I had such a fantastic time at Slanted Rice! From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was warm and inviting, with just the right balance of cozy and chic. The food did not disappoint. I started with the potstickers (I ended up ordering a second order after eating the first). The potstickers were perfectly crispy on the outside and packed with flavorful filling. For my main dish, I went with the Prawns with Garlic Noodles, and wow, it was a game-changer. The prawns were cooked to perfection, and the noodles had that rich garlic essence that made every bite indulgent. Overall, an amazing dining experience! Great food, great vibe—I’ll definitely be back.

We’ve been to slanted rice a few times and the first couple times were great but that last two times the food wasn’t good at all. The pork and chicken almost tasted expired. We probably won’t be coming back anytime soon.

This place offers great food and drink options—the soup was especially good. The restrooms are well-maintained. However, the indoor seating is limited, making it challenging for large groups. We were a group of 12, and they had to join four tables to accommodate us, which felt a bit cramped.

Google
The menu has so many great options yet I always pick my two favorites, the grilled pork rice vermicelli salad and the crispy rice in clay pot beef dish. Plus the shrimp and pork spring rolls with peanut sauce are incredible. They do everything right here! Great service, fresh, delicious food and nice atmosphere!

Google
My wife and I saw this restaurant on Triple D about a couple of weeks before we took our trip to Scottsdale, so we decided to try it out. We had a late lunch, so we almost had the place to ourselves. The food was good, portions were just right for lunch. We will definitely come back when in the area!

Google
Okay food but premium prices I feel. We were here to explore and try a new dish but it wasn’t as per the expectations we had. Won’t say you shouldn’t try it but I have tried other Vietnamese places (the one on Cave Creek and 101) and I know the taste. Try it if you like and added a few pictures.

Google
One of my favorite Vietnamese restaurants. The veggie egg rolls are fresh and so good! I also always get the vermicelli rice bowl with charbroiled pork. Very friendly staff and they always seem to be play long my favorite music which is a plus!

Google
Feb 2025: deciding to update my review as the place is going down in terms of quality of food and service The vermicelli bowl is a salad bowl ( barely any vermicelli which is the cheapest thing you can have ) asked for extra vermicelli that came aside as a 1/3 of a cup Very noisy at the bar. People are shouting and no one says anything Pho broth was not good Disappointing Old review: 2018. Loved this place since i discovered it Asian food in Scottsdale was rare at that time Owner is super friendly Pho offered are huge and the broath is delicious The Clay pots are really a must try for anyone willing to discover crispy rice at the bottom of it covered with shitake mushrooms, bok choy and choice of shrimp or chicken or beef Beef salad is really good. The bits of steak are tender and nicely rubbed ina glazed home made sauce

Yelp
Great food! Garlic noodles are like dessert. They definitely have sugar but so yummy. Crispy rice pot is amazing.

Yelp
My favorite go tos are the tropical mango spring roll with miso sauce and the marinated charbroiled chicken plate. The crispy rice clay pot is also quite the treat! And love love love the free soup and salad that accompanies the lunch specials. I literally drive out of my way for this perk! Note the Google page for the restaurant may say they open at 11 but it's actually 11:30 most days.

Yelp
Good spot for lunch or dinner! their pho has a good flavor along with their spring rolls! Cute little shop, I picked up for lunch and they were fast! Definitely recommend just having your meal there other than that a great spot, the gentleman up front was friendly &' gave me extra condiments love that!

Yelp
Number one we took my sister and husband from Santa Barbara here, the service was over the top. The number 5 Crispy Rice Clay Bowel is very hard to describe; it is a flavor all of its own!!! I recommend it highly should this be your first experience here. Make this a MUST GO TO and enjoy the many tastes of your dinning experience.

Yelp
Was out running errands and my daughter and I decided to find a Chinese restaurant on our way home and happened upon this place. We absolutely loved it! From the smooth jazzy music to the simplicity of the food! I don't like a lot of veggies, and other stuff in my chicken and rice, so the grilled chicken and rice dish I had was perfect! The service was excellent and we will definitely return in the near future!

Yelp
We went for dinner after looking for Triple D restaurants in the area. The food was good, but a little bit pricey for what you get. The service was really nice. Cocktails are creative and delish. It's a very nicely decorated restaurant and there's a cute patio for outdoor eating.

