10 Best Places for Shopping in Charlotte

"Sleepy Poet Antique Mall is a sprawling 60,000-square-foot space packed with treasures waiting to be unearthed. You could spend an entire day wandering the aisles, daydreaming about how the pieces you see would fit perfectly in your (dream) home. You’ll find unique home decor, furniture, and the vintage toys you loved as a kid. The inventory includes everything from 19th-century photographs to Trolls dolls from the ‘80s, to medical books from the 1880s. If you’re in the market for original artwork, this is the place to go. There's also an upcycled bar made from the front end of an old truck—talk about a conversation piece next time you have friends over. The staggering variety and inventory of hard-to-find items make this a memorable stop." - Lauren Levine

Plan to have all day for your first visit or you'll never finish exploring! Treasure around every corner. Mostly reasonably prices on items, some few scores, some high dollar items.

Google
Such a cute little spot and a perfect weekend activity! There are so many diverse booths to choose from whether you’re looking for vintage clothes, gemstones, antique jewelry, or glassware. There is also a lovely little coffee shop inside if you need a little treat while shopping.

Google
Came to Sleepy Poet Antique Mall on a mission to find some bangles—and not only did I find what I was looking for, I left with way more treasures than I expected! This place is huge and packed with booths offering everything from $1 trinkets to high-end collectibles in the thousands. The range is wild, and every turn feels like a mini adventure. Fair warning: you’ve got to be ready to dig! This isn’t a quick browse situation—it’s more like a full-on treasure hunt. Wear comfy shoes, bring your patience, and prepare to explore. If you love the thrill of the find, you’ll be in heaven.

Google
Great place to find art, decor, furniture, dishes (fiesta ware) and much more! Great vintage clothing, records, prices range from reasonable to retail. Weekends are busy, weekdays shop at your leisure. Worth detour off the highway of driving through Charlotte.

Rachel McKnight

Google
Went to Charlotte for a day trip on my birthday and stopped here. This place is HUGE! It's got such a variety of items to look at. They have a coffee shop inside and I got an iced coffee that was great! The staff are also super kind. We had great experiences with someone opening one of the glass/locked cabinets and the girl who checked us out. Highly recommend!

Google
Great layout, you'll need atleast 2 hours to explore. We did find some fun bargains. Very helpful staff.

Paul Clawson

Google
A wide array of reasonably priced items. You can easily spend 2 to 3 hours exploring everything.

Google
This place is great. Ample parking, tons of booths, friendly staff, and a surprisingly amazing smoothie/coffee bar in the back. Do yourself a favor and try the frozen butterfinger with coffee. The staff helped me sneak a gift purchase while my partner was in store with me. That’s what I call service :)

Yelp
Anything and everything that you can think of is here at SP. This huge antique mall is a treasured gem in Charlotte. I have loved this place since I moved here in 2005. You can bet some really great deals and unique one of a kind finds for a great price. Now some pieces have a hefty price tag but there's usually a reason for that. Plan to spend about an hour or two here to really enjoy everything. I stumbled across some dope vinyls, earrings and this really cool vintage wood school table chair that I plan on using a a plant stand. You are free browsing the store but they do have really nice and helpful people that can assist with large items or questions

Yelp
Wife wanted to go here because they boasted a little coffee shop inside, which was definitely different. We walked and went directly for the coffee. I was surprised to see they also offered fruit smoothies. I got one flavored with mango and pineapple and it was really good! Only thing I wished I had was a coozie or different type of cup, as I was forced to choose between a freezing cold hand, or chugging it until I could hold it by the top and suffer from brain freeze. There were a lot of vendors that had some really cool items to look through and shop, but I frequently found myself putting things right back where I found them. I understand that the vendors all set their own prices for their items, but they all seemed to be smoking from the same pipe. The prices for things that seemed like they would have just been discarded in the side of the road were way too high in my opinion. There were some exceptions with some vendors reasonably pricing things. I walked away empty handed because, even though I found some cool stuff, I could not justify spending the listed price.

