I was practically here every day at the Mall of Asia because there really wasn't anything to do in Paranaque District where I was staying at Islas Hostel with Shin-San and his wife, Mrs. Jovita Shin. I know Paranaque wasn't a safe neighborhood-it doesn't matter whether it's day or night but, I'm fearless walking around this sketchy district, not caring, acting as if I own the entire district: I walk towards the small mall called, SM Sucat on the left side heading towards Baclaran Flea Market which is on the right side-stop there to buy a cold drink at the grocery store upstairs, and walk out of the small mall down the strange street ramp, walk to sketchy Baclaran Flea Market a few miles away just to get something to eat . . . Ugh~Forget going to McDonald's, unless you really need to go to the bathroom (yes, I didn't buy anything at the Filipino version of the Scottish restaurant but, I DID leave a deposit-HAH!) then, an hour after walking, I walk down a very wide, side street heading towards the mall . . . I could see the huge globe off in the distance on the left side heading towards the US Embassy and the VA Clinic Hospital-right side of the roadway a few miles more so, I knew I was walking in the right direction. Cross the precariously, dangerous roadway towards the mall.
Seriously, there aren't really sidewalks per se in order walking to the mall, the VA Clinic Hospital or the US Embassy from Paranaque District: Cars dangerously whiz a few feet away from you as they rudely begin honking their blaring horns echoing as they pass by at such a high speed! When I arrived at the mall, I stopped by Starbucks for a much needed bathroom break walking such a long way from the Islas Hostel.
I take the escalator up and looking straight ahead, it feels like I'm at the Great Mall in Milpitas CA-sort of . . . The air conditioner for the mall is blasting cold after walking through the sweltering heat! Observing the layout of the stores-some stores were familiar brand names while other stores were not recognizable names to me at all. There were so many restaurants and snack shops spreading throughout and outside the mall, and not failing to mention, a skating rink!
More odd, a bit more strange-truly unorthodox, there is a Catholic Church . . . Uh-which I must admit is right next door to the Mall of Asia! Why do I know this? Because I attended the church service with my relatives, proceeded walking out the church after the service ended, bought myself something to eat and drink at the mall about 1/4 block away from the church~Weird, huh? Rather, heinous!
Anyway, while bumbling at this mall, I bought a PACSAFE hip bag and an Eagle backpack luggage at a pseudo-Macy's/Nordstrom Department Store: The prices were written in Pesos-thankfully, I had my Oanda currency exchange cheat sheet so, I knew how much I was paying for the items I was purchasing. Surely, I knew I wasn't in NorCal shopping much less shopping in Kansas: Bumbling around the Mall of Asia, you can feel a strange sense, a heightened vibration emitting from the shoppers strangely bearing down looking at what I was wearing . . . I was wearing a DKNY brown, silk dress, Keen walking shoes, toting a PACSAFE backpack, and wearing 18K necklace, matching earrings, and my birthstone ring!
I ran into my cousin who was shopping at the mall asking me how I arrived at the mall-when I told her I walked to the mall from Islas Hostel, she totally freaked out: She said to me, "Ay nako, Shirley! You must have a guardian angel because you could have been stabbed to death and killed!" Like I said, I'm fearless walking anywhere and when you emit that kind of vibration, nobody will mess with you! Oh~BTW, my cousin was so adamant, nagging me, and insisting she have her driver, Freddy drive me back to Islas Hostel with my Eagle luggage and my PACSAFE hip bag in tow.
