would have been hard to keep up. The cool thing about the tour is that it teaches you not only about the history of the castle but also it's history as a concert venue! So I suppose there's something for everyone. The castle grounds are immaculate and there's a Courtyard Cafe where you can purchase refreshments. They serve beer and wine too. The castle is privately owned, hence the reason there's been no huge tourist board investment. I personally think they are missing a trick not revamping the tour! Definitely give it a go of you're in the area!

This review is for the restaurant/pub only* Fantastic. I highly recommend stopping if you're passing by. Good food, friendly and prompt service, and the building is gorgeous. The attached pics display some of the gorgeous wallpapers they have - interior designers: take note!

Situated in the town of Slane, in County Meath, this has now become a popular concert venue. It is situated in the Boyne Valley, overlooking the Boyne river and not at all far from the site of the Battle of Boyne. Slane Castle in it's exising form was reconstructed under the instruction of William Burton Coynyngham and his nephew, the first Marquess Coyningham. The Coynynghams were originally a noble Scottish family which first settled in 1611 in County Donegal. There has been a connection between the family and Slane Castle for well over 300 years, ever since the family purchased the property during the Williamite confications in 1701. In the month of August, the castle grounds become host to rock concerts, and have seen the like of Queen, Thin Lizzy, Robbie Williams, Bob Dylan, The Verve REM etc. Part of U2's ulbum 'Unforgettable Fire' was recorded here, as was the video for the song 'Pride (in the name of love)'.

What??? How has no one reviewed Slane? Some of the greatest bands ever have played here. U2 recorded The Greatest Album Ever here - Joshua Tree. Five stars is a given, but my love of Slane Castle goes way back....about 15 years. I was on my first trip to Ireland, in fact my first trip anywhere. We were staying in the shit hole town of Navan and enjoying Heineken night at the Round O. The 15 year old bar back recommended Slane Castle as the happening disco, so off we went. Wow - upon arrival, a tuxedo clad geezer opened the huge castle gates for our rental van. Once inside, we were greeted by the Spice Girls + Johnny Cash, a classic combo. At about 1am, the lights went up and we were offered "half supper" - WTF?? It was noodles & gravy...ok... One of our party was a pilot who tried to hit on a pleather clad cougar and was denied, much to his chagrin. In short, my night at the Slane Castle Disco was one of the greatest nights ever. The end.

As a concert venue, this place rocks! It's so beautiful with the castle, the trees, the river and the natural amphitheatre that the grounds provide. It's an amazing outdoor concert venue. But in terms of how well it's setup for paying customers... erm... All my abiding memories of Slane have been dogged with walking miles from car park / bus park to venue, then back again only to be stuck in traffic for hours. The area is just not setup for big crowds of people. I've avoided gigs I wanted to go to in the past because of this. It's just not worth the hassle. But the Foo Fighters came up and we thought, fup it lets go. But this time we'll camp nearby. Easy peasy. However when we got to the nearest entrance into Slane Castle from our campsite, we were directed to another entrance further away by concert staff. Huh? So much for forward thinking. The bar offered one type of bland beer or wine, both at 6 EUR each. The toilets later in the day were absolute chaos in terms of queuing. We left before the encore to avoid the inevitable herding of the crowds out of the grounds. I'm so glad we did, we could still hear the music from our tent. The next morning we met tail backs into Slane village as we left camp. So did a quick u-turn and head back to Dublin via Navan in no time at all. I guess it's a place to be experienced at least once. But for me it'd want to be one amazing band to make it worth the hassle and the cost.

Located in the Boyne valley (overlooking the River Boyne and a stone's throw away from the site of the famous Battle of the Boyne), Slane Castle one of Ireland's most famous landmarks. Now, this could be because you're a keen historian and like to thrill at the tales of The Conynghams or the Williamite Confiscations... but it is more likely you've been there for a big gig. Since the early '80s, Slane has hosted huge outdoor concerts in its natural amphitheatre that can hold up to as many as 100,000 people. Over the years, some of pop and rock's biggest have played here: Bob Dylan, The Rolling Stones, Madonna, Queen and Neil Young. The Stereophonics have played there as well but you shouldn't hold that against the good people of Slane. The grounds are easy to access (although the walk from the car park is a bit long) and the sound bounces just great around the natural amphitheatre. It's a well-run and fine place to watch a show.

good place for a concert but a nightmare to from after the concert,it is in the middle of the country side,dublin bus,taxi,or a lift is the only way to and from,not many hotels nearby navan or ashbourne otherwise closer to dublin,but besides getting to and from,very good place for a concert,