Yelp
I was really excited when I found this place on instagram! They do a great job of posting photos of their vendors and enticing you to come in. The main reason I wanted to check this place out is because of the coffee shop inside! Such a brilliant idea and of course the first stop we made once we walked in. The menu was bigger than expected, ranging from coffee to snacks, smoothies, chips or sweets. The staff were great. I ordered an iced chai with a shot of espresso (dirty chai). Usually an espresso shot is 0.50 or $1 up charge but they charged a full $4.25 for some reason. The barista did warn me of this beforehand. I still went for it since it's my favorite drink and honestly, it was delicious! Just smaller than I expected and I had to pace myself so as not to drink it all in 3 sips. Pricey, but really good. As for the rest of our experience, I have mixed feelings. I really enjoyed the variety of booths and items and the place is awesomely big so there's TONS to look at! However, it was so packed we could hardly get to any booths we wanted to look at and navigating the aisles around people's carts was difficult at times. I'm not sure if it's always this way, but it was enough of a hassle that we probably won't be back very soon. The prices definitely differed per booth, but most of them leaned toward the high side. Some things were astonishingly high, especially compared to other places I've been recently. For example, the section of vinyl located in a separate room, had albums priced between 20-40 bucks. Most antique stores will price them between 1-5, only charging more for extra sought after records. I did get lucky and stumble upon a Vintage 1980's Carebear in excellent condition on sale for $8! Best bargain I found in the whole place!

Yelp
This place is certainly not your typical antique store and has some great finds. The fact that they also offer refreshments for sale makes it even more unique and a worthwhile visit. On the other hand, the pricing of most of the items did not compel me to part with my money.
google avatar

Gary L.

Yelp
Cool place, lots to look at, friendly staff, makes for a nice day, great rainy day activity.
google avatar

Ben B.

Yelp
This was our first visit to the Sleepy Poet at their new location. We enjoyed looking at their selection of vinyl, vintage art, cookbooks, and oddities. Found a Phish show print and made a show box with our tickets. We found a vintage concrete mold to hang in our living room.

Yelp
You'll be wide awake as you meander through this huge antique mall! It's stocked with aisles and aisles of vendor booths! As soon as I walked in, through the book room and the vinyl record shop, I found this Sadler teapot that had my name on it! It was priced right and it was a steal! They have carts and baskets available to carry all your treasures! There's a little cafe inside for you to grab a snack, and a beverage and have a rest while you're shopping! I wasn't the least bit sleepy as I perused the rows and rows of vintage China and pottery, glassware, garden ware, toys, games, collectibles, vintage clothing - purses - hats - shoes, dolls, antique furniture, jewelry, lladro figurines, lamps, urns, country decor, and tons more! I checked out easily like a summers breeze, and the cashier was friendly and sweet! Here's a little poem for the Sleepy Poet Antique Mall: I loved shopping at the Sleepy Poet Antique Mall They have amazing antiques for one and for all Your eyes will pop wide open at every cool stall This place is filled with treasures wall to wall With so many things to see, no sleep will befall Antique lovers of Charlotte, it's their true wake-up call!

Yelp
This place is absolutely adorable! ATMOSPHERE is gonna be like your grandma's messy living room + organized garage/attic. It's a lot of fun to poke around and see all the "things" folks have left behind, wonder about the stories behind all of them. The aisles are wide enough my disabled family and I can walk through comfortably, but there are some corners that can make you feel like a bull in a china shop. PRICES are very fair. Most of the knickknacks here are for your bookshelf or china behind a glass display collection, but there's truly such a variety and they're all still within a bidenomics budget. PARKING is in a plain gravel driveway, very roomy and not difficult to navigate. It's fenced in and easy to get in and out of from South Blvd. Most of the outing is for the lazy Sunday hangout experience. We like going after a nice brunch or coffee with friends, and just shoot the breeze as we look through fascinating "old stuff" at the Sleepy Poet. Highly recommend :).

