Fashion Illustrator Jenny Walton On Her Favorite Stockholm Spots

"And we also went to this restaurant called Riche, where I had this amazing oven baked celeriac, and it was so good that we went back the second night to order it again. Scott had one too, and he’s not even a vegetarian."

Tried a couple of cocktails which were well done. Oysters were fresh and the sauce was on point. The chicken was super tender and delicious. I thought the meatballs were a bit too chewy and tough; could’ve been better. The atmosphere is cool and the service was pretty good.

Google
Stopped by here for a quick lunch. The beef tartar was delicious, the fish was also good so was the sauce that came with it. I opted for the cookie dessert which turned out to be good too. I recommend you add the strawberry sauce to it. If you want some Swedish dishes when in central Stockholm worth stopping by here, I found the food good but not kind blowing...service also depended on which waiter you were dealing with hence my rating.

Make sure you order Swedish Meatballs and Toast Skagen; they are really delicious. Riche has a vibrant atmosphere, great for eating solo or going on dates.

Google
We popped into Riche spontaneously, without any preconceptions. Luckily for us this is a quality restaurant and like so many Swedish things it’s classy but not overdone or pretentious. Pleasant ambience, helpful smiley staff and lovely meatballs (I love a meatball, what’s not to like?). A winner.

Google
Restaurant is modern-posh style, not with a really cozy feeling. We ordered famous meat balls, tasted good but portion could be bigger. To get full we also tried desserts. Ordered roasted rhubarb tart with ice cream, so this one is really overpriced for what you get. It was literally 2 bites for 145 SEK. Overall everything looks great and tasted good but pay 430 SEK for dinner and remain hungry is way too much. Mostly you pay for design and location.

Google
We had a great lunch at Riche today. The staff who took our order is so kind and he warned us about pork meat because we’re muslims. Thanks for being so respectful and sensitive. He helped us decide and everything we ate was greate. We ordered oysters, tuna fish and baked artic char. Loved them all. You should definitely try oysters. The waiter was also so kind and friendly. We tried gino dessert and also loved it.

Google
Amazing place to eat if you are visiting Stockholm. The Swedish Meatballs were delicious. The Turbot tasted amazing. The bread they bring out is fresh. The risotto was top tier. Lots of seating. Clean WC. Great experience and near public transportation.

Google
Our group of 6 Americans, including one teenager with a nut allergy, had an excellent time. The meatballs were divine- easily the best we enjoyed throughout our entire time in Sweden. Loved the service, which made sure our glasses were always full and loved the atmosphere, which was busy and bustling on a Friday night. Highly recommend and we will certainly be back on our next trip to Sweden!

Yelp
Overall, really positive experience! LOVED almost everything we ordered (especially the Swedish meatballs and beef cheek croquette)! If you want great meatballs in Sweden, GO HERE! The half chicken left something to be desired (no sides or nothing). Our waiter was very friendly and the place becomes more rowdy around 11pm at the bar (not a negative just plan accordingly).

Yelp
Dropped by here on our last day in Stockholm without reservation on a Sunday night at around 6:30pm. We chose this place since it was 1min walk from our hotel and were actually recommended to this place by our taxi driver. We (party of 2) were seated at the bar without any wait. Ambience/interior was amazing for our last night. We ordered the toast skagen (full size) + meatballs, both were delicious (though for lactose intolerant ppl beware, as my friend and I both felt extremeeely bloated throughout the entire night afterwards), probably one of our best meals in Stockholm. Prices were slightly on the higher side (esp for the toast skagen, which has 4 halves of toasts), but overall great for a lighter meal + vibes.
google avatar

Athena B.

Yelp
The toast skagen is a must here! Great spot for brunch, in a bright space in a central location. Highly recommend!

Yelp
A very bad restaurant with discriminatory behavior and poor service attitude. If he doesn't like his job, no one is forcing him to do it, but we only had one chance for dinner in Stockholm, and he ruined our good mood.

