Happy to come back here on a return trip to St. Pete after missing a reservation the first time and wondering what that spot was that we peeked into. Slim Charmer is small, it's dark, and it's special. Ambience is great - dark all except your table - bright for menus and foods (and pictures). The menu is perfect. Interesting, unique, with great design and focused on starters and small plates with just two entrees -- your cheap, lazy option...and a steak. Because what else would you want for your main if you're after one? We went with a bunch of small plates and loved a few and liked the rest. The toasts - mushroom toast was fantastic. Every bite perfect and savory and umami balanced by the funk of the cambozola, a new cheese for us. The crab toast was OK and chilled but mostly one note. The steak tartare was good but I prefer a little more mustard and a little chunkier cut on the tartare itself. This one was pretty creamy. The super thin toast was perfect for it, however. The chips and speck ham were good, but we were getting full at this point and just didn't need them. You could honestly get these and a cocktail and be good to go. We got the muffuletta for main (didn't eat til the next day, fantastic)...but...the squash. Oh man, the squash. Absolutely perfect. Perfect texture, perfect ingredients, perfect bite x 20. Soft squash with a bite, sheep's milk base, crisped sage, truffle, pomegranate. Along with the mushroom toast, absolute best thing we've eaten at a restaurant in awhile. Tear-inducingly perfect. We got talked into dessert and the tart/torte had a surprise caramel layer.
The DRINKS: Luv Sic is how I feel. More persimmon in everything. More cocktail menus could do with an appreciation of interesting and herbal aperitifs and digestifs.
This place reminded us of some of our favorites - Vern's in Charleston because of the ambience and the tight menu. Ticonderoga Club in Atlanta because of the focused and unique drink menu and pretty casual atmosphere. Our server was awesome, the menu is thoughtfully, graphically, and categorically casual and well-designed. It's on our list, and I'm so glad we came for our first dinner of 2026.