Yelp
I enjoyed a dinner here on a whim. I liked all the menu options they had and enlighten they had a happy hour too! Overall, the food was okay and your typical Vietnamese options. What really surprised me was the calamari fried onions, the charbroiled grilled chicken, and the prawns garlic noodle dish! Those were all so so flavorful! Portions were also very good for the price too! Service was good and the ambiance was a bit more upscale than your hole in the wall Vietnamese restaurant.

Yelp
Funny enough - my husband and I were watching Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives one morning in our hotel while visiting Phoenix and it was the episode this restaurant was featured. Lol My husband looked this place up and saw that it wasn't too far away so we decided to head over for lunch that same day. We both ordered the lunch special which comes with soup and salad. I had the Crispy Rice Clay Pot with shrimp and my husband had the same but with tenderloin. Both were delicious and the rice was extra crispy, which we loved. We also ordered the crispy vegetable egg rolls and the crispy pork egg rolls. Both were flavorful and came with good dipping sauces. Overall, great service and very good option for Vietnamese food. Worth checking out if you're in the area.

Yelp
The food was good but the service was extremely slow and the server was rude. The ambiance was not what it was advertised to be and the to sit outside is to constantly smell dog poop from the turf next door.
google avatar

Yelp
I was disappointed at the quality of food here. It's been a few years since I've eaten here and definitely is not the same. Service was great as she did the best she can. It was only one server working the entire restaurant and she was hustling. I ordered the lunch special which comes with soup and salad. I ordered the lemongrass stir fry. Soup was okay, salad was just a few pieces of leaves with some dressing on it (nothing else) my main entree was too sweet. The sauce they put on it was too syrupy and sweet. Was not a good lunch. This is a restaurant that Guy Fieri from Food Network visited some time back as well. Unfortunately, I will not be coming back.

Yelp
In a shopping center right next to a lash bar and rowing class. In case you want to burn off the calories you consume and look great afterward. I walked in at 2pm on a Friday and there were 3 other tables and a few people at the bar. I was immediately greeted by Mason who was taking care of everyone. Including the bar patrons. For a one man show he is super on top of it. Even upon taking my order offered recommendations and things to add to my orders to help compliment the lunch dishes. I started with the Dragon Lady spring rolls. Got a slight kick to it with the jalapeño but he recommended the chili oil to it and it was devine. Kicked up the spice level. Then I ordered the lunch special Filet Mignon Shaken Beef which comes with a soup and salad. The house made dressing is delicious. Ginger based but lighter and more bright than what you get elsewhere. The soup is their base broth of the Pho they make in-house. I thought it was incredibly flavorful against some of the other reviews. The beef plate comes sizzling hot alongside a heaping scoop of white rice, lime, and salt and pepper. Mason suggested squeezing the lime into the salt and pepper and dipping the beef. Good call. But also delicious, the beef in the chili oil! The only thing I can remotely complain about would be every dish/plate was broken on corners. All in all, this server needs to get into sales. He's on top of it and super personable. And I'll for sure be back.

Yelp
I enjoyed my shishito peppers as app from HH and the spring rolls were delish with their own made peanut sauce. I was too full for more and took some home. The service was very good. As for ambiance, 2 tvs playing is not my idea of an eve out .

Yelp
Pho was basic, crunchy noodles, bland broth, 3 slices of beef that were grey in color, old cilantro, basil and jalapeños. Lemongrass chicken had no lemongrass flavor, noodles were way too salty and was over cooked for our liking. If you're in the mood for really good Vietnamese food give Khai Hoan in Tempe a try as you won't be disappointed. Good customer service and friendly staff

Yelp
I was harassed by the girl with the orange hair named Ash. She will harass you while you eat and then after mentioning to your waitress that she's making you uncomfortable, she will proceed to rally the other employees to also join in on the harassment. She came over to my table after all this and tried to argue and fight with me. I asked her to leave me alone and she refused, so I asked for my check and left. I tried to call the next day and ask to speak with the owner and she hung up on me twice. I was also served rotten basil with my pho which had bug bite holes in it in addition to being brown. My spring rolls were served on romaine leaves with pink, rotten ends. I was visiting this restaurant alone and was clearly targeted by her. I was also body/fat shamed by the owner when trying to communicate with him on what happened. To the owner Ty: the fact that you continue to make disparaging comments about my body and mental health continues to attest that you are a bully, and your employee is a bully. Maybe try not being cruel and hateful to your customers in order to avoid reviews that state the truth about what happened. You wouldn't even hear what I had to say about what happened. All you have done is accuse me of being mentally unstable and fat. I have every right to be upset about what happened. I WAS HARRASSED, YOU WERE NOT. I have never even spoken to you. This is what Yelp is for so that other people can know what kind of trauma and drama they endured by going to your restaurant. Peace, indeed.

