I found an excellent deal to attend an End of the Summer party at the Slate Rooftop. In fact, it sounded like a fun enough event that it enticed me to venture to Brooklyn. Apparently, we were so excited that we wound up being the first people to arrive for the function...! The party ran from 2:00 pm until midnight, with an open bar from 2:00-4:00 pm. The open bar, however, had a limited selection that specifically included a vodka gimlet, a rose wine, or a Bitburger beer. In addition, the deal that I had found included 1 food item from the "Shareables" section of their menu or a burger.
We walked out onto the small section of the rooftop that housed Slate and discovered a variety of long, high-top tables and lounge areas with couches. They also had a large selection of board games that could be enjoyed while relaxing. Before choosing our spot, we ventured to the bar and chatted with the friendly bartender. I opted to try the Vodka Gimlet, though I was worried that I would find its blend of vodka, lime juice, and simple syrup either too sweet or too sour. However, she made the drink just right. In fact, I saw the bulk of the partygoers getting that cocktail, which caused a small backup at the bar. My boyfriend, on the other hand, went with the beer, which turned out to be a pretty hoppy, robust pilsner. When it came to the food, he selected the Double Smashed Burger with fries. He said the burger was just decent, but the thin, crispy fries reminded us of McDonald's; they were delicious! For my food item, I went with the Roasted Garlic Hummus, which I found a bit chunky, but flavorful. It was served with sticks of celery and yellow carrot, marinated olives, and fluffy, warm pita points. The menu had said it should have also included charred peppers, though none had been included. Besides our food and drinks, we enjoyed playing a round of Scrabble.
While not the largest or chicest penthouse spot we had ever visited, The Slate Rooftop was a fun and chill spot that was perfect for an end of summer afternoon.
