SMART, Alec hatter

I have been looking for an open crown hat for a long time so was very pleased when I found the Camp Draft on the Akubra website priced at $300 plus delivery. When I returned to google the hat later rather than the Akubra site opening the Smart Alec Hatters website came up first with the same hat in Sand/Silver came up priced at $180 plus delivery so I immediately purchased it. It arrived on time and in perfect condition. In the box was a card with a message from Ian (I think) congratulating me on my purchase and wishing me luck wearing it as it is “a great open crown hat” so especially to Ian……..thank you soooo much for your lovely message…..you are 💯 % correct, it is a fabulous hat which I absolutely adore !! I mainly bought it to wear with the crown “open” however when I put it on to show my sons they both exclaimed “whoa that’s a tall hat” so I put a single “dent” through the middle with no “pinches” to the sides which they then agreed looked better. I not convinced which way I prefer it so will not “steam” the “dent” in which will allow me to wear it either way. Again, thank you so much for the message that came with the hat and, p.s. I may have to order another one as this will rapidly become my favourite “go to” head wear. Lyndon Morgan-Hobbs

scored an old Akubra Snowy River in an op shop and took it into Michael at Smart Alec Hatters where he cut, steamed, shaped and decorated my hat with care, and a good dose of story telling, into a magnificent new look. Quality old school service, advice, product and pricing. The perfect spot for time well spent. Pure Melbourne!

Great friendly service. Awesome and cool hats! I even bought a hat that was missing the the feather plume and they posted me some. Definitely going back!

Smart Alec Hatters is one of my favourite shops in Melbourne and I like to take visitors here and show it off. Exceptional service, range and style tips. They stock ranges to suit most budgets and have lovely touches to add an individual touch to your purchase. Sporting a larger than average sized head? You will also be catered to and will have multiple options! A unique experience indeed! I took my Scottish based friends to Smart Alec a couple of days ago and they both counted it as one of the best retail (and travel) experiences they've had. Five of us left with personally adjusted and stylish hats - two adorned with beautiful feathers. Thank you to the always amazing Michael and the very lovely Lou.

By far, this is the BEST service I've ever had. I ordered a hat from interstate. I rang to confirm it was in stock. I asked for it to be express posted to me and I got it FROM MELBOURNE TO BRISBANE in little over 24hours! In time for Christmas and a super surprise for the young man who is going to get it. I'm thrilled with the response and service. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!

Went into this shop today and was greeted by the loveliest lady, l wish I'd grabbed her name. She helped me choose a beautiful cap for my husband and was so helpful and friendly. She even suggested a yummy lunch nearby before l headed back to work! I would definitely go back and highly recommend this store. A great variety a good quality products. Thank you! 😊