Yelp
Wonderful business, up-front friendly Staff, spacious aisles, background music and items of everything you could possibly imagine!! Recommend: Absolutely. One of the only locations I've seen across the US that has an impressive collection of Telephones dating over a century in age and ALL WORK! Lots of nostalgia here. Additionally an overall, very orderly, designed stalls with well marked numbered walkways. From 60's designed lamps, to lamps made out of a movie projector to a 6' tall 'Coca-Cola' bottle, this place will entertain you for quite a while for browsing. Comfortable atmosphere for sure and we'll lit. Please go take a look!

Yelp
I recommend a visit to this mall. I have visited 2 times in the last few months; there was so much to see, from high end to very affordable. I purchased mostly vintage hand blown glass items as well as some depression glass. There were so many booths with discounts. I promise you will find something
google avatar

Emma B.

Yelp
Incredible service with sweet and helpful employees. There's a wide selection of antiques and knickknacks appealing to both amateur hobbyist and professional antiques. The mall has good parking and a very large space filled with things to look through. It was like Disney for antiques. I purchased a small trinket box and was pleased with the price and quality, great value for your dollar. It can get a bit cramped in certain stalls/areas but nothing too atrocious. They have toys books clothes decor furniture tools, cooking utensils jewelry and even more. Overall something for everyone with a coffee shop to boot.

Yelp
Very cool place !! Will be back - tons of stuff to look at. Huge! We have been to 20 so far this summer this one still hits the top of our list.
google avatar

Zara T.

Yelp
Set up like little rooms, it took some time to wander all the way through. But let me tell you, it was worth it !!! I was on the hunt for some small furniture items and some inspiration for my new apartment. I found a desk, cute basket, and chest. All felt reasonably priced and, depending on which stall, some are negotiable. Staff was friendly, masked up and ready to help you look more closely at items or load them in your car. Sleepy Poet is a project place, not for the faint of heart. I love my finds, and if you're willing to put in the time, I guarantee you'll find some gems.
google avatar

Yelp
The Sleepy Poets Antique mall is a very interesting place. As you enter, most of the antiques are to your immediate left. In addition, there are two stalls in the building where rocks/fossils/minerals are for sale. If you like looking at antiques, especially in the Charlotte area, I recommend this place.

Ashtyn M.

Yelp
Large place with a great vintage vinyl selection. Some stuff I found to be pricey but there is literally something for everyone. Also there's a big parking lot and it was very easy to find.
google avatar

Deja H.

Yelp
I dream about visiting this place again. There is just so much to look at, to shop, to see. I spent so much money here! This place is amazing. They have everything you could think of. Great quality vintage sweaters, jackets, etc. I got some great VHS tapes, including an NSYNC Madison Square Garden concert tape that I've been looking for for a long time. Hopefully will go back soon to find some furniture for my new place.
google avatar

Kandace K.

Yelp
Lots of good treasures to be found. I'll be back! The staff was very nice- they called the owner of the item I wanted, which was thoughtful. I'll be back and suggest to friends

Yelp
Sometimes a lazy day lands in my lap and Sleepy Poet is a perfect excuse to dawdle the hours away. And walk. Shop, too. If you've never been, they are filled with practically nothing you need but lots of things you didn't realize you want until now. Books, clothing, furniture, dishware, paintings, collectibles . . . the list is endless. 99% is used and sold by merchants who rent booths sort of like Black Lion only better. The building is massive. It's always a walk through history for this sexagenarian. "Hey, Mom had this bowl on the table," or, "remember we had one of these before the kids broke it?" are common memories. Looking for an ugly sweater, a novel vase, or a reason to get out of the house? Give Sleepy Poet a whirl.
google avatar

Cindi K.

Yelp
Stopped by this place while visiting from out of town during hot summer and enjoyed walking around this indoor huge place. Pick up a few things as well.
google avatar

Cheryl H.

Yelp
Maybe "Sleepy Poet" wouldn't be so sleepy if he could buy a cup of coffee! It's a fun store although it's ridiculous to advertise you have a coffee shop and then find out it's closed most days of the week. Why not put in a coffee maker with pods so out of town visitors can buy a cup of coffee? This is a large old warehouse nicely laid out, wide aisles. Nice selection of old books, art, vintage clothing, and furniture. It had a mixture of reproductions, new stuff, and some really great vintage items. We would have stayed longer, but my husband was desperate for a cup of coffee.
google avatar

Holly W.