Yelp
We ended up at Slanted Rice on a cool January day in Scottsdale craving pho to take the chill off. This is a small restaurant but with tasteful decor and indoor, patio or bar seating. We came for the rare beef pho and the vermicelli salad. The kitchen fan broke while we were there so to prevent the dining area from filling with smoke they had to open the doors which made it a bit chilly as we waited for our meal. We each had the rare beef pho served with plenty of basil, lime, jalapenos and bean sprouts. The broth was devine you could taste the warm spices (cloves, allspice, maybe cardamom) in the broth. There was plenty of onion and tender beef in the pho. We were able to package up and take home for another 2 meals. We also shared the Vietnamese Vermicelli salad with pork eggroll as our protein. Love this salad and it all comes together with the sweet and tangy light dressing. The eggrolls were crunchy and filled with ground pork and were delicious. We will be back on our next visit to Scottsdale.

Yelp
Comfortable feeling walking in. Service is always accommodating. Food is tasty. We have more to try. Glad I "found you". Keep up the good work

Yelp
When I entered, there were three females at the bar. They simultaneously asked if I was there for a pick-up order instead of asking, "May I help you?" Especially since I was standing by the 'Please Wait To Be Seated' signage. This is a great place for authentic cuisine! Very quaint! I had a great waitress. The food was fresh, and it was delivered to the table in a timely fashion. Indoor and outdoor seating available. The furniture is worn and dated, but the taste and quality of the food is why you're there. No worries about parking, the lot is huge. Accessible parking and ramps.

Yelp
Been here several times. Food has gone downhill, bland and dried. The server was unfriendly, recommended a appetizer and we ordered it and he didn't put it in and he said we didn't order. No apologies as well as slamming my drink on the table and spill everywhere I didn't cleaned up. Won't go back again.
google avatar

Yelp
Finally an authentic pho flavor! Highly recommend trying if you like pho and want authentic bone broth and seasonings.
google avatar

Nadine Y.

Yelp
The food was very delicious. I got a vermicelli bowl and my pork was charbroiled to perfection. I also ordered a veggie egg roll add-on. I really wish I ordered more than one egg roll because it was perfectly crispy!! I also ordered a combination pho and sweet fish sauce wings for my husband. The wings were soooo good. I've always loved fish sauce flavored wings. The pho however was lacking in flavor -- I'm very critical of pho broth. Other than that, can't complain about the food. We will definitely be back if we're in the area.
google avatar

Yelp
I had a chicken pho and it was good but there was something missing, I think it needed more seasonings. We shared the fresh spring roll with chicken instead of shrimps. The peanut sauce was amazing but the chicken was dry. My husband had the garlic noodles with chicken and the chicken was amazing. It was marinated and grilled and so tasty! Service was okay, we saw only one server but she took care of all the customers, 3 tables outside. Ambience was casual, nice and cozy. Location was convenient as there's not a lot of Vietnamese restaurants in the Scottsdale/Paradise Valley area.
google avatar

Sonia A.

Yelp
OMG! So delicious! And the people who work there are super-nice and helpful. We had the fresh rolls with tofu, the papaya salad, and the red curry with avocado. So many places give you curry with a lot of sauce and rice but not much else, but here the bowl was stuffed with vegetables, tofu, and lots of avocado.
google avatar

Kelsey N.

Yelp
This place has some amazing flavorful dishes! The Garlic Noodles and prawns are worth ordering and I love that they have an appetizer sized pho to order with my meal because I usually can't decide! They also have some of the freshest spring rolls I've tasted. I ordered the BBQ pork Spring Rolls and it came with crisp vegetables and addicting fish and peanut sauce. I did find this place pricey compared to their portions but the food is worth trying! This is one of the better Vietnamese spots in Scottsdale.

