Based on reviews I read before visiting it looked like there had been renovations taking place 2 years ago, with the latest mentioning of this 5 month ago. So kind of expecting after all that time to find the castle open and the renovations completed. Apparently the workers here take longer then south european constructors to finish a job cause the castle is still closed after all those years and renovations still ongoing. It's not that big of a castle at all so what's going on here?

I am sure when this Castle re-opens it will be amazing. However, right now it is closed for renovation with a fence around it. Cannot see much. Probably not worth the stop until the renovations are completed.

Castle closed for renovations but still plenty to see and enjoy. The views of the surround area are stunning.

Currently closed for renovations but you can explore the outside freely and at not cost. Still beautiful to look upon

Being in Germany many times, I have always wanted to rediscover the “Grimms’ fairy tales route” with my daughter, now it seems to be a good time as travelling abroad might be difficult. Sababurg castle and Tierpark Sababurg is our first stop. I love the ruined castles, the dilapidated walls and the beautiful gardens, the wildflowers... Everything is so quiet and beautiful, it feels like that the little Dornröschen (Sleeping Beauty) is still sleeping inside. My daughter had very little interests in exploring the castle but she loved the animal park nearby. There are so many friendly animals(sheep, deers, goats, penguins, kangaroo, donkeys, horses, cows...) she even touched a very tame donkey for the first time! There is also a large playground in the park to keep kids excited. In fact I think it is the best animal park I have ever been so far. One tip: Do bring your pram if your kids are under 5, it is so huge that even an adult would struggle to walk around the whole park in one day.

We were not aware about the open season and timing so after all the driving when we reached there it was closed. Below is the timing poster that was on the door. It is in German and may help you when planning a visit. Though the beauty of the drive was worth of its own and we do not regret driving all the way there.

Beautiful castle and lucked right as the legends.. but that was our fault because we didn't check the open hours.

Sleeping Beauty Castle Sababurg is closed for renovation, but visitors can view the exterior and gardens. While interior access is unavailable, the castle's facade and grounds can still be observed from outside.