Yelp
AMAZING!!!! I marked this place on my places to visit while in Charlotte for my husband and records. Little did I know that I would be enthralled at everything in sight! So much to see! Look up, look down, look around! You can find a little bit of everything here from vintage toys, to books, to records, to gemstones, to wood, etc... I wish I had more time to scour the aisles and really dig in. and a n even bigger wish, I wish I didn't live so far away! I could have bought some really cool pieces for our house. Why not 5 stars? Well, the one thing I was very interested in, crystal obelisk towers, were very pricey. But on the other hand, my husband thought the record prices were very reasonable.
google avatar

Mandi B.

Yelp
I recently went to the new sleepy poet, location, and have to say I was a bit disappointed. It is nothing like the old location and if you are looking for unique treasures, the other antique malls in the area have a better selection.
google avatar

Karen N.

Yelp
If you like antiques , this is the place to visit. It is indoors, no admission fee and so well organized. There are rows and rows of cubicles filled with antique displays. All of the displays are nicely arranged, so the items can easily be seen. Each item is marked with the price and most with an item description. We found out if a single item is over $25, and if you ask, they will give you a 10% discount. Most items were reasonably priced. Each aisle is marked with an arrow so all customers are moving in the same direction, and social distancing is recommended. If you like browsing vintage items, this is definitely the place to visit.
google avatar

John H.

Yelp
Why have I not been here sooner!!!! A great place to take out-of-town guests that are into antiques. It's also just a great place for killing time and looking at a lot of different things- great ready to be over-stimulated!!! I never made it to the first location further north on South Blvd, but I think this 2nd location is much bigger. The only downside seems to be if you are a Verizon customer, there is no service at all in the building. Other than the slight phone service inconvenience, all the stalls and sellers are organized almost grouped into themes and genres but you never know what you will stumble upon.
google avatar

Chris R.

Yelp
Basic things that should've been thrown away when cleaning out great grandparents homes are being sold for 100's of dollars in a warehouse musky enough to trigger everybody's sinuses. I think I learned today that antique stores are not for me.

Rebecca G.

Yelp
Lot of really cool stuff. Very fun place to go and browse to kill a few hours on the weekend!

Kara C.

Yelp
Large warehouse with a decent amount of antique stuff to rifle trough. Has a coffee and snack stand in the back. Some clothes and jewelry, but mostly home decor. Prices on the moderate to high side. I would come back!
google avatar

Anna D.

Yelp
Nothing like the iconic sleepy poet! Take a few hours to stroll through this wonderland of vintage and antiques and make sure to follow the floor map so you don't get lost
google avatar

Kamron W.

Yelp
This antique mall was incredible. We could have spent hours browsing through all of the collectibles! We were there more specifically for vintage clothing and there were a lot of options! Especially at Kitchy-cool vintage section. Such a fun place with really awesome items!!
google avatar

Jeremy T.

Yelp
Nice antique mall in a large metal building. I came in just before closing and found the selection plentiful and the staff friendly. I was just looking for one thing and didn't happen to find it. They have a mostly dirt parking lot.

Peter M.

Yelp
This is a beautifully laid out mall. It's huge, with neat rows. I love that you can walk up and down each aisle in turn, and be sure that you've seen everything. Not overpriced; great parking; friendly staff; less brand new decor items. Why didn't I give it five stars? I left without buying anything. There wasn't really dramatic, must-buy merchandise. At least not for me. But the experience is very customer-friendly.
google avatar

Crystal O.

Yelp
So huge we didn't see it all! We wandered up and down aisles pointing at things from are childhood or things grandparents had or just cool items. Not really hunting anything in particular just enjoying the vast array of items. I found the Kool-aid man pitcher and cups (red gone, washed away) that we all chartered about. Kelly was obsessed with they old Pyrex & Tupperware. There was a Boy Scout both that enticed our scout years. Furniture, clothing, art, decor- you name it, you saw it! I found a green man for knocker that I adopted & hubby found patches from an event here attended as a kid but had lost his patches sometime along the way. We absolutely skipped entire sections because we had other things on the agenda. I could've walked the whole thing and been very content! Next time.
google avatar

Jacqueline S.