Yelp
Cougar town!! Love it!! Pricey, but you get the best of the best in town!! Make sure to pay a visit when in Stockholm.
google avatar

Yelp
Skip it. Over priced and snotty hosts. I am obviously not a local but asking for a table for 2 way before 7 and being told no because "everyone is coming at 7" ... and then seeing 9 open tables after you finished your oysters and lobster - whelp, just reinforces your country's prejudice. Bravo.

Yelp
It definitely felt like a popular trendy restaurant that you should make reservations ahead of time to get a table. The people were fashionably dressed ( but that might just be a Stockholm thing) I had on jeans and a sweater. The staff was down to earth and friendly so their personalities were warm and accommodating. The presentation of the food looked great and actual taste was good. I had the duck which was ok....I can't really articulate the texture of meat but the sauce it came with had the rich flavor that made the meal good. I really liked the salsify gratin and their soup. The lamb was flavored well but took some effort to separate the meat from the bone. It is definitely a place to check out and I was told that the restaurant turns into a night club / bar atmosphere later.

Yelp
This was a major disappointment. Walked in and the waiter was pushy. I waited for quite sometime before I was attended to. And once again, I do believe this was because I was by myself. Regardless, I'm a paying customer. When I received my wine, I noticed there was a fly in it!!! Totally absurd! The meatballs were good. I was too focused on the lack of service and what was in my drink to enjoy my herring plate or the Swedish meatballs.

Yelp
An amazing meal from start to finish! Reservations are highly recommended as this place was packed from start to finish. We ate on a Saturday in June with nice weather. Started with a bottle of white wine. The wine list is extensive and impressive. We didn't order any cocktails, but our table was near the bar and drinks from the bartender looked great. We went in knowing what we wanted as we had studied the menu. Started with the ruccola salad with parmesan, olive oil and pine nuts. It was fresh and flavorful yet simplistic. I really enjoyed this salad. Next was the star of the show: the Swedish dry aged club steak (~25oz) with parmesan gratinated asparagus, cafe de paris butter and french fries. This is for two people and takes 35 mins to prepare. It is worth every minute of waiting time. I am writing this review two weeks after the meal and am still dreaming of this steak. We ended with the brownie with hazelnuts, salt caramel ice cream and raspberries. The brownie was decadent and a perfect mix for the ice cream. The service was impeccable. Our server was professional, fun and patient. He kept tabs on us without hovering. I am already scheming how to get back to Stockholm to go to Riche!

Yelp
Tasty meatballs, köttbullar if you're Swedish, in an upscale setting with a side of scene (Real Housewives of Stockholm, anyone?). Riche is located in posh Östermalm and has many faces, depending on what you come here for. Personally, I'm all about the meatballs at lunch but their bar is clearly a winner at night. A reservation is a good idea if you're planning on dining at Riche. And though the prices may be high, take heart if you're an American visitor as the US Dollar hasn't been this strong against the Swedish Krona in a long time!

Yelp
Despite not having a reservation, we were seated within 40 mins on a Thursday evening. The food here is top quality. Service was slow but that was kind of expected. We ordered the sliced meat to start and french onion soup. Both were good dishes. However, the main courses were special. The scallops with chorizo was great. The salty flavor of the sausage mixed with a cream sauce and chopped tomatoes made it light but packed with flavor. It's interesting to see more chefs incorporating meats with seafood. The fried tenderloin with horseradish sauce was also very delicious. The meat was a bit bloody for my liking but it was a very nice dish and a big portion so we all shared. I thought the prices were actually quite good for Stockholm. I would definitely suggest to anyone in the area. Berns is right across the park for a drink afterwards!

Yelp
This was the first restaurant we tried in Stockholm. We had a great experience from beginning to end. The host was warm and friendly and we were seated immediately. The service was fast and friendly. The food was fantastic. My friend suggested the meatballs and I'm really glad we got it here coz it's the best we had anywhere. Made me curious about other items in the menu as well as the sister restaurants. I would totally recommend this place to anyone who wants excellent food and service in Stockholm.

