Slieve League

An incredible natural wonder, 500-600m of sheer cliffs plunging into the sea, it’s a scale you won’t see outside of the high mountain ranges, and it’s right here in the north of Ireland. The Giant’s Causeway gets all the press but I think this is way more impressive. Make it a must visit if you’re ever in this end of the island.

A must visit when in Northern Ireland. The visitor centre is easy to find and drive to. There are various walks you can do and the views are spectacular. Recommended to wear suitable outdoor clothing and walking boots. You can either drive yourself to the visitor centre or take an organised tour. It is well worth a visit.

Great hike up to the top snd back down the Pilgrims path. Safer to do it clockwise- exposed and windy in parts.

It's a beautiful trail, either starting from the visitor center including a free shuttle bus to the viewing platform, there's also a lower car park a bit further from where you can walk to the viewing platform (around 2km). From the viewing platform the trail starts, it's not very technical, mainly rock stairs and lots of wind.

Well....you are not in the Cliffs of Moeher here....lol. Rugged, is one description. Distant is another. Solitude is what you get coupled with sheep, climbing, awe struck views and the great wild atlantic ocean of calm waters, partly cloudy sun rays, and some wind. Very pleasant since it was not raining on the late in the month July day of 2025. Your Irish eyes will be smiling here...and squinting, and maybe watering and being put to an eye exam distance test. Definitely worth going, long drive there, and long walk after you park, if you are able to park.

We let the car down in the parking and we walk all the way up.But we so people opening the gate and pass with the car up, so we actually don't know if you are allowed with the car or not.But the walking is worthy as the views are amazing!

It was a very nice hike, about 4 miles, but you don't even feel how long it is because of the absolutely stunning views all the way up. Me and my family had a great time, and got a little workout too 😁. And even if it doesn't feel like there is much wind, don't try to fly your drone here (it might shoot 1000 ft in the air and not co.e down til the battery is almost dead) but we got my drone back at the end when it was a few feet from the ground, and my father did a heroic Frisbee grab as it was about to shoot back up. And tons of friendly sheep road.ing around makes the experience even more adventurous.

I visited in July 2025 - weather did not get in the way of enjoying this spectacular coast and views. Highly, highly recommend. Visitor center was nice - friendly people and snack bar.

5 Stars - Definitely worth the time and effort! We chose Slieve League Cliffs as one of our destinations because of its relatively short distance to Donegal, the town where our lodging was. Little did we know what breath-taking views awaited us at the end of a long and hilly walk from the visitors center. The cliffs are arguably the tallest in Europe at around 2,000 feet. I felt small looking down from a great height at the waves crashing against the rock face below. The view to the south allowed us to see the bay and opposing coastline. The steady breeze from the Atlantic seemed only appropriate for such a setting. The beauty of the sheer grandeur remains fresh and awe-inspiring. The trek to the cliffs can be challenging in spots since it's only a winding, narrow road. No trail. No shoulder to move away from cars. Rocky fields and grazing sheep provide a bucolic setting. A pay-to-ride shuttle is available at the visitor center and it drives to the overlook. Another option is to drive your car to the parking lot about halfway up, and pay to park. On the clear day we visited, a souvenir truck and an espresso-ice cream truck parked in the cul-de-sac at the end of the road. The double shot of espresso certainly helped me finish the walk back to the visitors center. Apple Pay connected even far away from obvious cell towers! 5 Stars Definitely worth the time and effort.

One of the most beautiful landscapes we saw while in Ireland even though we caught it on a CRAZY windy and rainy day it was still breathtaking! The roads are very narrow, but it is worth it! We saw lots of goats crossing the street too.

We saw both these and the Cliffs of Moher on our trip, and these were undoubtedly the favorite. The view was spectacular, the hiking options amazing, and not touristy at all like the Moher area. The surrounding fishing seaport towns were quaint and pristine. There were herds of sheep we had to drive by to reach the cliffs, and that just always set the mood. We were there on a day with particularly nasty weather and half the group on day 2 of miserable head colds. Considering those factors, we didn't stay too long, but I definitely felt a longing to despite the biting wind and how terrible I felt. In comparison, I was quite bored by the Cliffs of Moher despite better weather and not yet being very sick. If I was returning to Ireland, I would plan to spend a lot more time here.

What an awesome place! I had read really good things about the views here and it definitely lived up to them. To get there, I put in directions to Teelin, where there is supposedly a visitor's center that we couldn't find. From there, we followed the signs to the viewpoint. The road up to the viewpoint are very narrow (typical of Ireland). You'll come to one parking lot with a gate on the other side. This is just a sheep gate that you can open and continue driving up to the top. Once at the top, the views of the cliffs are incredible. This had the best cliff views we saw in Ireland. It was way better (and less crowded/touristy) than the Cliffs of Moher. You can hike to the summit from the parking lot, which we did. The views weren't really much different than they were from the parking lot, but the short climb was not nearly as steep as it looked. You can also get to the top from a different starting point via Pilgrim's Pass, but I read that it was very challenging even for experienced hikers so we decided not to do that. There is a tiny little cart with gifts to buy, but no buildings or bathrooms. This was one of my favorite things we did in Ireland and it is definitely worth stopping at!

We've been here twice, two years apart. Our first visit, we hiked from the lower parking lot to the top-phew! And this time we drove up, as we were on a tighter schedule, but then still hiked from the second parking lot to the very top. The paths can be slick in misty weather so come prepared with sturdy shoes. There was a small gift shop and mini-cafe at the top of the second lot so you can buy a few snacks, or plan ahead and pack a picnic. It's a hearty hike, but definitely manageable if you have good shoes. The view is breathtaking.

A great experience. We walked up from the main parking lot on a sunny day and found the views invigorating. The kids enjoyed trying to get close to the sheep which roamed freely. What I loved most was how few people there were compared to what I saw at cliffs of Moher. I would suggest that if people have limited time and have to pick between here and Cliffs of Moher skip the crowds and head to Slieve League. Also suggest the lobster roll at top of the mountain.

This is the most breathtaking and frightening place that I have been to thus far on this earth. Slieve League are either the highest or second highest sea cliffs in Europe, depending on your source. 601 meters according to Wikipedia. It really doesn't matter because you won't be thinking about that when you get out here. We drove out here on a really indifferent day with low cloud cover and driving out here seemed pretty treacherous. There is a very narrow unpaved path that wanders around the edge of the cliffs. It is meant to accommodate traffic in two directions. In most spots that is okay, but as your near the top, it gets very tight and some people insist on going at high speeds. I think we wouldn't have been so freaked out driving up except that there was fog and you couldn't see over the edge of the path which made it even more frightening. I thought I was about to drive the car over the edge. Anyway, on the way down the fog lifted so you could see that you had a little more room until you plunged to your death. The cliffs themselves are spectacular. The ocean crashes against the bottom, sometimes barely visible because of the fog. You feel like you are in one of the remotest, most beautiful places on earth. It is worth the journey to get here and to see something that comparatively few people get out to. Donegal is amazing.

A spectacular experience. The cliffs are enormous and the photos don't do the view justice. Just a short drive out of Donegal, this site is well worth the trip. Can't recommend enough!