Yelp
Modern Fabrics is located a the beginning of Sleepy Poets Mall. I love stores that make a difference with "green ideas" and great creativity- Modern Fabrics in the Mall surely does this! Saving fabrics from being dumped in the landfill...Recycling new designer fabrics must be celebrated! this space is clean and well-organized, and owner Ewa Powell is informative and delightful! There are rooms for linen, mohair. Cotton, wools, outdoor, ++ most Fabrics are durable and beautiful designer fabrics. There are surprises such as leathers- and samples. There are sales and discounts for buying the entire roll end. You can choose among the hundreds of rolls in a huge array of designer fabrics- each roll is clearly marked with details. Take a look- I really enjoyed our trip here. Easy Parking in front lot.

Deborah N.

Yelp
A unique place to browse a huge assortment of collectibles, antiques, furniture, vintage clothing and other eclectic items. The morning I was here there were more shoppers than I anticipated, but not so many that one would be hindered in their bargain hunting. I like the layout of the store as it had different areas for different vendors. It did take a little time to go up and down the aisles. Some prices seemed a little high to me, but that may be due to the demographic and area. I didn't find the item I was looking to purchase, but the hunt was enjoyable.
google avatar

Rosemary P.

Yelp
This store was very big and lovely. They had a cool section of clothes near the front with lots of cool things. There is also lots of jewelry throughout the store. I ended up getting a cute little dish for just $1.25!
google avatar

Pamela D.

Yelp
So much stuff! Antique mall heaven, we have been visiting a few different antique malls during our road trip, this was a favorite.

Yelp
I have found my new favorite place for bookcase trinkets and home decor. (I'm literally smiling while I type this) Having grown up with a wonderful local flea market back home , I sometimes miss early Saturday mornings spent finding antique gems with my grandma. Finding Sleepy Poet literally gave me a warm feeling from the time I walked in. They literally have EVERYTHING! My brother was able to grab an old school camera for a reasonable price and I found a couple of living room pieces. It's 6000 sq ft of nostalgia and therapeutic shopping. And if you have a love for vintage music or clothes, they have sections dedicated to that as well. Oh, also if you're trying to limit yourself by not getting a cart but find yourself carrying items around (like me, don't judge), the wonderful staff walking around will offer to take those items up to the front for you. They take your items and place them in a large open cubby with your name so that you can continue to shop with free hands. And when you get up to the front and let them know your name...BOOM your items are grabbed from the cubby and your transaction is handled swiftly! Y'all I'm so happy I found this place, I'm already planning on going with a friend next weekend to possibly help me lift some stuff (more arms the better, right?). Needless to say, I'll be back and if you want a preview of what they have to offer, follow them on IG. SYT and SYOY!

Courtney S.

Yelp
This place is huge. I mean one of the biggest we've been to. Loved everything. So much variety and so much to see. Very friendly and helpful staff.

Yelp
We recently went back to Sleepy poet Charlotte, and we noticed a few more things that were in our price range; though the really nice furniture remained out of reach, we did find something truly unique, and operational! A cast off from a time when dinner parties were all the rage, children ate early and adults ate later, a Salton Warming Cart, was found, and in almost tip top shape. Some water damage on the lower shelf, which we did not "fix" as it devalues the "original" status of the piece. Hubby built a wood fixture to slip over the bottom to protect the bottom shelf. Doing our due diligence, I looked this piece up online and came across another for sale for $350 (I won't list where). We paid $45 YAY to Sleepy Poet!! That was an amazing find!! We were also 2 of maybe 12 people in the building, as we had an appointment, and most of the other people owned booths or worked there. See pictures for the cart... It is amazing, but it was passed over when the microwave was invented. One of the clues for this piece, it has ZERO warning labels lol, ahhh a time when people had common sense not to do dumb things, so sorry but it is kind of true.

Yudany M.