Yelp
There's three type of people that go to Riche -- ladies who lunch (and shop across the street), tourists (read: me), and the six figure+ working set who join the bar after 5pm. It can get loud in here so if that bothers you, there are a million other restaurants in either direction. If you're fine, order Toast Skagen with fresh Kalix vendace roe. It's bright and fresh here. I particularly enjoyed fresh shrimps. They were salt d perfectly and presented beautifully. Ladies lunching to my left and right all ordered either the turbot or the perch. A chic man to my left had a plate of vegetables and a seemingly vat of wine. Whatever floats your boat here. Oh - also great if you're dining alone. The view is nice and it's in the heart of the shopping scene.

Yelp
Lovely brasserie filled with beautiful decor, people, and dishes! The bar area was full of super chic locals having afternoon champagne and cocktails. The food was delicious and the beer and wine selection were both excellent. This place is a trendy spot in the heart of Stockholm!

Yelp
My favorite meal I had in Stockholm. We started with some fresh oysters and a heavy pour of red wine before moving into the rest. I am gluten free and the waiter was able to point out what would be acceptable for me. When there was a mistake in my order and it came out glutened, they caught it before giving it to me and quickly switched it out. I got the halibut and the sauce was divine. Recommend!

Yelp
Riche is located on the nicest shopping street in Stockholm, and the clientele definitely matches the location. Even though I was traveling for business, I still felt somewhat out of place when we stopped in for a weekday lunch. We started with the pate with pistachio nuts and pickles and were able to get gluten free bread to go along with it. Having eaten my fair share of pate in my day, this was a pretty solid plate. I can't even remember what my boyfriend had because I was so overwhelmed (in a good way) by my baked cauliflower entree. I'm not a vegetarian by any means, but the option was so intriguing, I had to get it. It was both beautiful to look at and to eat. The flavor was over the top. Riche is the kind of place that I would go to after work for a drink, for a super hot date, or any other time when I was feeling fancy. Would be a great place for a special meal on your next trip to Stockholm.

Yelp
Not good, my partner received a hair in his eggs benedict it was disgusting to see and the waiter was rude about it too. Promoting racism on their walls as well was super unsettling and sad to see.
google avatar

Jennifer Y.

Yelp
Exceeding my expectations - an elegant, modern bistro serving classic dishes! For appetizer, the red prawns from Patagonia: beautifully cooked in garlic & herbs! Next, Swedish meatballs: buttery rich, nicely paired with the creamy smooth pureed potatoes; delightfully accompanied with lingonberries & pickled cucumbers! Last but not least: Gino dessert: light & airy warm fruits and white chocolate au gratin-oh so delicious! On top of the food, the service was impeccable! Skal!

Yelp
Our hotel desk told us to check this place out. We didn't realize that this is one of the BEST restaurants in Stockholm!!! Original dishes that have influenced Sweden's food culture, fine dining at an affordable price, and nearly 100 years old. We were blown away and totally surprised. We loved everything we ate here and would 100% recommend it!!
google avatar

Yelp
This iconic Resturant days are far gone, the food is not bad it is really bad. The server we had was so arrogant and she didn't care at all. It is also someone at the front door and he is only interested in the locals, which means that if you are not a local you will be dismissed. I will definitely not go back.
google avatar

Carol K.

Yelp
I love this place! The food is terrific, the service is stellar and the ambiance is spot on. We went early and even though we had a reservation they told us we had to leave by 8:30 as someone needed our table. Well given what time we got there- even if we got typical European easy going service there was no way that I would still be there then so we got a great table in the front next to the windows. This place is so interesting as the front seating areas actually sits between the front of the building and the sidewalk so the wall next to you might actually be the facade of the building. They have a great specialty cocktail list that included many things like a perfectly poured martini to a peach pit (not sure what was in that but it sure tasted good)!,they also have a good wine list with many selections by the glass. For dinner we started with oysters (very fresh) as well as their take on Swedish meatballs. Those meatballs were SO good! Served with mashed potatoes, pickles, lingonberries and gravy- these were some pretty great meatballs! For our entrees I had the fish stew and my friend had some kind of fish that looked like salmon but wasn't . And if that wasn't enough food- for dessert we had something called Gino. Not sure if that is a regional specialty but this thing was out of this world!! Kiwi, bananas, and strawberries are covered with white chocolate, broiled until the chocolate melts and then served with Ice cream! Could there be anything better???? Great service and great food make the place. And Riche delivers on both flawlessly. Now. If I can only figure out how to go back before I leave Stockholm. . . . .

