America's Best Small Towns of 2025

"For a morning pick-me-up or a midday meal, Slow Lane Coffee offers a rotating specialty drink menu (examples include Dubai chocolate frappes and blueberry muffin lattes), a changing lunch menu announced on social media, and 'wonderful' homemade pastries." - Angela Lian Angela Lian Angela Lian was the editorial intern at Travel + Leisure. Google
The best Breve I have ever had! So good I had to stop on my return trip through town. Lots of pasties and biscotte. I looked at the menu and it looked so good. The staff was very friendly and warm. The shop is cute and super inviting. I would be there oftem if I lived in town.

I always like to get my coffee from local coffee shops. As we traveled through Ogallala, Slow Lane Coffee popped up first on GPS. I was immediately greeted as I entered and I placed my order for a toffee nut/vanilla latte, which was swiftly created. I chatted with the two baristas for a short time and left to enjoy my latte on the go. Very good coffee and service. Thank you!

Google

Google
Tried the churro coffee and the everything bagel breakfast sandwich!! The service was really great and friendly, there were several fun books to read, and the atmosphere was delightful!

Google
Great small town coffee shop where the locals hang in "downtown" Ogallala. Friendly staff/owner. Fresh baked goods... Couldn't resist the Walnut cranberry coffee cake and super hot latte done right. Free WiFi of course. If you passing through go!!! Tellem I sent you 😁

Google
Very good! Coffee and breakfast both fabulous. Love the atmosphere!

Google
Had the iced cinnamon latte and it was perfection!! The blueberry muffin is the best I’ve ever had. Homemade taste, sooo good!

Google
Great place to stop. Friendly staff. I had bacon, egg and cheese on a bagel that was delicious. White chocolate mocha latte. Delicious! I would recommend and I would definitely visit this place again.

Yelp
The coffee was delicious as was the strawberry scone. My wife loved her tea and appreciated the fact the waitress asked if she wanted room for creamer in her tea. I don't know why that was a thing but it is. The mother-in-law loved her mocha as well. The three baristas were all nice, polite, and welcoming g. A quaint little place.

Yelp
Excellent coffee, lovely breakfast bagel sandwiches, very friendly people. Clean restroom (check out the cool Doctor Who poster) and pleasant general atmosphere.

Yelp
A great small town local coffee shop with a cozy atmosphere and the friendliest people and staff. We got breakfast sandwiches, a latte, and americano and they were great. The pastries all seem to be homemade. If you're driving through on 80 or 30, it's worth a stop!

Yelp
Might be our first here. Coffee and other drink options and lunch options of bagel and wrap sandwiches. Nice setting and seating in downtown area. Also got a chocolate walnut coffee cake. And all is good

Yelp
I love this place! The coffee has a special verve to it. The folks are very nice, staff and guests alike. My wife would call it a "haunt" because she would be there all the time if we lived nearby.

Yelp
The service was fast as we beat the rush at what appears to be a popular coffeehouse and meeting place. The bagel sandwich and strawberry rhubarb pie ( it was Pi day) were fantastic as was the coffee. And just around the corner from the Harvest Host we were staying at. Definitely recommended!!!

Yelp
Sweetest staff and the baked goods looked delicious! I'm just driving through and needed some breakfast before I hit the road. I ordered a bacon, egg, & cheese bagel (everything bagel with double egg). I don't like to eat too much bread so I substituted the extra egg for the bottom piece of the bagel. It was good! I wanted to get a baked good so bad but I knew I would just be tired in an hour from the sugar rush! Haha They also had all kinds of coffees and flavors!

Ruth D.

Yelp
The maple braid pastry was a amazing and reasonably priced. The coffee was mediocre. I ordered an iced decaf americano with 3 shots and cream... the coffee was very weak and tasted like iced milk with a bit of coffee flavor. The service was friendly, attentive and fun! The decor was simple and inviting. I'm torn about whether or not to return. We mainly stop for coffee when traveling.

Yelp
Oh the service people are so nice and the coffee is so good . We also had the apple cake which was so light and airy and delicious.

Yelp
Ogallala, Ne. Good latte's, especially in a land of no espresso. I really liked how the lady tamped the grind into the filter holder, really put some muscle behind it and pressed. I wish I had taken a video of that to show the owner of The Busy Bean in Manawa, Wi. They think the tamper is only for leveling the grind, not compacting it. Espresso had great crema and flavor. I hope this place stays here for s long time, or at least until I pass through again.

Yelp
Cold brew chai is delicious! The owner and her staff are absolutely the kindest people. Lots of locals and a quiet space! I love going here and having a drink with my son and playing cards. The only place in town with popping pearls!

Yelp
This is my favorite coffee shop in Ogallala. It's locally owned, not a chain and has good coffee and great service.

Yelp
Slow service from a group of young women more interested in themselves than their customers. The drinks were okay but the pastry had no cinnamon and an unpleasant almond frosting. Took forever. UGH.
google avatar

Yelp
Christian radio station playing loud. Not many comfortable places to sit. Not many outlets to plug in to. Bagel sandwich with processed cheese. Large table of older women talking loudly about how much they love Trump. No booths or private spots to get away from people talking. Uncomfortable. But the muffins looked good. And the coffee and service was good.

Elizabeth L.

Yelp
Lovely coffee shop with delicious coffee and breakfast. The service was efficient and polite. When in Ogallala make the stop!

Yelp
Stopped in on the way back to Colorado, mainly based on the positive Yelp reviews. I was not disappointed! Absolutely one of the best lattes I have ever had. Barista was friendly, even though it appeared to be a sleepy Saturday afternoon. 5 stars!

Yelp
I just love this coffee shop. The drip coffee is so good. I totally recommend the bagel sandwich or one of the pastries. The muffins are so delicious!!

Yelp
Quaint little coffee shop in the middle of town. Lots of seating for small and large groups. Best chocolate cake ever! Great freak pastures and the smoothies were really good.

Nan B.

Yelp
Great coffee! Wonderful scones and the most fabulous apple caramel muffin! Very nice coffee shop, clean, and great atmosphere.

Yelp
Very happy with what the new ownership has done with the place. The coffees are good and it's a great place for small groups to meet.

Yelp
We were in dire need of food and coffee on our way back home from vacation. Stopped by this cute and clean coffee shop with amazing baked goods. Really enjoyed the cold brew coffee and walnut cinnamon bread. Also had a great kids zone for my children to play for a bit. Thanks for the great service!

Heather T.

Yelp
Stopped here on road trip Denver. Honestly, we weren't sure what to expect but this place was totally worth it! Staff was very welcoming and the coffee was so tasty! Loved that they sell some local jam and honey. Also, get the muffins! We had chocolate chip butterscotch and banana nut and they were amazing!! We'll definitely stop in on our next road trip

Ginny Y.

Yelp
Fellow pagans, agnostics, and heathens, have no fear! Although we entered with some trepidation after reading Jesse A's review, we were greeted warmly by two polite, fresh-faced teens; one was even wearing a periodic table t-shirt (clearly a black-eye for their science conversion therapy program!). We had delicious lattes, scone, and shortbread, without a whiff of incense or holy water, and left with our wicked ways intact. This is a lovely small town cafe run by very nice people. We give it two horns up!

Grace K.

Yelp
Awesome little coffee shop that will def be worth your time! Quiet welcoming atmosphere with a great variety of coffee drinks along with homemade baked goods...don't walk out without trying the Christmas Muffins (if they have them!) and the Cranberry Walnut Bread is also so yummy. We will be back! :)