Yelp
Was racially profiled, threatened w police and was followed throughout store just because my bag was big lol, I continued to shop and got a bag and left prob won't come back
google avatar

Yelp
Great variety of quality items. Many styles & decades! Nice wide aisles & well organized. Nice people.

Yelp
Wow and I mean wow. The Sleepy Poet is no joke. This monstrous antique mall has pretty much everything you could ever want. They have the normal antique booths where you can find knickknacks to furniture to strange and unusual stuff. There are stalls with clothes and even comic books. They have large items to jewelry items. This place is so huge that you could easily spend a day here searching for something that speaks to you. They also have little cubbies at the check out counter so if you find something you want to buy but don't want to carry it around for 3 hours while you continue to shop you can give it to them to hold for you. The employees are super helpful and took time and care helping me get some nightstands to fit into my car.
google avatar

Sarah I.

Yelp
BEST ANTIQUE STORE EVER. I'm from Ohio and purposely stop on my way if I'm ever traveling through. I wish I could take the entire store hime with me.

Yelp
Sleepy poet is the bomb dot com. If you've never been you must go asap. It's the best place to just walk around, check out cool shit, find vintage treasures, find stuff for your home inside or outside, find gifts for others or yourself (wink), fashion, music, grab a coffee! Etc. Etc. Etc. It's located in a big building, you can easily spend hours in here. In fact I highly recommend you do! And to give yourself plenty of time when you go, like don't go near closing. Big parking lot so easy to park, bring a trailer whatever you need to haul away your finds! *You can totally support locals here, vendors and artist have their stuff in here. *You can totally ask for a better price, sometimes they may lower it and sometimes not but hey never hurts to ask! Right? *During Covid- they are in deed practicing social distancing. You must wear a mask inside! They have Lysol wipes to wipe down a cart if you choose to get one. They have arrows on the floors for directing traffic one way in hopes you don't pass anyone. It's a big space so unlikely but not impossible. They have hand sanitizer at check out. They care about their customers! *Things do go fast here sometimes so if you have your heart set on something, even if you can't take it home that day, I suggest you buy it (they hold it for you for 30 days) and come back later for it! Chances are it won't be there when you come back next time. If it's something priced just right! Sleepy Poet for life!
google avatar

Erin D.

Yelp
I enjoy perusing the Sleepy Poet Antique Mall, but I do typically leave empty handed. Compared to other Charlotte antique stores, I find the Sleepy Poet to be overpriced. Most of the dealer booths are well curated, but some are filled with junk (in my opinion). My favorite part of stopping in here is seeing how each dealer has their booth set up and styled. They do have some stunning large pieces of furniture and artwork, but they have prices to match. If I'm looking for a bargain or need a specific piece I head to the Depot at Gibson Mill, as they have better prices and a larger selection.

Yelp
We went today, April 10 to Sleepy Poet mall from 2:47pm to 4:15 pm. During this time, our car was broken into. My purse was stolen as well as my niece's $250 sunglasses. We went back inside to find that there are no cameras focused on the parking lot. When we asked the lady behind the desk by the front door to announce to the public there may be other cars robbed of items, she stated she would not make any announcement because she didn't want to "scare the customers". She also suggested that I probably left my purse at home. We made a police report but please beware of this establishment. They need to do more to protect their customers at the very least install cameras.

Yelp
Awesome selection of antiques! Friendly staff! It is easy to spend a whole day exploring!

Barbara C.

Yelp
great place for a walk down memory lane, I purchased a 6 drawer dresser in great shape for 200.00, $30to deliver it, I was thrilled as I had look at new for1500.
google avatar

Rachel B.

Yelp
This place is HUGE! Took 1.5 hours to walk through entire place. The prices here are very reasonable on most items, average price was like $15-30. If you're looking for clothes this is not the place unless you are looking for vintage windbreakers for some reason. But there are all kinds of items but mostly decor and niche items. Ex. Bar taps, toys, cigar boxes, glassware, taxidermy and animal heads, and jewelry. I did not end up purchasing anything because I was only there to browse but if I had extra cash I would definitely have purchased lots. If you are looking for larger furniture there definitely is a large selection.