Yelp
While staying at Nobis Hotel, our concierge recommended we try Riche. So glad he did! We proceeded to eat here three separate times. All lovely and delicious. Customer service is better than most American places in the U.S. food was consistently delicious. Martin, our server the first time, recognized and welcome us four days later on our third visit. Caviar and Snails are incredible. The steak bits and meatballs are both amazing dishes as is the tartar. Definitely pricey but worth it. Our servers knew their wine pairing as well two thumbs up.

Yelp
Casual atmosphere. Tasty but vinegar is a little strong. I will come again if I have a chance to visit Stockholm.
google avatar

Yelp
Always a fun time at Riche. Great crowd, great food and my all time favorite dessert, the GINO!
google avatar

Anders S.

Yelp
I ate lunch at this place and really liked the atmosphere. However the food and service was disappointing. The oysters weren't cut off so we had to cut them our selves before being able to eat them. The hamburgers were really dry. The staff didn't know what sauces that was on the plate to accompany the burger. Great atmosphere and great for having drinks but don't eat there. For this price level I expect a lot more.

Jhilmil P.

Yelp
So their decorations are concerning. I think this entire situation is disappointing. In the current political climate when a lot of the pandemic was spread by Europe but blamed the Chinese demonstrates the problem with this restaurant.

Timo T.

Yelp
Great any time of day. Breakfast, Lunch/Brunch, or Dinner. Beware: Like many places in Stockholm, the breakfast menu has limited availability - it is only available before noon and only on weekdays.
google avatar

Emre R.

Yelp
I tried oysters and Gino as dessert. The oysters were particularly great. Gino is a good dessert too, but order 1/2 if you are alone. Although at the expensive side, Riche is a good place to try. The service was good, no long waiting times, friendly staff and clean service.
google avatar

Brittany M.

Yelp
I visited Stockholm for a short stay and sooo glad we stumbled upon this place. The food was amazing and the service was just as great! Luckily, I visited Riche with 7 other people so needless to say I was able to sample a lot of dishes (Yes, I'm that friend lol). Everything I tasted was well season and my American pallet was extremely happy :). The waiter informed us that they had some of the best Swedish meatballs and o' boy he wasn't lying!
google avatar

M A.

Yelp
A place to see and be seen! Riche is an excellent choice for lunch whilst shopping or pre-dinner drinks with friends. For lunch try to get a table by the windows, for drinks, nothing beats the bar. Starters: Always say yes to the cheese plate, it's a great selection but you'll need to ask for extra toast. The duck terrine is good and came with all the needed accoutrements. Entrees: If you're going to try Swedish meatballs, this is an excellent place for it - the portion isn't overbearing and the side of whipped potatoes is excellent. Moules Frites are also very good according to companion. To drink: I tend to stick to wine here, the cocktails are good but the wine list is extensive and the staff are knowledgeable. NOTE: Understand that dinner without a reservation will be difficult and you may not be able to wait at the bar due to it being entry at security's discretion. I think he starts around 8pm.

Yelp
Got breakfast, twas yummy. Good food and good service. The waitress forgot to give me no tomatoes but other than that it was a good experience.

Yelp
Nice place, great selection of wines and beers it also very lively on a weekday evening. The service on the other hand is ok- the bar tenders let's just say are not quote friendly.

Yelp
It was our first night in Stockholm and this bar was suggested as a must visit Great Advice. We arrived and the effect was similar to a Lynx advert combined with jurrasic park scene women just seem to know when you're British. Good Times ;-) The bar is very cool, the beer is cold and the cocktails are pretty good too. It's a trendy bar so dress smart as the door policy is strict. To ensure access, call in advance and book a table. MUST VISIT LOCATION
google avatar

Marine B.