Yelp
I was in the area for the weekend and this was the best food and service we got. The server was very personable and was really great in providing us a good time with drinks and food requests. He was able to give us extra shot glasses for sake, packed an order to go last minute, and was able to give us his opinion in what to order. The food itself was pretty good too. I am vegetarian so I loved the tofu in the crispy rice bowl. That meal in itself was one of the best I've had anywhere. The garlic butter edamame was a good version of itself. My bf and I always order garlic edamame and it compares just as well as our favorite back home. The reason for 4 stars is be auze of the salt and pepper tofu. We felt it didn't have enough pizzazz with the salt and pepper. In fact, we were thinking more could've been added )and maybe a Lil MSG? ;-]). The jalapeños and onions with it was good, but just felt it needed more flavor. Overall, I liked this spot. They had a few outdoor tables that accommodated a party of 6 and were able to take reservations over the phone.
google avatar

Yelp
I got Bún Thịt Nướng, grilled pork was okay, but a little bitter because it burned. It had not many bún noodles in my bowl, a lot of lettuce under. Noodles was not microwave hot enough so some of the noodles died up, cold, and hard. Soybean sprouts were not fresh. Vietnamese coffee was excellent. Service 5/5 Food 4/5 Cleanliness 5/5
google avatar

Kristin H.

Yelp
My husband and I are regulars for both eating in and to-go, and we love the garlic noodles, the firecracker shrimp, and the pho dishes! Special shout-out to Evangelina for excellent service! She's extremely courteous and professional. :) And if you're interested in watching the game btw, they have two TVs hanging in the bar area.

Yelp
Pretty nice, upper classy busy Phò place in the richest part of Scottsdale, Arizona. Each dish is upper teens to twenties. The prices do reflect the local economy and affordability instead of quality , but it is decent place to visit for a Filet Mignon Phò or wraps. The restaurant is catering to a local population with no real expectation of true authenticity In Vietnamese cuisine; moreover the regular dishes have morphed into something that is truly unlike any real Vietnamese food! The Phò has broth made out of sweet fish sauce instead of bone and chicken and herbs, very disappointing! The most expensive Filet Mignon Cubes in hotpot with rice was extremely salty and with bokchoy and mushroom. The Dried Vermicelli was full of lettuce and sweet sauce that was not even close to authentic Bùn dish and all of the BBQ pork meat was burnt. The waiter forgot to bring my Jasmine tea but charged me anyway. I should have skipped the tip. Generous two stars.
google avatar

S M.

Yelp
Mediocre and pricey. Pho soup base is tasteless, the only plus was the star anise. That's it. Spring roll is ridiculously priced. $6 for ONE? It's a Quick fix but definitely go in with super low expectations.
google avatar

Michael P.

Yelp
Pho not bad, I would go back for a second time. It's more catered to the adventurous foodie. Nothing too crazy on the menu. Service was good and the ambiance is quite relaxing. No florescence lights IYKYK.
google avatar

Grace C.

Yelp
Based on food network wanted to try this place before we leave Arizona. Soup base was vegetarian instead of meat/pork base. They said that they changed it to vegetarian bc they were wasting a lot of the pork base on soup. We ordered combo pho. It was flavorful but def not the pork base I was looking for but great combo of meat and veggies. Good size. Vietnamese coffee was too sweet for me. Great service.
google avatar

Yelp
We went here for the first time after seeing a recommendation on DINERS DRIVE-INS & DIVES. Service was friendly and great. The soup and salad were refreshing. I love scallops and the sizzling rice was wonderful but it was the most expensive thing on the menu at $29. My wife enjoyed her chicken and I am sure we will return.
google avatar

Cherita A.

Yelp
Food great...awesome! But... Service was awful. First time here so maybe it was just a bad day. Just there isn't a reason to be rude. I asked if they had eel sauce or something similar for the edamame, and she walked off and slammed pepper sauce down and said that's all we have. We had to ask for drink refills and even then it took sometime to get them...With a salty meal...not pleasant That's not all but you get the point We were there April 5th at 1:30-2:30 pm I would go back...I say always try twice
google avatar

Amanda C.

