Rising from the ashes of old stable buildings, what were once old ruins on the grounds of Slane Castle, these buildings now house a stunning distillery, bringing whiskey making back to the Boyne valley.
Like the whiskey itself, the craftsmanship that went into the restoration of these old buildings into a state-of-the-art distillery leave you amazed. The restoration has been gentle and in tune with the history of these old buildings. I especially love the stables bar, where the old horse stables have been turned into booths where you can enjoy a glass of Slane Irish whiskey after your tour.
The tour guides are all very friendly and knowledgeable, happily answering any questions that folks had on the tour, and they walk you through the history of the buildings, the restoration work that went in to get it up and running, and of course the magic of whiskey making itself. They even add some colour with the stories behind why the clock over the distillery entrance no longer works (hint, it involves a shotgun).
They can even cater to large private events, such as corporate visits, with catering on site (we saw a large group doing just that when we visited).
The tasting at the end is great, and the experience is wonderful from start to finish.