Yelp
Nice place to try Swedish food. The place to be to have a drink. I tried the meatball: nice surprise. Wine was good too. For a French: very expensive but then again, Stockholm prices can be shocking for a foreigner. Mostly the wine ;)
google avatar

Jasmine A.

Yelp
GREAT restaurant! DO NOT FORGET to order the gino!!! Best dessert in the world and here it's priceless. They keep the menue rolling so it's always fun to go there and se if there's something new. I do not think the price is too much - you get real and good food on your plate so what else can you ask for :) You should book a table well in advance, it's a very popular restaurant!!
google avatar

Reshma S.

Yelp
Had a fabulous dinner here. Did not have a reservation but was immediately given a table. Service was prompt and friendly. I did think the tables were too close together for those of only 2 in a party. Good vibe and as I'm from South Africa, everything is pricey in Sweden. As it was a great meal I was happy to pay the price. Not a great selection of beer, but a vary wide variety of wines from all over the world. Patrons are smartly dressed, but even though we were casual, we did not feel out of place.
google avatar

Paula H.

Yelp
I loved this place! Chandeliers ablaze above the busy bar, beautiful people chatting, laughing and canoodling. A lively atmosphere which spills out onto the sidewalk with its bistro tables. I ordered an entree which was a cold salad of cubed beets, red onions, and lox. garnished with golden cavier. It came with a side of hot mashed potatoes. I could eat that again and again. I'm only here in Stockholm a week but I'll definitely return and order the same dish.

Hartwig S.

Yelp
As the name says "Riche" ... that's how you feel when you walk in, exquisite, local fare, global atmosphere, interesting people, .... open late ... don't miss it when in Stockholm
google avatar

Melissa L.

Yelp
During my four day weekend in Stockholm I visited Bar Riche twice. The first time I sampled the wine selection. The second time I had Swedish meatballs which was amazing. The dish came with pickled cucumbers and lingonberries, and mashed potatoes. The gravy is unlike I've ever had before, in a good way. You can't go to Sweden without trying Swedish meatballs, and I'm glad I had them at Riche. If seating is full in the restaurant, try sitting at the bar. Service is just as good,
google avatar

Ciara J.

Yelp
I am so glad I ate here on my visit to Stockholm! Very good atmosphere. I ordered the Meatballs and they were fantastic-best I've had. I loved the lingonberries and mashed potatoes too! I also loved the bread they served before the meal. If you are in Stockholm--try this place!

Yelp
I was in town with my cousin who was visiting from LA. Being a Gothenburg native, I'm instinctivly sceptical to anything related to the Stureplan area, but this place suited my cousin well, so we gave it a shot. This place was crowded at a tuesday night, and we were told by the very service minded usher that a table would be ready for us in 15-20 min. After a drink by the bar our usher gave us our table, and we were on our way. Our waiters were friendly and helpful, and the food was great! I don't remember exactly what the dish was called, but the meat was tender, and the potatoes were delicious. The place is a little pricey, but that was expected. Even though Riche isn't exactly 'my' crowd, I thoroughly enjoyed the atmosphere. Me and my cousin both agreed that this was a good choice.

Yelp
Took my American family here and overall thought it hit the mark. Food was great although my 11 year old thought the burger was a little bready. Meatballs were awesome, steak was great and the char was excellent. We finished with a 4 star creme brûlée. Ambience was good. Felt hip but still good for kids. Wait staff friendly and accommodating. Some debate about whether we should do 4 or 5 stars but it was good enough for 5

Yelp
Riche is very versatile. You can essentially have a nice romantic dinner, grab drinks with friends or just hang out by the bar for some quality solo time. But why would you want to? The ambiance is very fun and everyone was pretty nicely dressed. It can be somewhat of a "scene" but you are in Ostermalm. We were seated in the restaurant area and decided to try out the herring and cheese platter as well as Swedish meatballs and another traditional Swedish dish--Toast Skagen. The meatballs were served with lingonberries and pickled gherkin as well as a mini pot of mashed potato. The meatballs' sauce was actually a bit too salty for my liking, but delicious nonetheless. There's an extensive wine and drinks menu. The service was friendly overall. We had two waiters serve us. We asked the first about the reputation of some other "highly regarded" restaurants and she had never heard of them. The second, however, was very helpful and even suggested some good bakeries (konditoris) for us to check out during our stay. Overall, I would recommend Riche for a fun night out.