Yelp
Flavors good but small portions for the price you pay, but thats Scottsdale for ya. If you'd like to try authentic Vietnamese food there are much better options in Tempe or Mesa but this wasn't bad. I thought the pork sausage, and shrimp were flavorful, but the fish sauce was missing!
google avatar

Christina J.

Yelp
I stood in the entry about 5 minutes before I was greeted. Mind you, the place is tiny and the staff saw me walk in. All the tables dirty, its 2:45, lunch rush obviously over. I get seated and sit again waiting to be asked if I would like a drink. She finally asks for my drink and took my menu without taking my order. I finally asked for my menu back and she asked if I had ordered...um, you just took my drink order and grabbed my menu ‍. Okay, so I started with just an appetizer..my server rushed me a bit trying to push my order along. I had questions about their spring rolls...and I started to get a little frustrated with her passive aggressive fake attentiveness..she must own the place or something...this place is like a hang out.

Yelp
We stopped by here at around 8:00pm on Saturday, and were craving some Vietnamese cuisine, this showed up in our Yelp search as there are not too many options for decent Asian food. I like that there is plenty of parking, the location is safe, the ambiance and customer service was also great. Plenty of indoor and outdoor seating options. Most establishments in Scottsdale are social media "ready", it has a contemporary feel to it versus a "hole in the wall" Asian restaurant with bad air circulation and flies, so it's definitely clean as compared to most traditional Vietnamese restaurants. Food: We ordered the Lemongrass chicken with jasmine rice, which comes with a side salad and broth. This was the most flavorful dish, which we all agreed to. We also ordered the sizzling filet mignon cubes, with jasmine rice. This was just OK - but for $29 not bad, just wouldn't order it again. The cubes of filet mignon was tender, just missing some boldness to it. Also ordered chicken curry, not bad but not as good as Indian curry. And then we ordered a steak pho. Sadly this was the worse Pho I've had in my entire life. The broth was bland, it tasted like water and pho instant seasoning had a baby. I would actually argue the pho instant noodle stuff is better as you are not paying $15 a bowl. I had to ask the server to return it. I dried drowning it in Sriracha but that didn't even work. It was definitely a huge disappointment, minus one star only as the waiter understood. As an appetizer we had the lemongrass Brussels Sprouts, they were crispy on the outside, while still fork tender and the sauce was delicious to complement and not overpower the vegetable, and came out piping hot. But definitely the stand out winner is the Lemon grass chicken. I would return just for that dish and customer service and convenient location when in that part of Scottsdale.

Yelp
This is our first visit and it is an upscale Vietnamese venue. We were excited to give this restaurant our business. We started with the Shrimp Spring Roll $5 which is just one roll that was loosely wrapped. Trying to eat this, we had ti squeeze the roll together to keep the filling from falling out. My wife ordered Tenderloin Vegetables Pho $20. Instead of thinly sliced meat, it was in chunks and wondering if the meat was really tenderloin? The Garlic Noodles $10 came in a small plate, We really couldn't taste any garlic and the noodles were stiff. We've had better. I ordered the Combo Pho $18, and was wondering where the shrimp and other meats were. Soup base could have been more flavorful. Our Hot Tea $3 was hot water with a tea bag. We really wanted to like this restaurant but paying $$$ for so so food is not worth it to us.
google avatar

Sheila W.

Yelp
Great food. Great service. Great people. Food was excellent as usual. The noodle soup was very tasty. Our favorites are the spring rolls. Will definitely come back.
google avatar

Neluta G.

Yelp
Guy Fiery visited this place in 2017. Not sure why there is nothing out of the ordinary here the pho broth was average at best the shrimp tempura spring roll was good. The sriracha sauce and hoisin bottles were very dirty so I asked the server to clean them she was obviously annoyed and she said that all the bottle are like that because so many people use them. Sad that they don't sanitize the bottles between customers. There is better food around so this place is a no for me.

Rebecca H.

Yelp
I visited The Slanted Rice yesterday because I was craving Chicken Pho. I needed a hearty chicken broth to settle my stomach and my go to is usually an Asian soup - though I'm not myself Asian. The Pho broth was hearty and flavorful. Some Pho broth is weak, watered down and poor. Not this one. Very rich. It was very good and the waitress, Ashley was extremely nice. I will go back again soon.

Pancho H.

Yelp
Holy god, I ordered two orders of chicken pho and both of them had wet undercooked chicken. I understand that maybe it would cook in the broth, which also wasn't great, but it wasn't pleasant to deal with. You're better off going to Saigon Bowl or Hello Vietnam.

Yelp
Love this spot. Took my mom to check it out. Everything was amazing as always! But the star of the show was our server Mason!! He was working completely by himself! Bartending and serving ALL the tables. We were a table of six and it was at least 12-14 other ppl total. He handled it so incredibly and made sure everything and everyone was served well. I was very impressed and pleased with my visit. See you soon!

David W.

Yelp
Amazing ! A dynamite taste in a warm friendly place! Be sure to check it out, to find it out ! Enjoy !
google avatar

Jess K.

Yelp
Unfortunately short staffed so service was very slow. $15 chicken pho was okay. It was warm not hot. Portion was good. Chicken was dry. Outside seating was pleasant for a beautiful spring day.

Yelp
Really great locals hangout, that just so happens to be a Vietnamese restaurant. Friendly staff, great service. My suggestion is have the rice noodle bowl. It's truly the benchmark of a great Vietnamese restaurant. Pho is all fine and well but Bun Thit Nuong. Or Bun is the really amazing here. Order it with the peanuts and extra fish sauce. Its amazing, I will be returning again and again just for this dish. Really great place for all in the know that live locally.

La F.

Yelp
Awesome fresh food and super friendly staff! We ordered almost every appetizer on the menu, top picks were the Banh Mi Wrap and the Crispy Pork Riblets! So much flavor, so good! Must try the Fried Banana Desert! It's amazing! I will definitely be coming back here!

Lynne L.

Yelp
Many of our party of 11 ordered crispy rice in clay pots - with chicken, with tofu and veggies, with shrimp. The kitchen was short on the clay bowls so several people's meals were not delivered for 15-25 minutes after the others. Why didn't the waiter ask if we wanted something else once he knew the problem in the kitchen? Drinks were pretty and well-received. The chicken and tofu were dry. The waiter was flippant, and uncaring. The food was mediocre. At the end of the meal he delivered fortune cookie , dropped from a height of 2 feet. Their service alone would be reason never to return. The food cinched it. Go elsewhere!
google avatar

Lily N.

Yelp
One of the best Vietnamese restaurants in Scottsdale. The Brussels sprouts, the rice with grilled porc, chicken and shrimp and. Veggies pho. All came out so good.

Matt L.

Yelp
Service leaves something to be desired. servers made multiple errors and either blamed the kitchen or their hearing. some guy with a forearm tattoo clacked sets of chopsticks at a guest. Our salad was never rung in and the server blamed the sound level. waste of time and money
google avatar

David H.

Yelp
You can see that I come here a lot and at the time of the review I am the duke here. So I'm a regular. This last experience through, I think I'm done. The food is good. The service is slow and it seems like they have low staff to accommodate. Which is understandable today. I fully understand. So I go in for lunch on a Friday and there are literally and I mean literally 3 customers with one leaving and 2 at one table outside. I went to order the shaken beef which is one of the most expensive dishes on the menu. All I wanted was to sub the rice for veggies because yes sorry I'm trying to eat right and I don't want rice, I want veggies. This is simple right? I have to add that I ordered this just the other day with NO issues. This seems like a more than reasonable request and easy. So the server said, "no we can't do that." I told her twice they did it before and she argued with me saying "we don't substitute anything". Nothing on your lunch menu or any other menu says no substitutes. I looked at every single page. I would have even paid more, I didn't care about the money, but I wasn't even offered that option. I was so frustrated I literally picked up and left out of aggravation. How on earth are you turning customers away when one, no one is even there, two, this is a small simple request, and three you could have made more money by just charging me extra for veggies. Business and service shouldn't be this hard. I literally went across the street to another restaurant ordered the food the way I wanted and the server said "absolutely no problem" and my business went elsewhere. Guys get it together this is ridiculous for such a small request that you tick off a customer so bad, that they leave. I changed it from a 1 to a 2 stars (before posting) because the food is good. Ugh this pains me to write a negative review. Fix this!