Yelp
A classic venue in the heart of Stureplan where you can dine, wine and mingle with businessmen, celebrities and other loungers. Popular place to have a business lunch or wrapping up the week with a dinner and drinks. Dresscode is pretty strict so you shouldnt show up in a hoodie. Crowd tend to be from the 30s and up to the most experienced one. This is not the place you go for dancing, but its a perfect place to grab a drink or two at. It can get pretty packed early on, so i would suggest making a stop here and then continue on. Once you are here and its packed, you will have to use your very best skills to get a drink. So if you are afraid of close encounters, you will have to send a buddy to order or go elsewhere. Whether you just wanna dine-in or go all-in you will have to adjust your strategy for the evening. Go here to get a classy start, and once you are bored, continue on to get more!

Yelp
AMAZING! This was the first dinner we had in Stockholm and it was the best dinner I had while there. The cocktails are stellar, the food is excellent, and the people watching is A+. Pro-tip - have a late dinner and then head to the club / bar inside. They were turning people away when we came for dinner at 10pm - it was reservation or guest list only. The locals were drinking wine/champ and ordering the burger - which looked amazing but you don't fly to Sweden to eat burgers imo. We ordered the Swedish meatballs - wow! As I had only ever tasted a Swedish meatball at Ikea I was blown away. Still dreaming of them. They come with the softest, butteriest potato puree, lingonberries, and pickled cucumber. Divine! We also had the best Skagen toast. We had never had it before and we had no idea what were going to get but my god - I would want to eat that every day if I could. And I tried to while I was in Stockholm - but this was the best we had while there. The only flaw in the night was the pacing of the meal. Our waiter took the time to ask how we wanted things coursed out but EVERYTHING came at once. It was stressful and we had no room on our little table for all the apps and mains. Dreaming of coming back. See you soon, Riche!
google avatar

Lev G.

Yelp
We were in the area and came here for lunch. One needs reservations apparently so we sat at the bar. Had the meatballs and mashed potatoes with lingonberries and cucumbers. One of the best such dishes we have had in Stockholm.

Yelp
Before my trip to Sweden, I researched where to find traditional Swedish meatballs. I wanted to go to Bakfickan but they were closed. Luckily, Riche was open and it was in a really nice part of town. Surrounded by upscale shops, Riche is located on the corner of the street and has a lovely atmosphere. We sat in the side area behind the bar and I ordered the meatballs. It was around $30 USD. It came with whipped potatoes, lingonberries, and pickles. There was also complimentary bread and knäckebröd. The meatballs were heavenly. These were the real deal! The best part was the gravy that they came in! Yum! The waitress recommended eating a bite with everything and she was right! The meatballs taste even better with a dollop of potatoes, lingonberries and a pickle, all in one bite! They really bring out the flavor in one another! I couldn't ask for a better Swedish meatball experience. I highly recommend this restaurant if you want fine cuisine. My friend got the chicken, pork belly and red wine dish and she loved it but I had a bite and I liked the meatballs better. Overall, a nice restaurant but it is pricey as the meatballs were probably the cheapest thing on the menu.

Yelp
For the bar area in the back only: Cool decor. Terrible manhattan, almost all sweet vermouth and no bitters! Great for people watching: a mix of posh, trendy, old and young. Definitely a place where you'd like to look your best. Expect to pay around 280-350 kr for a round of drinks. All in all, not exactly my first choice when in Stockholm.

Yelp
The best combination of food, service and atmosphere... The lovely waitress made our visit most enjoyable, when we came home, I sent her a thank you note! We have the photo she took of us at the table framed and placed in a prominent location at our place...great memories of a trip right before we discovered we were expecting (9 years ago)... We'd gladly go back again...with our little girl who loves to eat....
